Leukocytes play an important role in the progression of disease and leukocyte-derived proteins are associated with the pathogenesis of the disease. Leukocyte activation causes production of inflammatory mediators, over-expression of cell surface adhesion molecules, and an increase in migration and infiltration, phagocytosis, and degranulation, as well as receptor phosphorylation and signal transduction. An increasing number of studies on the application of leukocyte proteomics have appeared in mapping protein profiles of inflammatory cells, contributing to the understanding of potential mechanisms involved in leukocyte function.

A study of the lengthening and contractility of the surgical margins in digestive tract cancer.

Am J Surg

March 2004

Department of Surgical Oncology, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Medical College, Zhe Jiang University, Hang Zhou 310016, China.

Background: The lengthening and the contractility of the digestive tract were studied.

Methods: The stretched length of specimens was measured under pull weights of 500 g and 1000 g; the contracted length was measured in natural status and in 10% formalin fixation in vitro. The lengthening or contractility rate was calculated as the length difference divided by the natural length in vivo.

[Studies on the non-fatigue specificity of the fatigue-related sEMG signal parameters].

Space Med Med Eng (Beijing)

February 2004

Institute of Sports Science & Technology, Xixi Campus, Zhe-jiang University, Hangzhou, China.

Objective: To investigate the non-fatigue specificity of the changes of the fatigue-related parameters of sEMG signal during muscle static contractions.

Method: The sEMG signals of biceps brachii (BB) and triceps brachii (TB) were recorded in 10 subjects during 1 min sustained right elbow isometric flexion. Changes of a series of fatigue-related indices such as MPF, MF, ZCR, AEMG and Lempel-ziv complexity were then analyzed.

Objective: Inquire into factors influencing recurrence following resection of carcinoma of the head of pancreas to raise survival rate of pancreatic cancer.

Methods: We performed a retrospective review of 56 pancreatic resections with carcinoma of the head of pancreas operated from January 1995 to December 1998. 35 patients tolerated the Whipple operadure in comparison with 21 patients received the extended radical operation contemporaneously.

Comparison of calcium alginate film with collagen membrane for guided bone regeneration in mandibular defects in rabbits.

J Oral Maxillofac Surg

December 2002

Received from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Medical College, Zhe Jiang University, Hang Zhou, China.

Purpose: We sought to compare calcium alginate film (CAF) with collagen membrane (CM) regarding their effects on guided bone regeneration.

Materials And Methods: Circular bone defects with 5-mm diameter were created in the region anterior to both mandibular angles in 34 rabbits. The defects on one side were covered with a CAF, and the contralateral side with CM.

Aim: Our previous studies showed increased sensitivity to 5-FU in colon cancer cell lines with microsatellite instability, and considered that mutations of TGFbeta-R II, IGF IIR, RIZ gene might enhance the potentials of cell growth and proliferation, which increased the sensitivity to 5-FU. Here we compared the distribution of cell cycle and P53 status between two human colon cancer cell lines with different sensitivity to 5-FU. Because mechanistic differences exist between 5-FU and CDDP, we also analyzed the efficacy of CDDP and combination therapy on two human colon cancer cell lines.

[Treatment of the ocular burn with hormone].

Zhonghua Shao Shang Za Zhi

December 2001

Department of Burns, Second Affiliated Hospital, Medical School, Zhe Jiang University, Hangzhou 310009, Zhe Jiang Province, P. R. China.

Objective: To explore new ways of the management of ocular burn with the use of hormones (human growth hormone and corticosteroid).

Methods: Twenty-one patients (30 eyes) with ocular burn were enrolled in the study. Nine cases (12 eyes) were treated with routine methods, while in 12 cases (18 eyes) corticosteroid and recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) were used.
