A novel solid substrate-room temperature phosphorimetry (SS-RTP) was developed for determination of bumetanide (BMTN). It was validated by determining selectivity, linearity, accuracy, precision, and signal to noise ratio (S/N) for analysis. And all the experiments presented in this work were based on that BMTN inhibited the formation of [Fe-morin](3+) ([FeR](3+)) complex by the reaction between Fe(3+) and R, which led to severe quenching of room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) signal.

8-Quinolineboronic acid phosphorescent molecular switch (8-QBA-PMS) in the "off" state emitted weak room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) of 8-QBA on the acetylcellulose membrane (ACM) with the perturbation of Pb(2+). When 8-QBA-PMS was used to label concanavalin agglutinin (Con A) to form 8-QBA-PMS-Con A based on the reaction between -OH of 8-QBA-PMS and -COOH of Con A, 8-QBA-PMS turned "on" automatically due to its structure change, and RTP of the system increased 2.7 times.

A new phosphorescent labelling reagent consisting of fullerol, fluorescein isothiocyanate and N,N-dimethylaniline (F-ol-(FITC)(n)-DMA) was developed. The mode of action is based on the reactivity of the active -OH group in F-ol with the -COOH group of FITC to form an F-ol-(FITC)(n)-DMA complex containing several FITC molecules. F-ol-(FITC)(n)-DMA increased the number of luminescent molecules in the biological target of WGA-AP-WGA-F-ol-(FITC)(n)-DMA (WGA and AP are wheat germ agglutinin and alkaline phosphatase, respectively) which improved the sensitivity using solid substrate room temperature phosphorimetry (SSRTP) detection.

Clenbuterol hydrochloride (CLB) could catalyze NaIO(4) oxidation of eosine Y (R), which caused the room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) signal of R to quench sharply. The DeltaI(P) (= I(P2)-I(P1), I(P2) was RTP intensities of reagent blank and I(P1) was RTP intensities of test solution) of the system was directly proportional to the content of CLB. According to that academic thought, a new solid substrate-room temperature phosphorimetry (SS-RTP) for the determination of trace CLB has been established.

Luminescent particles of lead carboxymethyl cellulose (Pb(CMC)(2)), which contains salicyl fluorones (THBF), Pb(CMC)(2)-THBF, were synthesized by sol-gel method. Pb(CMC)(2)-THBF can emit intense and stable solid substrate room temperature phosphorescence (SS-RTP) on filter paper. EDTA can chelate the Pb(2+) in Pb(CMC)(2)-THBF, causing it decompose into aqueous soluble components PbY(2-), CMC(-) and THBF, and these components can react with Hg(2+) to form (CMC)(2)Hg-THBF, causing decrease of phosphorescence intensity.

A new solid substrate-room temperature phosphorimetry method for the determination of trace mercury has been established. It bases on the fact that in acetic acid medium, Hg(2+) ion can catalyze the substitute reaction of CN(-) ligand in [Fe(CN)(6)](4-) by 2,2'-bipyridyl (bipy), and the resultant [Fe(bipy)(3)](2+) cation can react with FinBr(4)(-) anion of tetrabromofluorescein (HFinBr(4)) to form ion association complex [Fe(bipy)(3)](2+)[(FinBr(4))(2)](2-) which can emit phosphorescent signal on filter paper substrate. Under the optimum condition, the linear dynamic range of this method is 1.

A new phosphorescent labeling reagent named self-ordered ring (ESOR) of eosin Y (E) was developed. And the application of the determination of bioactive matter by affinity adsorption solid substrate-room temperature phosphorimetry (AA-SS-RTP) based on ESOR labeling lectin was studied. Results showed that pink and homogeneous ESOR could be formed by E on polyamide membrane (PAM) in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and ammonia water.

A new flow injection chemiluminescences method for the determination of procaterol hydrochloride has been developed. It is based on the chemiluminescence reaction of procaterol hydrochloride with Ce (IV)-rhodamine B in sulphuric-chlorhydric acid medium and the experimental fact of the enhancement of chemiluminescence by surfactant CTMAB. The concentration of the analyte shows a good linear relationship with the produced luminescence intensity in the range of 2.

Development of a benzene vapour sensor utilizing chemiluminescence on Y2O3.

Luminescence

July 2008

Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science, Zhangzhou Normal College, Zhangzhou 363000, People's Republic of China.

Chemiluminescence (CL) was observed when benzene vapour passed through the surface of Y(2)O(3), TiO(2), Y(2)O(3)-V(2)O(5), TiO(2)-Y(2)O(3), Y(2)O(3)-Cr(2)O(3), Y(2)O(3)-Al(2)O(3) and TiO(2)-Al(2)O(3), with air as the carrier gas. The strongest CL intensity was found with Y(2)O(3) as the catalyst. A novel benzene sensor based on this kind of CL was developed.

A new method for the determination of trace formaldehyde by solid substrate-room temperature phosphorescence quenching method has been proposed. It is based on the facts that rose bengal (R) can emit intense and stable room temperature phosphorescence on the solid substrate of filter paper (SS-RTP). Potassium bromate (KBrO(3)) can oxidize R, which causes the quenching of RTP.

A new method for the determination of trace selenium based on solid substrate-room temperature phosphorimetry (SS-RTP) has been established. This method was based on the fact that in HCl-KCl buffer solution, potassium chlorate could oxidize phenyl hydrazine to form chloridize diazo-ion after being heated at 100 degrees C for 20 min, and then the diazo-ion reacted with 1,2-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid to form red azo-compound which could emit strong room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) signal on filter paper. Selenium could catalyze potassium chlorate oxidizing the reaction between phenyl hydrazine and 1,2-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid, which caused the sharp enhancement of SS-RTP.
