Efflorescence of ammonium nitrate (AN) aerosols significantly impacts atmospheric secondary aerosol formation, climate, and human health. We investigated the effect of representative water-soluble organic compounds (WSOCs) (sucralose (SUC), glycerol (GLY), and citric acid (CA) on AN:WSOC aerosol efflorescence using vacuum Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Combining efflorescence relative humidity (ERH) measurements, heterogeneous nucleation rates, and model predictions, we found that aerosol viscosity, correlating with molecular diffusion, effectively predicted ERH variations among the AN:WSOC aerosols.

Screening and early diagnosis and treatment have been proven effective in reducing the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer. Colonoscopy combined with pathological examination is the gold standard for colorectal cancer screening. However, due to the invasiveness, high cost and the need for professional endoscopists of colonoscopy, it is not feasible to directly use this method for mass population screening.

The development of super-resolution technology has made it possible to investigate the ultrastructure of intracellular organelles by fluorescence microscopy, which has greatly facilitated the development of life sciences and biomedicine. To realize super-resolution imaging of living cells, both advanced imaging systems and excellent fluorescent probes are required. Traditional fluorescent probes have good availability, but that is not the case for probes for live-cell super-resolution imaging.

Ferulic acid (FA) is a well-known natural antioxidant that scavenges oxygen free radicals and alleviates oxidative stress. This study investigated the chemopreventive potential of FA against bovine oocyte quality decline during aging. The results showed that 5 μM FA supplementation decreased the abnormality rate of -aged bovine oocytes.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease for which there is a lack of effective therapeutic drugs. There is great potential for natural products to be used in the development of anti-AD drugs. P-coumaric acid (PCA), a small molecule phenolic acid widely distributed in the plant kingdom, has pharmacological effects such as neuroprotection, but its anti-AD mechanism has not been fully elucidated.

An aspartate peptidase with proteolytic activity toward gluten was identified from an isolated red yeast strain. This peptidase consists of 425 amino acids, comprising an N-terminal signal peptide, a propeptide, and a C-terminal catalytic domain. The catalytic domain, termed RmuAP1, could be secreted by the recombinant oleaginous yeast , whose genome contains the expression cassette for RmuAP1.

A narrow structure in the pΛ[over ¯] system near the mass threshold, named as X(2085), is observed in the process e^{+}e^{-}→pK^{-}Λ[over ¯] with a statistical significance greater than 20σ. Its spin and parity are determined for the first time to be J^{P}=1^{+} in an amplitude analysis, with a statistical significance greater than 5σ over other quantum numbers (0^{-},1^{-} and 2^{+}). The pole positions of X(2085) are measured to be M_{pole}=(2084_{-2}^{+4}±9) MeV and Γ_{pole}=(58_{-3}^{+4}±25) MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic.

Although the gut microbiota has been reported to influence osteoporosis risk, the individual species involved, and underlying mechanisms, remain largely unknown. We performed integrative analyses in a Chinese cohort of peri-/post-menopausal women with metagenomics/targeted metabolomics/whole-genome sequencing to identify novel microbiome-related biomarkers for bone health. Bacteroides vulgatus was found to be negatively associated with bone mineral density (BMD), which was validated in US white people.

The alkaline phosphatases (ALPs) are highly promiscuous enzymes and have been extensively investigated in mammals for their medical significance, but their functional promiscuity is relatively poorly understood in insects. Here, we first identified four ALP genes (designated as ) in the vetch aphid that contained one alkaline phosphatase site, three metal-binding sites, and varied other functional sites. Phylogenetic analysis, molecular docking and the spatiotemporal expression profiling of were very different, indicating a promiscuous functionality.

Studies considering the relationship between non-obesity-related body composition and lung function are few; therefore, this study aimed to explore these correlations and effects. This cross-sectional study conducted in rural Qingtongxia City and Pingluo County, Ningxia, China, included 776 participants aged 30-75 years. Body composition and lung function were measured using direct segmental multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis and a digital spirometer, respectively.

Digital memcomputing machines (DMMs) are a new class of computing machines that employ nonquantum dynamical systems with memory to solve combinatorial optimization problems. Here, we show that the time to solution (TTS) of DMMs follows an inverse Gaussian distribution, with the TTS self-averaging with increasing problem size, irrespective of the problem they solve. We provide both an analytical understanding of this phenomenon and numerical evidence by solving instances of the 3-SAT (satisfiability) problem.
