Background: The predictive importance of IKZF1 in pediatric B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL) has shown variability across different studies. Thus, the optimal treatment approach for children with IKZF1 BCP-ALL remains contentious, with the ongoing debate surrounding the use of IKZF1-based high-risk stratification versus a minimal residual disease (MRD)-guided protocol.

Methods: IKZF1 status was reliably determined in 804 patients using multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) data obtained from four hospitals in Fujian, a province of China.

Objective: To investigate the effects of selinexor, a inhibitor of nuclear export protein 1 (XPO1) on the proliferation inhibition and apoptosis of Kasumi-1 cells in acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Methods: MTS method was used to detect the inhibitory effect of different concentrations of selinexor on the proliferation of Kasumi-1 cells at different time points. The apoptosis rate and cell cycle changes after treatment with different concentration of selinexor were detected by flow cytometry.

Article Synopsis
  • - The PROpel study indicates that combining abiraterone and olaparib shows benefits in radiological progression-free survival for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), but it's questioned as a first-line treatment for those without genetic testing or BRCA mutations.
  • - A retrospective study suggests that low-dose abiraterone plus olaparib may still help some mCRPC patients without BRCA mutations by improving prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels and symptoms, with a median PSA progression-free survival of 8 months.
  • - While 72% of patients experienced adverse events, including anemia and fatigue, the combination therapy demonstrated a potential for manageable side effects and efficacy in selected cases lacking BRCA mutations

Endovascular vs Medical Management of Acute Basilar Artery Occlusion: A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Clinical Trial.

JAMA Neurol

October 2024

Department of Neurology, The First Affiliated Hospital of USTC, Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China.

Importance: In several randomized clinical trials, endovascular thrombectomy led to better functional outcomes than conventional treatment at 90 days poststroke in patients with acute basilar artery occlusion. However, the long-term clinical outcomes of these patients have not been well delineated.

Objective: To evaluate 1-year clinical outcomes in patients with acute basilar artery occlusion following endovascular thrombectomy vs control.

Bone age assessment by multi-granularity and multi-attention feature encoding.

Quant Imaging Med Surg

August 2024

State Key Laboratory of Molecular Vaccinology and Molecular Diagnostics, School of Public Health, Xiamen University, Xiamen, China.

Background: Bone age assessment (BAA) is crucial for the diagnosis of growth disorders and the optimization of treatments. However, the random error caused by different observers' experiences and the low consistency of repeated assessments harms the quality of such assessments. Thus, automated assessment methods are needed.

Aim: To build a ferroptosis-related prognostic model for patients with colon adenocarcinoma (COAD).

Methods: COAD expression profiles from The Cancer Genome Atlas were used as the training set and GSE39582 from Gene Expression Omnibus as the validation set. Differentially expressed ferroptosis-related genes between patients with COAD and normal controls were screened, followed by tumor subtype exploration based on ferroptosis-related gene expression levels.

Failure patterns and individualized treatment plans of reirradiation for inoperable locally recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Sci Rep

August 2024

Department of Radiation Oncology, Clinical Oncology School of Fujian Medical University, Fujian Cancer Hospital, No. 420 Fuma Road, Fuzhou, 350014, Fujian, China.

Re-irradiation with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) remains the primary treatment modality for inoperable locally recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). However, the rate of radiation-related late adverse effects is often substantially high. Therefore, we aimed to explore failure patterns and individualized treatment plans of re-irradiation for inoperable locally recurrent NPC.

Background: Dysfunction of the immune system and inflammation plays a vital role in developing intracranial aneurysms (IAs). However, the progress of genetic pathophysiology is complicated and not entirely elaborated. This study aimed to explore the genetic associations of immune- and inflammation-related genes (IIRGs) with IAs and their subtypes using Mendelian randomization, colocalization test, and integrated multiomics functional analysis.

Objective: In this study, we investigated the safety and practicability of ultra-fast track anesthesia (UFTA) for endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS).

Methods: A total of 72 patients with palmar hyperhidrosis undergoing ETS were randomly divided into three groups: the UFTA group (group I), the group undergoing single-lumen tracheal intubation with local infiltration anesthesia technique (group II), and the group undergoing single-lumen tracheal intubation with routine anesthesia (group III). Mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) were recorded for all three groups at the following six time points: Before anesthetics administration (T0), the time of intubating or inserting laryngeal mask airway (T1), the time of incising skin (T2), the time of disconnecting of the right sympathetic nerve (T3), the time of disconnecting of the left sympathetic nerve (T4), the time of withdrawing the tracheal tube or laryngeal mask airway (T5), and the time of transferring the patient to a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) (T6).
