Article Synopsis
  • MGL-3196 (Resmetirom) is the first approved drug for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), but its effectiveness varies among individuals and its impact on gut microbiota is unclear.
  • Research compared the effects of MGL-3196 and its derivative HSK31679 on MASH in germ-free versus specific-pathogen free mice to explore the role of gut microbiota.
  • HSK31679 was more effective than MGL-3196 in reducing MASH in mice with gut microbiota, indicating that gut microbiota play a crucial role in the drug's efficacy and its interaction with immune responses.

MOE Joint International Research Laboratory of Animal Health and Food Safety, College of Veterinary Medicine, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, China.

Unlabelled: Flavivirus infection capitalizes on cellular lipid metabolism to remodel the cellular intima, creating a specialized lipid environment conducive to viral replication, assembly, and release. The Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), a member of the genus, is responsible for significant morbidity and mortality in both humans and animals. Currently, there are no effective antiviral drugs available to combat JEV infection.

A series of minimally sized regular dodecahedron-embedded metallofullerene REC clusters (RE = Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, and Gd) as basic units of nanoassembled materials with tunable magnetism and UV sensitivity have been explored using density functional theory (DFT). The contribution of the 4f orbital of the rare earth atom at the center of the C cage to the frontier molecular orbital of REC gives the REC cluster additional stability. The AdNDP orbitals of the four REC superatoms that conform to the spherical jellium model indicate that through natural population analysis and spin density diagrams, we observe a monotonic increase in the magnetic moment from Ce to Gd.

In the pursuit of scalable and energy-efficient neuromorphic devices, recent research has unveiled a novel category of spiking oscillators, termed "thermal neuristors." These devices function via thermal interactions among neighboring vanadium dioxide resistive memories, emulating biological neuronal behavior. Here, we show that the collective dynamical behavior of networks of these neurons showcases a rich phase structure, tunable by adjusting the thermal coupling and input voltage.
