Minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy (MIPD) has been routinely performed in major centers, and its feasibility and efficacy in tumor treatment have been highly recognized. Malnutrition has been associated with higher rates of morbidity, and increased mortality in surgical patients. The effect of the nutritional status on MIPD outcomes still remains unclear and controversial.

Background: The extra-articular lesions of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are reported to involve multiple organs and systems throughout the body, including the heart, kidneys, liver, and lungs. This study assessed the potential causal relationship between RA and the risk of chronic kidney diseases (CKDs) using the Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.
Method: Independent genetic instruments related to RA and CKD or CKD subtypes at the genome-wide significant level were chosen from the publicly shared summary-level data of genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

This study aimed to explore the performance of CT-based whole lung radiomic in discriminating COPD patients and non-COPD patients.
Methods: This retrospective study was performed on 2785 patients who underwent pulmonary function examination in 5 hospitals and were divided into non-COPD group and COPD group.

Objective: Many studies have found that miR-26a-5p plays an essential role in the progression of pathological cardiac hypertrophy, however, there is still no evidence on whether miR-26a-5p is related to the activation of autophagy and NLRP3 inflammasome. And the mechanism of miR-26a-5p and NLRP3 inflammasome aggravating pathological cardiac hypertrophy remain unclear.
Methods: Cardiomyocytes were treated with 200µM PE to induce cardiac hypertrophy and intervened with 10mM NLRP3 inhibitor INF39.

Toad venom is a traditional Chinese medicine with high medicinal value. The existing quality evaluation standards of toad venom have obvious limitations because of the lack of research on proteins. Thus, it is necessary to screen suitable quality markers and establish appropriate quality evaluation methods for toad venom proteins to guarantee their safety and efficacy in clinical applications.

Purpose: To develop a scoring system for hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer patients who are expected to achieve axillary pathological complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). To confirm the correlation between axillary status and survival rate in HR+ breast cancer after NAC.
Methods: Women from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Breast Cancer Database (SJTU-BCDB) who underwent NAC for cT1-4N1-3M0 primary HR+ breast cancer between 2009 and 2018 were included in the study.

rearrangements have rarely been reported in S100- and CD34-co-expressing soft tissue neoplasms with lipofibromatosis-like neural tumor (LPFNT) pattern or stromal and perivascular hyalinization, mimicking -rearranged spindle cell tumors. Here, we reported fusions involving related partner genes in two adult soft tissue tumors with S100 and CD34 co-expression, and conducted a literature review of mesenchymal tumors harboring or other kinase fusions. Case 1 was a 25-year-old female who underwent excision of a soft tissue mass in the anterior thigh region.

To study the relationship between the onco-immunological and morphologic characteristics of lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) and peripheral blood lymphocyte subtypes and its clinical significance. The pathologic and clinical data of 117 LELC patients who were admitted to the Tumor Hospital of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences from 2006 to 2018 were collected. The histological classification was based on previously reported morphological classification method.

Activation of the RAS pathway promotes progression and metastasis of osteosarcoma. RAS has been studied in many different tumors; however, the prognostic value of RAS-associated genes in OS remains unclear.

Brain functional network changes over time along with the process of brain development, disease, and aging. However, most of the available measurements for evaluation of the difference (or similarity) between the individual brain functional networks are for charactering static networks, which do not work with the dynamic characteristics of the brain networks that typically involve a long-span and large-scale evolution over the time. The current study proposes an index for measuring the similarity of dynamic brain networks, named as dynamic network similarity (DNS).

Pancreatic cancer is a fatal disease with poor prognosis. Gemcitabine has been regarded as the mainstay of chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer; however, it is accompanied with a high rate of chemoresistance. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are characterized by resistance to traditional chemo- and radiotherapies.

Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) is a persistent pollutant that exerts toxicity and induces cardiogenesis in humans and animals. Yet, the effect of PFOS exposure on cardiac toxicity in adult rats has, to our knowledge, not been reported and the mechanism still remains unknown. The present study aimed to investigate the toxicity of PFOS on rat hearts and any associated mechanisms.

Bronchial asthma is a heterogeneous disease with complex pathological mechanisms representing different phenotypes, including severe asthma. The airway epithelium is a major site of complex pathological changes in severe asthma due, in part, to activation of inflammatory and immune mechanisms in response to noxious agents. Current imaging procedures are unable to accurately measure epithelial and airway remodeling.

Background: Establishment of a mouse model is important for investigating the mechanism of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In this study, we observed and compared the evolution of the pathology in two mouse models of COPD induced by cigarette smoke (CS) exposure alone or in combination with lipopolysaccharide (LPS).
Methods: One hundred eight wild-type C57BL/6 mice were equally divided into three groups: the (1) control group, (2) CS-exposed group (CS group), and (3) CS + LPS-exposed group (CS + LPS group).

Normal brain aging is commonly associated with neural activity alteration, β-amyloid (Aβ) deposition, and tau aggregation, driving a progressive cognitive decline in normal elderly individuals. Positron emission tomography (PET) with radiotracers targeting these age-related changes has been increasingly employed to clarify the sequence of their occurrence and the evolution of clinically cognitive deficits. Herein, we reviewed recent literature on PET-based imaging of normal human brain aging in terms of neural activity, Aβ, and tau.
