Recent studies have revealed that calorie restriction is able to modulate immune system and aid in intervention of immune disorders. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an immune disease in the intestine caused by interplay between genetic susceptibility and environmental factors such as diets. Here we analyzed the therapeutic effect of intermittent calorie restriction with a fasting-mimicking diet (FMD) on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced chronic IBD model in mice.

This study aimed to investigate the oncogenic activity of microRNA-10b by targeting CUB and sushi multiple domains protein 1 (CSMD1) in human gastric cancer (GC) and the underlying mechanisms. The expression of CSMD1 in human GC tissues was evaluated by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), immunoblotting, and immunohistochemical analysis. The expressive abundance of microRNA-10b was detected by stem-loop RT-PCR.

This study sought to investigate minichromosome maintenance protein 3 (MCM3) and minichromosome maintenance protein 7 (MCM7) expression in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC) samples, and to evaluate the relationship between clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis. The expressions of MCM3 and MCM7 were evaluated using immunohistochemistry of tissue sections from SACC patients, and statistical analyses were performed to evaluate the associations between MCM expression and clinicopathological variables and to analyze the disease-free survival (DFS) and prognostic factors. The positive expression rates of MCM3 and MCM7 in SACC were 98.

Chidamide is a new subtype-selective histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACi), which has been approved for the treatment of recurrent or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) in China. However, there are few studies about the application of chidamide in PTCL with central nervous system (CNS) involvement. It is essential to investigate the penetration of chidamide in the blood brain barrier (BBB).

Soft-shelled turtle peptide modulates microRNA profile in human gastric cancer AGS cells.

Oncol Lett

March 2018

Zhejiang Cancer Research Institute, Zhejiang Province Cancer Hospital, Zhejiang Cancer Center, Hangzhou, Zhejiang 310022, P.R. China.

Cancer prevention using natural micronutrition on epigenetic mechanisms primarily revolves around plant extracts. However, the role of macronutrition, including animal peptides, on epigenetic modification in cancer has been elusive. In traditional Chinese medicine, the soft-shelled turtle has a long-history of being a functional food that strengthens immunity through unknown mechanisms.

Acetylation accumulates PFKFB3 in cytoplasm to promote glycolysis and protects cells from cisplatin-induced apoptosis.

Nat Commun

February 2018

The Fifth People's Hospital of Shanghai and the Molecular and Cell Biology Research Lab of the Institutes of Biomedical Sciences, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200032, China.

Enhanced glycolysis in cancer cells has been linked to cell protection from DNA damaging signals, although the mechanism is largely unknown. The 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-biphosphatase 3 (PFKFB3) catalyzes the generation of fructose-2,6-bisphosphate, a potent allosteric stimulator of glycolysis. Intriguingly, among the four members of PFKFB family, PFKFB3 is uniquely localized in the nucleus, although the reason remains unclear.

Department of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology, University of Colorado Cancer Center, Anschutz Medical Campus, Aurora, CO, USA.

We have previously identified a panel of autoantibodies (AABs), including p53, GAGE7, PGP9.5, CAGE, MAGEA1, SOX2 and GBU4-5, that was helpful in the early diagnosis of lung cancer. This large-scale, multicenter study was undertaken to validate the clinical value of this 7-AABs panel for early detection of lung cancer in a Chinese population.

Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) exhibits a higher incidence in women. Due to various ages at menarche and menopause, estrogen levels vary, which may account for the differences in the occurrence, development, and prognosis of female patients with PTC. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between various durations in different estrogen levels and PTC and to provide important information to guide clinical management and treatment of this disease.

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have been implicated in tumor progression and prognosis. Techniques detecting CTCs in the peripheral blood of patients with non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) may help to identify individuals likely to benefit from early systemic treatment. However, the detection of CTCs with a single marker is challenging, owing to low specificity and sensitivity and due to the heterogeneity and rareness of CTCs.

RRM1 *151A>T, RRM1 -756T>C, and RRM1 -585T>Gis associated with increased susceptibility of lung cancer in Chinese patients.

Cancer Med

August 2016

Zhejiang Cancer Research Institute, Zhejiang Province Cancer Hospital, Zhejiang Cancer Center, No.38 Guangji Rd., Banshanqiao District, Hangzhou, 310022, China.

Ribonucleotide reductase M1 (RRM1) is a crucial gene in DNA repair. Recent studies have shown that RRM1 expression can be a powerful predictor of survival or chemotherapy sensitivity in patients presenting with carcinomas who are treated with adjuvant gemcitabine-based chemotherapy including lung cancer. However, the relationship between the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of RRM1 and the susceptibility of lung cancer to chemotherapy has not been well addressed.

Background: Poorly Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma (PDTC), especially advanced PDTC, is an aggressive disease and displays a much poorer prognosis compared with well differentiated thyroid carcinoma. Surgery is the recommended treatment in the early stage of PDTC, however, no effective treatment modalities are currently available for advanced PDTCMethods: Two advanced PDTC patients with no radioiodine uptake adopted a cytotoxic chemotherapy with liposomal doxorubicin (35 mg/m(2), day 1) plus cisplatin (75 mg/m(2), day1-3) every 3 weeks. Computer tomography (CT) was performed after 6 cycles (case 1) or 5 cycles (case 2) of chemotherapy

Results: Our patients achieved remarkable response with one a Complete Remission (CR) and the other a very good Partial Remission (PR)Conclusion: Our findings indicate that liposomal doxorubicin-based chemotherapy regimens might produce response in PDTC patients, and improve their overall survival and quality of life.
