Insulin treatment was confirmed to reduce insulin resistance, but the underlying mechanism remains unknown. Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) is a functional protein of the membrane lipid rafts, known as caveolae, and is widely expressed in mammalian adipose tissue. There is increasing evidence that show the involvement of Cav-1 in the AKT activation, which is responsible for insulin sensitivity.

Background: Autophagy is an evolutionary conserved important process for the turnover of intracellular substances in eukaryotes and is closely related to the development of atrial fibrillation (AF). The aim of this study is to identify and validate potential autophagy-related genes (ARGs) of AF through bioinformatics analysis and experimental validation.

Methods: We downloaded two data sets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, GSE14975 and GSE31821.

To report a novel common-iliac-artery skirt technology (CST) in treating challenge iliac artery aneurysms. When required healthy landing zone of common iliac artery (CIA) is not available, CST is a strategy to exclude the internal iliac artery (IIA) and prevent IIA reflux without need of embolization. Patients who received endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) in our center from 2014 to 2020 were retrospectively screened, and patients treated with CST or with IIA embolization (IIAE) were enrolled.

Objective: Thrombosis in patients with atrial arrhythmias might be associated with remodeling of the left atrium (LA). We aimed to describe this relationship and identify a novel factor, in addition to the CHADS-VASc score, to guide therapeutic strategies for preventing thromboembolism in the hope of improving the prognosis for such patients.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with atrial arrhythmias and who met our inclusion criteria were enrolled in this study.

Lysyl hydroxylase 1 (LH1) deficiency promotes angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced dissecting abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Theranostics

February 2022

State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing 100037, China.

The progressive disruption of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, particularly early elastin fragmentation followed by abnormalities in collagen fibril organization, are key pathological processes that contribute to dissecting abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) pathogenesis. Lysyl hydroxylase 1 (LH1) is essential for type I/III collagen intermolecular crosslinking and stabilization. However, its function in dissecting AAA has not been explored.

Background: The appropriate target for systolic blood pressure to reduce cardiovascular risk in older patients with hypertension remains unclear.

Methods: In this multicenter, randomized, controlled trial, we assigned Chinese patients 60 to 80 years of age with hypertension to a systolic blood-pressure target of 110 to less than 130 mm Hg (intensive treatment) or a target of 130 to less than 150 mm Hg (standard treatment). The primary outcome was a composite of stroke, acute coronary syndrome (acute myocardial infarction and hospitalization for unstable angina), acute decompensated heart failure, coronary revascularization, atrial fibrillation, or death from cardiovascular causes.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) associated with congenital heart disease (PAH-CHD) occurs predominantly among patients with uncorrected congenital heart disease (CHD). It is an intractable problem to control PAH continuously and stably after an operation. 1) OPLS-DA combined with S-plot was used to retrospectively analyze the results of preoperative and postoperative PAH and 39 biochemical indicators of 235 patients admitted to Fuwai Yunnan Cardiovascular Hospital from January 2019 to December 2020.

Background: Non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) are alternative to vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Along with their widespread clinical use in China, the off-label use of NOACs is commonly seen in real-world practice, which could result in adverse drug events and poor clinical outcomes. However, guideline adherence and label adherence for NOAC prescriptions have not been well evaluated in a real-world setting in China.

Electronic address:

Development of major aortopulmonary collateral arteries are strongly associated with cyanotic congenital heart disease. However, they have rarely been reported in noncyanotic congenital heart disease. We report a rare case of a newborn originally diagnosed with an atrial septal defect, a ventricular septal defect, and pulmonary arterial hypertension who underwent complete repair.

Objectives: Vein graft adaptation (VGA) is a process that vein as a vascular graft conduits in arterial reconstructive surgery; VGA can lead to postoperative vein graft stenosis (VGS) and complications after coronary artery bypass graft and other peripheral artery bypass surgeries. VGA is characterized by vein graft loss the venous features without exhibiting arterial features; furthermore, the activation of ERK inhibited the maintenance of venous properties of the vein graft. We hypothesized that ERK inhibition can affect vein VGS through regulating the expression of EphB4.

Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is the cornerstone therapy of atrial fibrillation (AF). Radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) is performed using a point-by-point method to achieve durable PVI. However, this procedure remains complex and time-consuming, and the long-term clinical outcomes are still not satisfactory.
