Corneal injury-induced fibrosis occurs because of corneal epithelial basement membrane (EBM) injury and defective regeneration. Corneal fibrosis inhibition and transparency restoration depend on reestablished EBM, where the collagen network provides structural stability and heparan sulfate binds corneal epithelium-derived cytokines to regulate homeostasis. Inspired by this, bioactive hydrogels (Hep@Gel) composed of collagen-derived gelatins and highly anionic heparin were constructed for scarless corneal repair.

/galectin-3 plays a pivotal role in many vascular diseases. However, the involvement of /galectin-3 in eyes with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) remains unknown. In the laser-induced CNV model, a whole mount retina stained with Isolectin B4 and collagen type I revealed the vascular bed and CNV-associated subretinal fibrosis on day 7 after laser treatment.

Bacterial infections, especially induced by multidrug-resistant pathogens, have become a significant global health concern. In the infected tissues, biofilms not only serve as a source of nutrients but also act as protective barriers that impede antibiotic penetration. Herein, we developed tea polyphenols epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) Au nanoparticles (E-Au NPs) through direct one-step self-assembly methods by EGCG chelating with Au ions to eradicate antibiotic-resistant bacteria methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and prevent the formation of biofilm under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation.

Purpose: This study aims to develop a diffusion-based workflow to precisely predict postoperative appearance in blepharoptosis patients.
Methods: We developed PtosisDiffusion, a training-free workflow that combines face mesh with ControlNet for accurate post-operative predictions, and evaluated it using 39 preoperative photos from blepharoptosis patients. The performance of PtosisDiffusion was compared against three other diffusion-based methods: Conditional Diffusion, Repaint, and Dragon Diffusion.

To illustrate epigenetic heterogeneity, versatile tools of single-cell ChIP-seq (scChIP-seq) are essential for both convenience and accuracy. We developed MobiChIP, a compatible ChIP-seq library construction method based on current sequencing platforms for single-cell applications. MobiChIP efficiently captures fragments from tagmented nuclei across various species and allows sample mixing from different tissues or species.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, manifests as chronic intestinal inflammation with debilitating symptoms, posing a significant burden on global healthcare. Moreover, current therapies primarily targeting inflammation can lead to immunosuppression-related complications. Human amniotic epithelial stem cells (hAESCs), which exhibit low immunogenicity and ethical acceptability, have gained attention as potential therapeutics.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the chronic microvascular complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which will cause retinal detachment and blindness without ideal therapies. Gypenoside A (GPA) are the main bioactive compound from Gynostemma pentaphyllum, and have various pharmacological effects. However, it suffered from poor bioavailability and potential cardiotoxicity in the clinical application.

Background: Prominent epicanthus could not only diminish the eyes' aesthetics but may be deceptive for its typical appearance of pseudo-esotropia. This study aims to apply a deep learning model to characterize the periocular morphology for preliminary identification.
Methods: This prospective study consecutively included 300 subjects visiting the ophthalmology department in a tertiary referral hospital.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical characteristics and viral Colonization of corneas donated by volunteers with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) before and after corneal transplantation.
Methods: We retrospectively compared the characteristics and clinical outcomes of patients who received corneas from donors with and without a history of COVID-19 after corneal transplantation. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was performed to evaluate the expression of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA on ocular surfaces in corneal preservation solutions as well as the recipients' tears.

Polymeric elastomers are extensively employed to fabricate implantable medical devices. However, implantation of the elastomers can induce a strong immune rejection known as the foreign body response (FBR), diminishing their efficacy. Herein, we present a group of immunocompatible elastomers, termed easy-to-synthesize vinyl-based anti-FBR dense elastomers (EVADE).

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic poses an enormous threat to public health worldwide. Many retrospective studies and case reports to date have shown associations between severe COVID-19 and diseases of multi-organs. However, the research on the causal mechanisms behind this phenomenon is neither extensive nor comprehensive.

Background: To compare pain perception, pupil behaviours, and cytokine levels during first-eye and second-eye femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) and determine which is better regarding a short or long interval for bilateral FLACS.
Methods: Notably, 96 eyes of 48 patients with bilateral cataracts underwent the first surgeries in the left or right eye, according to a random sequence. They were further randomised into 2- and 6-week subgroups based on surgery intervals.

Dry eye disease (DED) is a prevalent ocular disorder characterized by unstable tear film condition with loss of aqueous or mucin, excessive oxidative stress, and inflammation, leading to discomfort and potential damage to the ocular surface. Current DED therapies have shown restricted therapeutic effects such as frequent dosing and temporary relief with potential unwanted side effects, urgently necessitating the development of innovative efficient therapeutic approaches. Herein, we developed rosmarinic acid (RosA) conjugated gelatin nanogels loading diquafosol sodium (DQS), DRGNG, for simultaneous ROS-scavenging and mucin-secreting DED treatment.

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness and low vision worldwide, yet its pathological mechanism is not fully understood. Although macroautophagy/autophagy is recognized as essential for lens homeostasis and has shown potential in alleviating cataracts, its precise mechanism remains unclear. Uncovering the molecular details of autophagy in the lens could provide targeted therapeutic interventions alongside surgery.

Polymeric elastomers are widely utilized in implantable biomedical devices. Nevertheless, the implantation of these elastomers can provoke a robust foreign body response (FBR), leading to the rejection of foreign implants and consequently reducing their effectiveness in vivo. Building effective anti-FBR coatings on those implants remains challenging.

Purpose: To analyse and compare the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of patients with acute angle closure (AAC) who presented before the COVID-19 pandemic, during the COVID-19 management and after their downgrading.
Methods: Consecutive AAC patients were recruited from our hospital and divided into three groups: those treated before the COVID-19 pandemic (Group1), during the COVID-19 management (Group2) and after the management downgrade (Group3). The demographic variables, clinical characteristics, treatment methods and therapeutic outcomes of the groups were compared.
