Phyllodes tumor (PT) is an uncommon fibroepithelial lesion of the breast. PT can be classified as benign, borderline, and malignant based on semi-quantitative assessment of stromal hypercellularity and overgrowth, cytologic atypia, mitotic activity, tumor border, and presence of malignant heterologous elements. PT is considered malignant by default, if malignant heterologous elements are encountered.

Interconvertible Pyridone Alkaloids from the Marine-Derived Fungus QDU1.

J Nat Prod

April 2023

Department of Natural Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, School of Pharmacy, Qingdao University, Qingdao 266071, China.

Eleven new pyridone alkaloids, penicipyridones A-K (-), and three new tetramic acids, tolypocladenols D-F (-), were isolated from rice media cultures of the marine-derived fungus QDU1. Their structures, including absolute configurations, were determined by comprehensive analyses of spectroscopic data, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. Interestingly, several of the penicipyridones undergo interconversions between hydroxy and methoxy groups at C-4 in acidic MeOH solution.

The integration of transcriptomic and proteomic data from lung tissue with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)-associated genetic variants could provide insight into the biological mechanisms of COPD. Here, we assessed associations between lung transcriptomics and proteomics with COPD in 98 subjects from the Lung Tissue Research Consortium. Low correlations between transcriptomics and proteomics were generally observed, but higher correlations were found for COPD-associated proteins.

[Spatial and Temporal Distribution Characteristics of Ozone Concentration and Population Health Benefit Assessment in the Yangtze River Delta Region from 2017 to 2020].

Huan Jing Ke Xue

February 2023

State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Formation and Prevention of Urban Air Pollution Complex, Shanghai Academy of Environmental Sciences, Shanghai 200233, China.

In recent years, the ozone (O) concentration has showed a rising trend in China, becoming second only to PM as an important factor affecting air quality. To grasp the spatial-temporal variations characteristics of O and the associated health impacts during the implementation of the three-year plan on defending the blue sky in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region, data collected from 210 monitoring stations in the YRD from 2017 to 2020 were analyzed using the global Moran's index and Getis-Ord index methods, and the associated health benefits of reduced O exposure were evaluated using the health risk and environmental value assessment methods. The results showed that during the study period, the interquartile range (IQR) of the annual average O concentration and that of the warm season both presented a declining trend.

Enzymatic Electrosynthesis of Glycine from CO and NH.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

March 2023

Key Laboratory of Engineering Biology for Low-Carbon Manufacturing, Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 32 West 7th Avenue, Tianjin Airport Economic Area, Tianjin, 300308, P. R. China.

Enzymatic electrosynthesis has gained more and more interest as an emerging green synthesis platform, particularly for the fixation of CO . However, the simultaneous utilization of CO and a nitrogenous molecule for the enzymatic electrosynthesis of value-added products has never been reported. In this study, we constructed an in vitro multienzymatic cascade based on the reductive glycine pathway and demonstrated an enzymatic electrocatalytic system that allowed the simultaneous conversion of CO and NH as the sole carbon and nitrogen sources to synthesize glycine.

Self-Assembled Core-Shell Nanoscale Coordination Polymer Nanoparticles Carrying a Sialyltransferase Inhibitor for Cancer Metastasis Inhibition.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

February 2023

State Key Laboratory of Natural and Biomimetic Drugs, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Chemical Biology Center, Peking University, Beijing 100191, China.

Despite hypersialylation of cancer cells together with a significant upregulation of sialyltransferase (ST) activity contributes to the metastatic cascade at multiple levels, there are few dedicated tools to interfere with their expression. Although transition state-based ST inhibitors are well-established, they are not membrane permeable. To tackle this problem, herein, we design and construct long-circulating, self-assembled core-shell nanoscale coordination polymer (NCP) nanoparticles carrying a transition state-based ST inhibitor, which make the inhibitor transmembrane and potently strip diverse sialoglycans from various cancer cells.

Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) is a progressive genetic disease that causes a deficiency in lysosomal enzymes, which play an important role in the degradation pathway of glycosaminoglycans. As a result of enzyme defects, mucopolysaccharides cannot be metabolized and thus accumulate. The cervical spine is one of the most commonly involved sites; thus, prompt surgical management before the onset of severe neurological deterioration is critical.
