Multi-state evaluation of Candida infections in burn patients.

Background: Burn patients are at high risk of developing secondary invasive fungal infections due to their compromised skin barrier, extensive use of antibiotics, and immunosuppression.

Objectives: We investigated demographic characteristics and clinical factors associated with Candida infections in intensive care unit (ICU) burn patients, and the in vitro antifungal susceptibility of species of isolates.

Methods: A total of 353 burn patients admitted to three major ICUs of burn centers in Iran were evaluated between 2021 and 2023.

A case series of concomitant burn and COVID-19.

Background: The recently emerged severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) disease (COVID-19) has become a human pandemic. Heightened inflammation, vascular hyperpermeability, acute lung injury, coagulopathy, and cardiovascular abnormalities are among the SARS-CoV-2 infection-related complications. Major burn is also associated with metabolic derangements, vascular leak, and hemodynamic instability.

Naso-pharyngeal discharge: The first symptom of COVID-19 infection: Report two cases from Iran.

Naso-pharyngeal discharge as the first symptom of COVID-19 infection is presented in two cases. Actually, based on the presented cases here we concluded that the early clinical symptoms of COVID-19 may be mimicked the common cold features. Appropriate diagnosis and isolation of the patients help reduce further transmission.

Background: Blood stream infections (BSIs) are major causes of morbidity and mortality in burn patients. Microorganisms responsible for BSI are generally bacteria; however, Candida spp. are the infection agents in as many as 8% of all cases.

Full-thickness skin avulsion of right leg following car accident trauma.

The report presents a 24 year-old man who admitted at the orthopedic center with full-thickness skin avulsion of the right leg, due to his leg being caught under the wheel of a truck and subsequently traumatized. The day after injury, plastic and reconstructive surgery consult was done. After thoroughly irrigation, the 20 cm laceration was repaired above the knee.
