Noncoding RNAs and RNA modifiers are implicated in cancer radiotherapy. Here, we aimed to investigate the role of sperm antigen with calponin homology and coiled-coil domains 1 (SPECC1)-derived circular RNA (circSPECC1; hsa_circ_0000745) in breast cancer (BC) cells under radiation treatment. Based on quantitative real-time PCR, circSPECC1 was highly upregulated in BC patients' tumors and cells, and circSPECC1 expression was further increased with the dosage of radiation in BC cells.

Circ-ABCC1 enhances radioresistance of breast cancer cells via miR-627-5p/ABCC1 axis.

Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand)

September 2022

Department of Oncology, Shandong Energy Zaozhuang Mining Group Central Hospital, Zaozhuang, 277011, Shandong Province, China.

Adjuvant radiotherapy represents the standard of care for breast cancer (BC) following breast-conserving surgery. Tumor recurrence after radiotherapy, attributed to acquired radioresistance, has been a haunting and intractable problem. Therefore, preventions from tumor recurrence are vital for improving survival.

Background: The hsa_circRNA_103809 (circ_0072088) has been an emerging tumour regulator in human cancers, and is identified as one most aberrantly expressed circRNA in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, the role of circ_0072088 remains unclear in PDAC cells.

Methods: Expression of circ_0072088, microRNA (miR)-545-3p and solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11) was detected by real-time quantitative PCR and western blotting.

Loss of DSTYK activates Wnt/β-catenin signaling and glycolysis in lung adenocarcinoma.

Cell Death Dis

December 2021

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Shanghai Chest Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 200030, Shanghai, China.

Aberrant activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling and dysregulation of metabolism have been frequently observed in lung cancer. However, the molecular mechanism by which Wnt/β-catenin signaling is regulated and the link between Wnt/β-catenin signaling and cancer metabolism are not fully understood. In this study, we showed that the loss of dual serine/threonine tyrosine protein kinase (DSTYK) led to the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling and upregulation of its target gene, lactate dehydrogenase (LDHA), and thus the elevation of lactate.

Objective: This study was to determine whether alamandine (Ala) could reduce ischaemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury of kidney in rats.

Methods: Renal I/R was induced by an occlusion of bilateral renal arteries for 70 min and a 24-h reperfusion in vivo, and rat kidney proximal tubular epithelial cells NRK52E were exposed to 24 h of hypoxia and followed by 3-h reoxygenation (H/R) in vitro.

Results: The elevated serum creatinine (Cr), blood cystatin C (CysC) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels in I/R rats were inhibited by Ala treatment.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has become a significant public health risk. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified as important factors involved in the proliferation, apoptosis and inflammatory cytokine expression of lung cells. Peripheral blood samples from 66 subjects (18 non-smokers, 24 smokers without COPD and 28 smokers with COPD) and HBE135-E6E7 cell treated with cigarette smoke extract (CSE) or not were used as the research object.

The dysregulated long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are associated with the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy (DN). LncRNA potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily Q member 1 overlapping transcript 1 (KCNQ1OT1) plays an important role in diabetes, but the role and mechanism of KCNQ1OT1 in DN are largely unknown. Serum samples were collected from 30 DN patients and normal volunteers.

Background: This study used the meta-analytic approach to assess the safety and treatment efficacy of bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) with core decompression (CD) for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Methods: Electronic database of PubMed, Embase, Google Scholar, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang database was searched up to December 26, 2019 for relevant RCTs about combined utilization of BMSCs and CD versus CD alone for ONFH. Gray literature sources were also searched.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of dexmedetomidine (DEX) on patients undergoing peripheral or emergency neurologic surgeries, comparing their biomarker levels to those who received normal saline (NSE).
  • Researchers analyzed blood biomarkers and surgical outcomes from patients with mild-to-moderate traumatic brain injuries who were either in the DEX group (109 patients) or the NSE group (116 patients).
  • Findings indicate that DEX may provide neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant benefits during surgery, as evidenced by differences in plasma brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), cytokine, and superoxide dismutase levels between the two groups.

NF-κB activating protein (NKAP) is a highly conserved protein involved in transcriptional repression, immune cell development, maturation, acquisition of functional competency and maintenance of hematopoiesis. In the present study, the function of NKAP in the progress of Ewing sarcoma (ES) was investigated. It was identified that NKAP is highly expressed in ES cells when compared with human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).
