Objective: The main aim of this study was to investigate the first trimester maternal serum secreted frizzle-related protein-5 (Sfrp-5) levels and to evaluate the predictive value on the subsequently developed gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Methods: A total of 40 pregnant women who subsequently developed GDM and 44 age- and pre-pregnancy BMI-matched healthy pregnant women were enrolled in this prospective case-control study. First trimester serum Sfrp-5 levels were evaluated to determine if there is an association with the onset of GDM, by using logistic regression analysis.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the serum oxidative stress markers, antioxidant enzyme and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) levels at 24-28 weeks of gestation and to evaluate the predictive value of them on the subsequent treatment protocol in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Methods: A total of 58 GDM patients (30 treated with only conventional healthy dietary recommendation (CHDR), 28 treated with insulin) and 30 healthy pregnant women at 24-28 weeks of gestation, were enrolled in this prospective case-control study. The oxidative status, antioxidant enzyme and TNF-α levels were evaluated to determine if there is an association with the need of insulin therapy for glycemic control by using multivariable logistic regression analysis.

In medicine, estimating the chance of success for treatment is important in deciding whether to begin the treatment or not. This paper focuses on the domain of in vitro fertilization (IVF), where estimating the outcome of a treatment is very crucial in the decision to proceed with treatment for both the clinicians and the infertile couples. IVF treatment is a stressful and costly process.

Objective: This study assessed the clinical significance of endometrial fluid collection (EFC) in asymptomatic postmenopausal women.

Materials And Methods: A total of 564 postmenopausal females were enrolled into this retrospective study, of whom 141, with EFC, comprised the study group; the remaining 423 postmenopausal women (the three consecutive patients) who had been admitted to the menopause outpatient clinic for their routine annual check formed the control group. Data, including age, gravidity, parity, body mass index, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, menopause duration, endometrial thickness and histopathological endometrium results, were compared between groups using the SPSS for Windows software package (version 15.

Obstetric cholestasis (OC) is a pregnancy specific liver disease characterized by increased levels of bile acid (BA) and pruritus. Raised maternal BA levels could be associated with intrauterine death, fetal distress, and preterm labor and also alter the rate and rhythm of cardiomyocyte contraction and may cause fetal arrhythmic events. We report a case of drug resistant fetal supraventricular tachycardia and concomitant OC.

We report the prenatal diagnosis of Cantrell syndrome in the first trimester. During a routine transabdominal ultrasonographic examination, a midline supraumbilical abdominal wall defect including herniated liver and ectopia cordis with a large omphalocele containing the intestines and cystic hygroma was incidentally identified at the 12th week of gestation. A transvaginal sonography examination revealed a severe lumbosacral scoliosis in addition to the inability to visualize the abdominal aorta which was indicative of a severe intracardiac defect.

Background: Relationships between poor prognosis of ovarian malignancies and changes in complete blood count parameters have been proposed previously. In this work, we aimed to evaluate clinicopathologic features in adolescents with adnexal masses and sought to establish any predictive value of the platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in diagnosis.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on 196 adolescent females with adnexal masses.

Objective: Elevated progesterone levels surpassing exact treshold values impede endometrial receptivity and decrease clinical pregnancy rates in different responder patients during assisted reproductive techniques. A progesterone (P): estradiol (E2) ratio of > 1 on the day of hCG administration has also been suggested to be a manifestation of low ovarian reserve. The clinical significance of P/E2 ratio on the day of hCG administration was investigated among poor responder patients.

A new biological marker candidate in female reproductive system diseases: Matrix metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS).

J Turk Ger Gynecol Assoc

January 2015

Department of Reproductive Endocrinology, Zekai Tahir Burak Women's Health Education and Research Hospital, Ankara, Turkey ; Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey.

Playing a key role in the pathophysiology of many diseases, A Disintegrin-like and Metalloproteinase with Thrombospondin type-1 motif (ADAMTS) proteinases have been attracted more attention in obstetrics and gynecology. First discovered in 1997, this zinc-dependent proteinase family has 19 members today. These enzymes, which are located in the extracellular matrix (ECM), have a lot of very important functions, like matrix formation and resorption, angiogenesis, ovulation, and coagulation.

Objective: Preterm birth (PTB) is the major obstetric problem in developed countries, accounting for the majority of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is a hematopoietic cytokine that mediates the increase in leukocytes in pregnancy and may play a role in placentation. We aimed to investigate the differences of serum G-CSF levels between subsequent spontaneous PTB and term-delivered healthy pregnant women.

This study assessed the risk factors for poor clinical outcomes in patients with tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA). Patients managed with medical therapy and discharged within 7 days without complications constituted the favourable prognosis group (n = 22), whereas those who were managed surgically or discharged after 7 days of antibiotic therapy constituted the poor prognosis group (n = 87). Variables including age, gravidity, number of dilation and curettage procedures, caesarean delivery, smoking status, serum C-reactive protein levels, serum white blood count, body temperature, abscess diameter, presence of an intrauterine device (IUD), duration of IUD placement and length of hospitalisation were evaluated to assess their relationship with the clinical prognosis of TOA.
