Sample pretreatment technology is crucial for drug analysis and detection, because the effect of sample pretreatment directly determinates the final analysis results. In recent years, with the continuous innovation of microextraction and other technologies like material preparation technologies and assistant technologies for extraction, the sample pretreatment techniques in the process of drug analysis have become more and more mature and diverse. This article takes amphetamine (AM) or methamphetamine as an example to review the recent development of pretreatment methods for AM-containing biological samples from the perspectives of extraction techniques, extraction media and auxiliary technologies.

The widespread use of microplastics (MPs) has led to an increase in their discharge to wastewater treatment plants. However, the knowledge of impact of MPs on macro-performance and micro-ecology in simultaneous nitrification, denitrification, and phosphorus removal (SNDPR) systems is limited, hampering the understanding of potential risks posed by MPs. This study firstly comprehensively investigated the performance, species interactions, and community assembly under polystyrene (PS) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) exposure in SNDPR systems.

Background: To forecast the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) incidence and mortality of post-neonatal population in East Asia including North Korea, South Korea, Mongolia, Japan and China Mainland and Taiwan province.
Methods: The data on the incidence and mortality of HIV in post-neonatal population from East Asia were obtained from the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD). The morbidity and mortality of post-neonatal HIV population from GBD 2000 to GBD 2013 were applied as the training set and the morbidity and mortality from GBD 2014 to GBD 2019 were used as the testing set.

Introduction: Lipomas are rarely found in primary mesenchymal tumors of the hypopharynx and larynx. When they do appear, they often macroscopically resemble a retention cyst or laryngeal nodule. The laryngeal spindle cell lipoma, a variant, is extremely rare.

This retrospective study evaluated operative outcomes when using a supraclavicular artery island flap (SAIF) combined with a sternohyoid muscle flap (SHMF) to reconstruct defects after hypopharyngeal carcinoma resection. Reconstructive surgery for hypopharyngeal and laryngeal defects was performed with the SAIF + SHME combination in 6 patients during 2016 to 2018. Within 14 to 16 days after the surgery, all 6 patients could ingest food and block the tube (avoiding aspiration), with no pharyngeal fistulas.

This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of ulinastatin in hepatic ischemia-reperfusion progress, involving its association with the role of autophagy during hypoxia-induced hypoxia-reoxygenation injury in vitro. The model of hepatic hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) injury in Chang liver cells was established. After treatment with ulinastatin at the doses of 10, 100, and 1000 U/mL in H/R liver cells, the cell proliferation was significantly increased, morphological damage was reduced, and the cell apoptosis rate was decreased.

The cerebellum is sensitive to ethanol (EtOH) consumption. Chronic EtOH consumption impairs motor learning by modulating the cerebellar circuitry synaptic transmission and long-term plasticity. Under conditions, acute EtOH inhibits both parallel fiber (PF) and climbing fiber (CF) long-term depression (LTD).

This multicenter retrospective study included 184 children with malignant and non-malignant diseases who underwent UCBT between January 1998 and August 2012. The malignant disease group included 101 children with ALL, AML, CML, JMML, and MDS, and the non-malignant disease group included 83 children with PID, β-thalassemia, IMD BMF, and HLH. The median duration to neutrophil and platelet engraftment was 16 and 35 days in the malignant disease group vs 15 and 38 days in the non-malignant disease group.

By increasing the number of floating electrodes or enlarging the width of single floating electrode, this work provides effective ways to strongly improve the particle trapping performance of induced charge electroosmosis (ICEO). Particle trapping with double or triple separate narrow floating electrodes increases the effective actuating range of ICEO flow and therefore enhance the optimum trapping ability to be 1.63 or 2.

Multiple primary cancers involved in the larynx of differentiating synchronous multiple primary cancers from metastasis can often be very difficult, especially when they have the same histology. However, it is very important because the therapeutic approach is completely different. Clinical situations like this appear to be increasing as a result of the recent popular use of [18F] fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography.

Program death receptor-1 (PD-1) is upregulated in many tumors and in tumor microenvironment, and PD-1 blockade has led to remarkable immune-based anti-tumor responses in across many tumor types. Pembrolizumab, an anti-programmed death 1 checkpoint inhibitor, resulted in a high rate of immune response in 41 patients with previously treated mismatch repair (MMR)-deficient tumor including colorectal cancer but not in MMR-stable tumor with expectant toxicities. Both immune-based progression-free and overall survival are quite promising and correlate with high mutation loads in the tumor.

Delusions of schizophrenia have been found to be associated with alterations of some brain regions in structure and task-induced activation. However, the relationship between spontaneously occurring symptoms and spontaneous brain activity remains unclear. In the current study, 14 schizophrenic patients with delusions and 14 healthy controls underwent a resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS-fMRI) scan.

We investigate whether the expression of the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) in human dental follicle cells (HDFCs) regulated by colony stimulating factor 1 (CSF-1), parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) and bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) contributes to osteoclastogenesis. Adolescent human impacted third mandibular molars were used to separate HDFCs. These cells were incubated with PTHrP (10 ng/ml), CSF-1 (25 ng/ml), or BMP-2 (100 ng/ml) for 0.

Purpose: To evaluate the accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for restaging locally advanced nonmucinous rectal cancer after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT).
Methods: A total of 94 consecutive patients with histologically proven locally advanced middle or low located nonmucinous rectal adenocarcinoma, who were treated with preoperative CRT, followed by radical surgery 6-8 weeks later, were analyzed in this retrospective study. Preoperative MR images were reinterpreted by one observer and the results were compared with the histologic findings.
