Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) are characterized by a variety of symptoms that are frequently age-dependent, chronic, or recurrent and are not explained by structural or biochemical abnormalities. There are studies in the literature reporting different results regarding the relationship between prematurity and FGIDs. The main objective of this study was to compare the frequency of FGIDs between preterm and term infants.

This study aimed to determine whether serum mid-luteal progesterone (MLP) levels measured in the current treatment cycles of infertile women undergoing controlled ovarian hyperstimulation and intrauterine insemination following the sequential use of clomiphene citrate and gonadotropin may predict pregnancy. A total of 107 consecutive anovulatory women were included in this prospective cohort study. Patients with other causes of infertility were also excluded from the study.

Background Preeclampsia (PE) is one of the highest-risk pregnancies and a complicated condition that occurs in 2% to 8% of pregnancies and is associated with markers of a systemic inflammatory response (SIR). In this study, we aimed to determine the role of these markers in predicting PE. Methodology A total of 300 women with singleton pregnancies and cephalic presentation were included in the study.

Background In this study, we aimed to demonstrate the efficacy of cysteinyl leukotriene levels, which play a role in inflammation, in predicting the severity of preeclampsia (PE) and to determine whether this marker can be used as a screening tool. Methods In this cross-sectional analytic study, we classified pregnant women who were normotensive (control) or PE or severe PE (SPE) between March 2019 and July 2019. Singleton pregnant 60 women who met the following criteria for the diagnosis of PE were included in the study group.

Introduction: The etiologies of diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) are still poorly understood, and many factors such as age, autoimmunity, genetics, idiopathicity, iatrogenesis, and oxidative stress (OS) play a role. Oxidative cellular damage increases following reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced aging. This is the first study to evaluate the serum and follicular fluid (FF) thiol/disulfide homeostasis in patients under 35 years of age with DOR undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

Effects of Resveratrol on Receptor Expression and Serum Levels of Estrogen and Progesterone in the Rat Endometritis Model.

Reprod Sci

September 2021

Laboratory Animal Care and Research Unit, Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Gazi University, Etiler, 06330, Ankara, Turkey.

Endometritis is characterized by inflammation of the endometrial lining that leads to reduced reproductive potential. Restoring the impaired hormonal balance is an important component of endometritis treatment. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the effects of resveratrol on estrogen and progesterone hormone status in endometritis.

Objectives: Ochoa syndrome (UFS1; Urofacial syndrome-1) is a very rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the gene that results bladder voiding dysfunction and somatic motor neuropathy affecting the VIIth cranial nerve. Niemann-Pick disease is a rare autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder with systemic involvement resulting from sphingomyelinase deficiency and generally occurs via mutation in the sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase-1 gene ().

Case Presentation: Here, we report a 6-year-old girl with symptoms such as urinary incontinence, recurrent urinary tract infections, peculiar facial expression, mainly when smiling, hypertelorism, constipation, incomplete closure of eyelids during sleep and splenomegaly.

Frequency of germline BRCA1/2 mutations and association with clinicopathological characteristics in Turkish women with epithelial ovarian cancer.

Asia Pac J Clin Oncol

February 2022

Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Zekai Tahir Burak Women's Health Research and Education Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, University of Health Sciences, Ankara, Turkey.

Aim: This study aims to determine the frequency of germline BRCA 1/2 mutations in Turkish women with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and evaluate its relationship with clinicopathological characteristics.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, all women with recently diagnosed EOC presenting to Zekai Tahir Burak Women's Health Training and Research Hospital Medical Oncology Clinic between 2016 and 2019 were referred for BRCA testing. Peripheral blood samples were obtained from 76 patients applying to Medical Genetics and BRCA1/2 genes were sequenced using next-generation sequencing.

Objective: We searched thiol/disulphide homeostasis and ischemia modified albumin (IMA) in patients with and without endometrial polyp (EP) to evaluate whether there is an association between serum oxidative stress markers and EPs.

Methods: A total of 87 women were enrolled into this study. All patients were evaluated with office hysteroscopy, and then those with EPs underwent operative hysteroscopy.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the role of Placenta-specific protein 1 (PLAC1) in recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) and repeated implantation failure (RIF), suggesting it could be a biomarker for these conditions.
  • Researchers compared serum PLAC1 levels among three groups: 28 patients with RPL, 30 with unexplained infertility and RIF, and 29 fertile patients, finding significant differences in PLAC1 levels across the groups.
  • Results indicate a positive correlation between serum PLAC1 levels and abortion rates, alongside a negative correlation with live birth rates, suggesting that PLAC1 might negatively affect implantation in RPL and RIF cases.

Are early follicular phase serum progranulin levels predictive of the response to ovarian stimulation in IVF cycles?

Hum Fertil (Camb)

February 2022

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Zekai Tahir Burak Women's Health Research and Education Hospital, University of Health Sciences, Ankara, Turkey.

We sought to investigate the value of progranulin (PGRN) in predicting the response of the ovary to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) during in vitro fertilisation (IVF) cycles. Eighty eight women were recruited to one of three groups: poor-responders (group I), hyper-responders (group II), and normo-responders (group III). Data recorded for each woman included demographics, cycle characteristics, laboratory biomarkers, and IVF outcomes.

Endometritis is an inflammatory disorder of the endometrial lining of the uterine tissue in postpartum stage. Endometritis mostly progresses subclinically and causes infertility through the disruption of the hormonal balance. It has been shown in many studies that resveratrol has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

The purpose of this study was to assess the rate of insulin resistance (IR) and the relationship between IR and high-molecular weight adiponectin (HMWA) in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). A cross sectional study involving 43 women with PCOS and 39 normal women was carried out over a period of nine months. Fasting glucose and insulin levels, lipid parameters and androgen levels were measured in all serum samples.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared serum vitamin D and osteocalcin levels in non-osteoporotic postmenopausal women with and without metabolic syndrome.
  • Women with metabolic syndrome had significantly lower levels of both vitamin D and osteocalcin compared to those without.
  • A positive correlation was found between vitamin D and osteocalcin levels, while both factors showed relationships with various clinical and biochemical parameters, indicating potential impacts on insulin resistance and inflammation.
