Article Synopsis
  • - IgA vasculitis nephritis (IgAVN) is an immune disease primarily seen in children, often treated with corticosteroids and immunosuppressants, which can have serious side effects.
  • - Total glucosides of paeony (TGP), a natural compound derived from plants, has shown promise as a safer alternative treatment for IgAVN due to its low side effect profile and beneficial therapeutic mechanisms.
  • - This review discusses how TGP works through various pathways to combat IgAVN, including effects on inflammation and cell repair, and outlines recent developments aimed at improving its effectiveness and availability for future research.

Bixie Fenqing decoction in the treatment of chronic prostatitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Medicine (Baltimore)

September 2024

Department of Andrology, Reproductive Medicine, Yunnan Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital of Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine, Kunming, China.

Background: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) posits that chronic prostatitis is associated with the accumulation of damp-heat pathogenic factors in the lower jiao. The Bixie Fenqing decoction (BFD) eliminates damp-heat pathogenic factors in the body, thereby alleviating inflammation and improving symptoms.

Methods: Databases such as CNKI, WanFang, VIP, CBM, ClinicalKey, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were searched.

Environmental pollutant Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate induces asthenozoospermia: new insights from network toxicology.

The First School of Clinical Medicine, College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine, Kunming, 650500, Yunnan, China.

The global decline in sperm quality in men is closely associated with environmental exposure to the plasticizer Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), but the molecular mechanisms underlying its induction of asthenozoospermia (AZS) remain incompletely understood. By integrating the toxicological targets of DEHP and differential genes in AZS patients, and combining machine learning, molecular docking, and dynamics simulations, this study successfully identified hub genes and signaling pathways induced by DEHP in AZS, aiming to provide new strategies for the prevention and treatment of this disease. A total of 26 toxicological targets were identified, with FGFR1, MMP7, and ST14 clearly defined as playing crucial regulatory roles in DEHP-induced AZS.

Background: Jiang-Tang-San-Huang (JTSH) pill, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription, has long been applied to clinically treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), while the underlying antidiabetic mechanism remains unclarified. Currently, it is believed that the interaction between intestinal microbiota and bile acids (BAs) metabolism mediates host metabolism and promotes T2DM.

Purpose: To elucidate the underlying mechanisms of JTSH for treating T2DM with animal models.

Jujing Zhuyu decoction (JZD) is a traditional Chinese medicine that effectively improves sperm motility. However, the molecular mechanism of JZD on asthenozoospermia still remains unknown. In this study, we investigated the effect of JZD on the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway in an asthenozoospermia rat model.

Jian-Ti-Kang-Yi decoction (JTKY) is widely used in the treatment of COVID-19. However, the protective mechanisms of JTKY against pneumonia remain unknown. In this study, polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly(I:C)), a mimic of viral dsRNA, was used to induce pneumonia in mice; the therapeutic effects of JTKY on poly(I:C)-induced pneumonia model mice were evaluated.

Jian-Gan-Xiao-Zhi decoction (JGXZ) has demonstrated beneficial effects on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the mechanisms by which JGXZ improve NAFLD are still unclear. In this study, we first used a high-fat diet (HFD) to establish a NAFLD rat model to clarify the therapeutic effect of JGXZ on NAFLD.

Objective: To investigate the mechanism of Xianfang Huoming Decoction (XHD) improving sperm motility in mice with asthenospermia (AS).

Methods: Thirty normal BALB/c mice were randomly divided into six groups, blank control, AS model control, low-dose XHD, medium-dose XHD, high-dose XHD and levocarnitine + vitamin E (LC+VE). The AS model was established in the latter five groups by injection of methotrexate at 0.

Pi-Dan-Jian-Qing decoction (PDJQ) can been used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in clinic. However, the protective mechanisms of PDJQ on T2DM remain unknown. Recent studies have shown that the changes in gut microbiota could affect the host metabolism and contribute to progression of T2DM.

In the present study, due to the complex and numerous targets of Sarcandrae Herb (also known as Zhong Jie Feng), network pharmacology was performed to analyze its therapeutic effect on 2 cervical cancer cell lines, which could assist with the development of novel therapies. The results suggested that the natural flavonoid quercetin (Que), the effective antitumor ingredient in SH, which is widely present in a variety of plants, may depend on the target, EGFR. Previous studies have shown that EGFR serves a crucial role in the occurrence and development of cervical cancer, but its downstream molecules and regulatory mechanisms remain unknown.

Background: Jian-Gan-Xiao-Zhi decoction (JGXZ), composed of , , , and other 9 types of herbs, has demonstrated beneficial effects on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the mechanisms behind JGXZ's impact on NAFLD remain unknown.

Methods: In this study, a NAFLD rat model induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) received oral treatment of JGXZ (8 or 16 g crude herb/kg) for 12 weeks.

Pyrrolidine Dithiocarbamate Facilitates Arsenic Trioxide Against Pancreatic Cancer via Perturbing Ubiquitin-Proteasome Pathway.

Cancer Manag Res

December 2020

Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: To investigate whether pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) could facilitate arsenic trioxide (ATO) to induce apoptosis in pancreatic cancer cells via perturbing ubiquitin-proteasome pathway.

Methods: Mass spectrometry was performed to examine the interaction between PDTC and ATO, and the data showed they could form a complex termed PDTC-ATO. Inhibiting effects on cell viability were examined by CCK-8 test, and apoptosis was examined by flow cytometry.

Background: Osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) is usually treated by percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) which has limitations. We aimed to evaluate the effects of PKP combined with zoledronic acid (ZOL) injection on OVCF and bone metabolism indices.

Methods: A total of 600 OVCF patients admitted from June 2015 to June 2020 were randomly divided into group A (PKP alone), group B (PKP combined with ZOL 1 month later) and group C (PKP concurrently combined with ZOL) (N.
