The impact of head teacher praise and criticism on adolescent non-cognitive skills: Evidence from China.

Introduction: Although the importance of teacher feedback has been confirmed by a great number of studies, the association of head teacher praise and criticism with adolescents' non-cognitive skills still needs more deeper and more extensive research. Therefore, how to improve the non-cognitive skills of adolescents, especially those with disadvantaged family and economic backgrounds, has become a key concern in the field of educational practice.

Methods: Based on CEPS data, this paper used panel regression and PSM-DID methods to analyze the impact of head teacher feedback on an adolescent's non-cognitive skills measured by the big-five personality scale.

Fast Sleep Stage Classification Using Cascaded Support Vector Machines with Single-Channel EEG Signals.

Long-term sleep stage monitoring is very important for the diagnosis and treatment of insomnia. With the development of wearable electroencephalogram (EEG) devices, we developed a fast and accurate sleep stage classification method in this study with single-channel EEG signals for practical applications. The original sleep recordings were collected from the Sleep-EDF database.

The Effects of the Creator's Situation on Creativity Evaluation: The Rater's Cognitive Empathy and Affective Empathy Matter in Rating Creative Works.

Successful intelligence theory suggests that creativity is necessary for personal achievement outside of intelligence. Unlike intelligence, creativity can develop in a supportive environment. People should consider the situation of disadvantaged groups, which are characterized by low personal achievement and a bad growth environment in creativity evaluation from a caring perspective.

Understanding the relationships between teacher mindfulness, work engagement, and classroom emotions.

This cross-sectional study investigated the relationships between teacher mindfulness, work engagement, and classroom emotions composed of positive and negative emotions. A sample of 498 Chinese primary, secondary, and high school teachers completed an anonymous online questionnaire. Descriptive analysis, bivariate correlation, and a series of regression equations were conducted to analyze the data.

Mandarin Chinese -in-situ argument-adjunct asymmetry in island sensitivity: Evidence from a formal judgment study.

COVID-19: The effects of perceived organizational justice, job engagement, and perceived job alternatives on turnover intention among frontline nurses.

Nurses' turnover intention has become a concern for medical institutions because nurses are more needed than ever under the prevalence of COVID-19. This research sought to investigate the effects of the four dimensions of organizational justice on COVID-19 frontline nurses' turnover intention through the mediating role of job engagement. We also tested the extent to which perceived job alternatives could moderate the relationship between job engagement and turnover intention.

Effects of perceived teacher support on motivation and engagement amongst Chinese college students: Need satisfaction as the mediator.

College students' motivation and engagement are regarded as essential factors to promote their academic development and wellbeing. However, motivation and engagement among college students appear to decline after they enter the university. Guided by the framework of self-determination theory, this study attempted to explore a motivational model of how three dimensions of perceived teacher support (autonomy, structure, and involvement) related to student motivation and class engagement, using need satisfaction as a mediator.

Associations of hedonic and eudaimonic orientations with subjective experience and objective functioning in academic settings: The mediating roles of academic behavioral engagement and procrastination.

The question of how the pursuit of happiness affects an individual's actual well-being has received much scholarly attention in recent years. However, few studies have investigated the associations of happiness orientation with people's subjective experience and objective functioning simultaneously. The current research examines the possibility that hedonic and eudaimonic orientations have different relationships with college students' affective well-being and academic achievement, while taking into consideration the behavioral mechanism that underlies the process.

Engagement Mediates the Relationship Between Emotion and Achievement of Chinese EFL Learners.

Since the coming of Positive Psychology in the field of second language acquisition (SLA), the significance of emotion, especially positive emotion, has been well recognized by researchers. Educational research has indicated that both emotion and engagement play fundamental roles in learning process and psychological wellbeing, but research on their relationship is scant in SLA. The present study contributed to the development of Positive Psychology in SLA by investigating the relationships between achievement emotions, behavioral engagement, and self-reported English achievements.

Deep Learning Models for Fast Retrieval and Extraction of French Speech Vocabulary Applications.

Due to the large French vocabulary, how quickly retrieve and accurately identify the required vocabulary is still a big challenge in French learning. In view of the above problems, we introduce a deep learning algorithm in this study to upgrade and optimize the retrieval system of French words and optimize the acquisition speed of speech words data and the recognition accuracy of speech words, so as to meet the needs of users for word retrieval. The results show that the two training methods of SGD synchronous update network and alternate update network parameters for fast retrieval and extraction of French speech vocabulary reduce from a maximum of 11.

Does a smart business environment promote corporate investment? a case study of Hangzhou.

As a result of business environment reforms in China's Hangzou, the cost of business has reduced, the confidence of Hangzhou enterprises has survived the COVID-19 outbreak, and foreign investment continues to increase. Nevertheless, Hangzhou's business environment has shortcomings, such as insufficient technology, talent, and intelligent infrastructure. Two unresolved questions persist: (i) Has the smart business environment stimulated corporate investment by reducing system costs and boosting corporate confidence? (ii) How do the commercial climate's shortcomings impact the relationship between the intelligent business environment and business costs/confidence? We examined the impact of a local smart business environment on the corporate investment scale in Hangzhou using factor analysis, cluster analysis, linear regression, and path analyses of data from 297 firm managers.

The Contribution of Radical Knowledge and Character Recognition to L2 Chinese Reading Comprehension.

Although there have been extensive theoretical discussions on the various component skills needed in comprehending texts in L2 English and L1 Chinese, empirical investigations on the component skills of L2 Chinese are scarce. This study attempts to fill in this gap by investigating the direct and indirect contributions of two lower-level latent component skills, radical knowledge and character recognition, to L2 Chinese passage-level reading comprehension. Radical knowledge was measured by a Receptive Semantic Radical Knowledge Test and a Semantic Radical Meaning Matching Test.

Can vertical environmental regulation induce enterprise green innovation? A new perspective from automatic air quality monitoring station in China.

Based on panel data of listed companies in China from 2006 to 2020, this study takes the establishment of automatic air quality monitoring stations as a quasi-natural experiment and uses the staggered difference-in-differences method to explore whether the establishment of monitoring stations promotes green innovation of listed companies. Influential Nodes Identification in the Air Pollution Spatial Correlation Weighted Networks and Collaborative Governance: Taking China's Three Urban Agglomerations as Examples.

Nowadays, driven by green and low-carbon development, accelerating the innovation of joint prevention and control system of air pollution and collaborating to reduce greenhouse gases has become the focus of China's air pollution prevention and control during the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan" period (2021-2025). In this paper, the air quality index (AQI) data of 48 cities in three major urban agglomerations of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta, were selected as samples. Firstly, the air pollution spatial correlation weighted networks of three urban agglomerations are constructed and the overall characteristics of the networks are analyzed.

When Do Hedonic and Eudaimonic Orientations Lead to Happiness? Moderating Effects of Orientation Priority.

The effects of hedonic and eudaimonic orientations on individual well-being have received much scholarly attention. However, the empirical findings from previous research are not consistent, raising the question of when the pursuit of hedonia and eudaimonia lead to actual improvements in individual well-being. We argue that the relationship between orientations to happiness and well-being outcomes are moderated by orientation priorities, which reflect the relative level of importance individuals place on eudaimonic motives compared to hedonic motives.

Perceiving faces through reconnection-colored glasses after social exclusion: Evidence from N100.

Social exclusion motivates individuals to selectively reconnect with others, in which face categorization plays an important role. However, it remains unknown how reconnection possibility interacts with perception at the very early stage of face categorization. To address this issue, after social exclusion or social inclusion priming, participants were instructed to select one person from two gender-matched strangers as a future "coworker" (with high reconnection possibility; the left one is a future "stranger," with low reconnection possibility) for another ostensible task, and then complete an orientation judgment task of self-face, coworker face and stranger face, with event-related brain potential (ERP) recordings.

In this paper, with eclipse stage in consideration, we propose an HIV-1 infection model with a general incidence rate and CTL immune response. We first study the existence and local stability of equilibria, which is characterized by the basic infection reproduction number and the basic immunity reproduction number . The local stability analysis indicates the occurrence of transcritical bifurcations of equilibria.

In tourism host communities, daily interactions among different resident groups reflect tourism's effects which are directly related to tourists' experiences and community harmony. In this exploratory article, grounded theory was applied to analyze daily interactions between locals and migrants in Zhouzhuang, the first ancient tourism town in China, based on in-depth interviews.
