Background: To forecast the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) incidence and mortality of post-neonatal population in East Asia including North Korea, South Korea, Mongolia, Japan and China Mainland and Taiwan province.

Methods: The data on the incidence and mortality of HIV in post-neonatal population from East Asia were obtained from the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD). The morbidity and mortality of post-neonatal HIV population from GBD 2000 to GBD 2013 were applied as the training set and the morbidity and mortality from GBD 2014 to GBD 2019 were used as the testing set.

This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of ulinastatin in hepatic ischemia-reperfusion progress, involving its association with the role of autophagy during hypoxia-induced hypoxia-reoxygenation injury in vitro. The model of hepatic hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) injury in Chang liver cells was established. After treatment with ulinastatin at the doses of 10, 100, and 1000 U/mL in H/R liver cells, the cell proliferation was significantly increased, morphological damage was reduced, and the cell apoptosis rate was decreased.

The cerebellum is sensitive to ethanol (EtOH) consumption. Chronic EtOH consumption impairs motor learning by modulating the cerebellar circuitry synaptic transmission and long-term plasticity. Under conditions, acute EtOH inhibits both parallel fiber (PF) and climbing fiber (CF) long-term depression (LTD).

This multicenter retrospective study included 184 children with malignant and non-malignant diseases who underwent UCBT between January 1998 and August 2012. The malignant disease group included 101 children with ALL, AML, CML, JMML, and MDS, and the non-malignant disease group included 83 children with PID, β-thalassemia, IMD BMF, and HLH. The median duration to neutrophil and platelet engraftment was 16 and 35 days in the malignant disease group vs 15 and 38 days in the non-malignant disease group.

The success of treating a wide variety of pediatric diseases with HSCT, hematologic malignancies in particular, has resulted in an increased number of long-term survivors. This study is the first large-scale, multicentre report that describes the evolution of pediatric HSCTs in China during the period of 1998-2012. Of all 1052 patients, 266 cases were treated with autologous HSCs and 786 used allogeneic HSCs.

Background: Curcumin, a polyphenolic compound derived from rhizomes of Curcuma spp., has been shown to possess potent anti-fibrotic properties. Here, we investigate the role of curcumin in modulating the profibrotic action of TGF-beta in human proximal tubule cells (HK-2) and its underlying mechanisms.
