Herein, we report a study on the preparation, properties, and depolymerization of pristine and vulcanized poly(cyclopentene) (poly(CP)), poly(norbornene--cyclopentene) (poly(NB--CP)) and poly(-dicyclopentadiene--cyclopentene) (poly (DCP--CP)). First, poly(CP), poly(NB--CP) and poly(DCP--CP) were prepared with high molecular weight control ( = 200 000-500 000) using dichloro(3-phenyl-1-inden-1-ylidene)bis(tricyclohexylphosphine)ruthenium(ii). Next, carbon black, zinc oxide and other additives were blended into the pristine polymers using a mixer and twin roll rubber mills at 50 °C, followed by vulcanization in metal molds at 160 °C for 10 min, resulting in molded black rubber specimens.

Separation of differentiated and undifferentiated cells without labeling is required for cell analyses and clinical application of cultured differentiated cells in vitro. To proceed with the passive separation of differentiated cells inside a clean bench, we developed a system of deterministic lateral displacement (DLD) microfluidic devices and applied this system to sort differentiated cells in vitro. The fluid flow is driven by compressed air to the buffer.

Lipid nanoparticles often contain a phosphatidylcholine with a long chain fatty acid, 1,2-distearoyl--3-phosphocholine (DSPC). However, their preparation often encounters difficulties such as the inability to yield <20 nm nanoparticles due to the aggregation-prone behavior of DSPC. High-density lipoproteins (HDLs) are ∼10 nm protein-bound lipid nanoparticles in our body, and microfluidic preparations of HDL-mimicking nanoparticles (μHDL) have been reported.

Background: An association exists among the diagnostic yield of transbronchial biopsy using endobronchial ultrasonography with a guide sheath (EBUS-GS-TBB) and several factors, such as simple within or adjacent endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) findings. Here, we aimed to investigate whether more detailed EBUS findings affect the diagnostic yield of lung cancer in EBUS-GS-TBB.

Methods: We conducted this retrospective single-center cohort study, enrolling consecutive patients with lung cancer who underwent EBUS-GS-TBB.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiac autoantibodies (cAAbs) are linked to worsening heart conditions after heart failure, but research is limited due to the lack of suitable animal models.
  • Researchers created a mouse model to study cAAbs following a heart attack, focusing on their effects on cardiac function, inflammation, and fibrosis.
  • The study found that cAAb-positive mice faced worse heart remodeling and prognosis, but treatment with rapamycin reduced cAAb levels and improved heart function and survival rates.

Semicrystalline polymers are categorized as either mobile or fixed crystals, depending on chain mobility in the crystalline region. In this work, we investigate molecular dynamics and phase structure in the cocrystal consisting of fixed and mobile polymer crystals by solid-state (ss) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. It is demonstrated that (i) the mobile component begins large amplitude motions associated with crystal-crystal transition, while fixed ones keep their rigidity in the cocrystal, and (ii) asymmetric molecular dynamics leads to nanosegregations into mobile- and fixed-rich domains in the cocrystal below the melting temperature ().

Electronic address:

Protein aggregate formation in prefilled syringes (PFSs) can be influenced by protein adsorption and desorption at the solid-liquid interface. Although inhibition of protein adsorption on the PFS surface can lead to a decrease in the amount of aggregation, the mechanism underlying protein adsorption-mediated aggregation in PFSs is unclear. This study investigated protein aggregation caused by protein adsorption on silicone oil-free PFS surfaces [borosilicate glass (GLS) and cycloolefin polymer (COP)] and the factors affecting the protein adsorption on the PFS surfaces.

Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells are frequently used for recombinant protein production (RPP) as a host. While the RPP has been proven successful, there is still a compelling need for further improvement. Cyclo olefin polymer (COP) is a plastic material widely utilized due to its properties including its low protein absorption.

Aqueous surfactant dispersion is the most typical starting step to functionalize materials consisting of carbon nanotubes, but the effects of surfactants on the electronic properties are still unclear. Here we report how the functional groups of surfactants affect the electronic properties of carbon nanotube films. Using spectroscopic and thermoelectric characterization, we demonstrate that anionic and non-ionic surfactants contribute to the formation of p-type and n-type carbon nanotubes, respectively.

Department of Biotechnology, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, 2-1 Yamadaoka, Suita, Osaka 565-0871, Japan; Okazaki Institute for Integrative Bioscience, National Institutes of Natural Sciences, 5-1 Higashiyama, Myodaiji, Okazaki, Aichi 444-8787, Japan. Electronic address:

This study evaluated how differences in the surface properties of prefillable syringe barrels and in-solution sampling methods affect micron aggregates and protein adsorption levels. Three syringe types (glass barrel with silicone oil coating [GLS/SO+], glass barrel without silicone oil coating [GLS/SO-], and cyclo-olefin polymer [COP] barrel syringes) were tested with 3 therapeutic proteins (adalimumab, etanercept, and infliximab) using 2 sampling methods (aspiration or ejection). After quiescent incubation, solutions sampled by aspiration exhibited no significant change in micron aggregate concentration in any syringes, whereas those sampled by ejection exhibited increased micron aggregates in both GLS syringe types.
