Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) stands as the predominant type of primary liver cancer, frequently accompanied by portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT). PVTT is a harbinger of a grim prognosis, with current treatment modalities falling short of expectations. Delving deeper into the pathophysiology of PVTT, researchers have come to recognize that PVTT and HCC may originate from different clones.

Cuproptosis, caused by an intracellular overload of copper (Cu) ions and overexpression of ferredoxin 1 (FDX1), is identified for its regulatory role in the skin wound healing process. This study verifies the presence of cuproptosis in skin wound beds and reactive oxygen species-induced cells model. To address the two pathways leading to cell cuproptosis, a nanodrug-engineered exosomes is proposed.

Background: Heart failure combined with hypertension is a major contributor for elderly patients (≥ 65 years) to in-hospital mortality. However, there are very few models to predict in-hospital mortality in such elderly patients. We aimed to develop and test an individualized machine learning model to assess risk factors and predict in-hospital mortality in in these patients.

Intracardiac bronchogenic cysts (IBCs) are very rare. To date, only a few cases of IBC have been reported in the literature. We report a case of a bronchogenic cyst that arose from the interatrial septum in a 42-year-old man who presented with symptoms of palpitation.

Lipid metabolism reprogram plays key roles in breast cancer tumorigenesis and immune escape. The underlying mechanism and potential regulator were barely investigated. We thus established an in vivo tumorigenesis model, mice-bearing breast cancer cells were treated with an ordinary diet and high-fat diet, species were collected and subjected to circRNA sequence to scan the potential circRNAs regulating the lipid metabolism.

Vascularization is a major challenge in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Mechanical factors have been demonstrated to play a fundamental role in vasculogenesis and angiogenesis and can affect the architecture of the generated vascular network. Through the regulation of mechanical factors in engineered tissues, various mechanical strategies can be used to optimize the preformed vascular network and promote its rapid integration with host vessels.

Background: Elderly patients are more likely to suffer from severe ischemic stroke (IS) and have worse outcomes, including death and disability. We aimed to develop and validate predictive models using novel machine learning algorithms for the 3-month mortality in elderly patients with IS admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study.

Persistent excessive inflammation caused by neutrophil and macrophage dysfunction in the wound bed leads to refractory response during wound healing. However, previous studies using cytokines or drugs often suffer from short half-lives and limited targeting, resulting in unsatisfactory therapeutic effects. Herein, the enucleated mesenchymal stem cell is engineered by aptamer bioorthogonal chemistry to modify the cell membrane and mRNA loading in the cell cytoplasm as a novel delivery vector (Cargocyte) with accurate targeting and sustained cytokine secretion.

Objective: This study aims to construct an epithelial cell-related prognostic risk model for breast cancer (BRCA) and explore its significance.
Methods: GSE42568, GSE10780, GSE245601, and TCGA-BRCA datasets were sourced from public databases. Epithelial cell-related differentially expressed genes were identified using single-cell data analysis.

Bladder cancer (BCa) is a highly prevalent type of cancer worldwide, and it is responsible for numerous deaths and cases of disease. Due to the diverse nature of this disease, it is necessary to conduct significant research that delves deeper into the molecular aspects, to potentially discover novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Lately, there has been a significant increase in the focus on non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), including microRNAs (miRNAs), long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and circular RNAs (circRNAs), due to their growing recognition for their involvement in the progression and manifestation of BCa.

Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) ranks among the most prevalent congenital heart defects and poses a life-threatening risk if left undiagnosed. Herein, we utilized fetal heart quantification (HQ) technology to improve the prenatal prediction of CoA. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 64 fetal cases with suspected aortic arch constriction, identified through prenatal ultrasound findings between November 2020 and March 2022 at the Department of Ultrasound, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University.

In the past few decades, great progress has been made in prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease (CHD). Fetal echocardiography is recognized as the main prenatal screening and diagnostic tool that can accurately detect approximately 85 % of fetal cardiac abnormalities. Evaluation of the fetal heart remains a major challenge in prenatal ultrasound screening and diagnosis due to fetal position, involuntary movement, small and complex fetal cardiac anatomy, maternal abdominal wall conditions, and lack of expertise in fetal echocardiography by some physicians engaged in obstetric ultrasound.

Background: Neoadjuvant short-course radiotherapy (SCRT) followed by CAPOX and camrelizumab (a programmed cell death protein 1 monoclonal antibody) has shown potential clinical activity for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) in a phase II trial. This study aimed to further confirm the efficacy and safety of SCRT followed by CAPOX and camrelizumab compared to long-course chemoradiotherapy (LCRT) followed by CAPOX alone as neoadjuvant treatment for LARC.
Patients And Methods: In this randomized, phase III trial, patients with T3-4/N+ rectal adenocarcinoma were randomly assigned (1 : 1) to receive SCRT or long-course chemoradiotherapy (LCRT), followed by two cycles of camrelizumab and CAPOX or CAPOX alone, respectively.

While studies have explored the feasibility of switching between various thrombopoietin receptor agonists in treating immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), data on the switching from eltrombopag to hetrombopag remains scarce. This post-hoc analysis of a phase III hetrombopag trial aimed to assess the outcomes of ITP patients who switched from eltrombopag to hetrombopag. In the original phase III trial, patients initially randomized to the placebo group were switched to eltrombopag.

Here we report an ultrafast quadruplex RT-qPCR assay with robust diagnostic ability to detect and distinguish pan-SARS-CoVs and influenza A/B viruses within 35 min. This quadruplex RT-qPCR assay comprised of one novel RNA-based internal control targeting human β2-microglobulin (B2M) for process accuracy and three newly-designed primers-probe sets targeting the envelope protein (E) of pan-SARS-CoV, matrix protein (MP) of influenza A virus and non-structural (NS) region of influenza B virus. This quadruplex assay exhibited a sensitivity comparable to its singleplex counterparts and a slightly higher to that of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-recommended SARS-CoV-2 and influenza A/B assays.

Chikungunya virus, a mosquito-borne virus that causes epidemics, is often misdiagnosed due to symptom similarities with other arboviruses. Here, a portable and integrated nucleic acid-based diagnostic device, which combines reverse transcription-loop-mediated isothermal amplification and lateral-flow detection, was developed. The device is simple to use, precise, equipment-free, and highly sensitive, enabling rapid chikungunya virus identification.
