BACKGROUND International studies have shown that use of a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (S-ICD) could reduce lead-related complications while maintaining adequate defibrillation performance; however, data from the Chinese population or other Asian groups are limited. MATERIAL AND METHODS SCOPE is a prospective, multicenter, observational cohort study. Two hundred patients with primary prevention indication for sudden cardiac death (SCD), who are candidates for S-ICD, will be enrolled.

Hypertensive Intracerebral Hemorrhage (HICH) is one of the most common types of cerebral hemorrhage with a high mortality and disability rate. Currently, preoperative non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) scanning-guided stereotactic hematoma removal has achieved good results in treating HICH, but some patients still have poor prognoses. This study collected relevant clinical and radiomic data by retrospectively collecting and analyzing 432 patients who underwent stereotactic hematoma removal for HICH from January 2017 to December 2020 at the Liuzhou Workers Hospital.

Background: The Basic Public Health Service (BPHS), a recently announced free healthcare program, aims to combat the most prevalent Noncommunicable Disease-"Hypertension" (HTN)-and its risk factors on a nationwide scale. In China, there is a rife that HTN less impacts women during their lifetime. We, therefore, aimed to evaluate the sex disparity in hypertension patients with comorbidities among south-west Chinese and the contribution of BPHS to address that concern.

Glycogen metabolism plays a key role in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the function of glycogen metabolism genes in the tumor microenvironment (TME) is still to be elucidated. Single-cell RNA-seq data were obtained from ten HCC tumor samples totaling 64,545 cells, and 65 glycogen metabolism genes were analyzed by a nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF). The prognosis and immune response of new glycogen TME cell clusters were predicted by using HCC and immunotherapy cohorts from public databases.

Improved stacking ensemble learning based on feature selection to accurately predict warfarin dose.

Front Cardiovasc Med

January 2024

School of Mechanical Engineering (Shandong Institute of Mechanical Design and Research), Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences), Jinan, Shandong, China.

Background: With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, prediction of warfarin dose via machine learning has received more and more attention. Since the dose prediction involve both linear and nonlinear problems, traditional machine learning algorithms are ineffective to solve such problems at one time.

Objective: Based on the characteristics of clinical data of Chinese warfarin patients, an improved stacking ensemble learning can achieve higher prediction accuracy.

Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, 1277 Jiefang Ave, Wuhan 430022, China.

Heart transplantation is currently the most effective treatment for end-stage heart failure; however, the shortage in donor hearts constrains the undertaking of transplantation. Mechanical circulatory support (MCS) technology has made rapid progress in recent years, providing diverse therapeutic options and alleviating the dilemma of donor heart shortage. The ventricular assist device (VAD), as an important category of MCS, demonstrates promising applications in bridging heart transplantation, destination therapy, and bridge-to-decision.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how temperature fluctuations relate to acute myocardial infarction (AMI) hospitalizations in Beijing between 2013 and 2016.
  • It finds that different temperature metrics, like temperature range and daily mean temperature differences, show varying patterns of association with AMI risk, with young adults more affected by larger temperature ranges.
  • The research indicates that extreme low and high temperatures increase AMI hospitalization risk, particularly among women and older adults who are more sensitive to these temperature changes.

To explore the efficacy of myocardial protection with single-dose histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate (HTK) cardioplegia during aortic root operation, and the correlation between short-term clinical outcomes and duration of myocardial ischemia. The data of clinical cases undergoing myocardial protection with single-dose HTK cardioplegia during aortic root operation from January 2018 to December 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were divided into conventional HTK cardioplegia group (<3 h) and prolonged HTK cardioplegia group (≥3 h) according to duration of intraoperative myocardial ischemia.

To evaluate the feasibility and safety of transcatheter tricuspid valve edge-to-edge repair guided by only transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation in Fuwai Yunnan Cardiovascular Hospital who met the inclusion criteria based on clinical and echocardiographic evaluationand underwent transcatheter tricuspid valve edge-to-edge repair between January 2022 and May 2023 were prospectively enrolled. The procedure was performed under general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation and solely guided by TEE.

Synergistic Enhancement of Isoforskolin and Dexamethasone Against Sepsis and Acute Lung Injury Mouse Models.

J Inflamm Res

December 2023

School of Pharmaceutical Science and Yunnan Key Laboratory of Pharmacology for Natural Products, Kunming Medical University, Kunming, People's Republic of China.

Background: Sepsis is initiated by the dysfunctional response of the host immune system to infection. Septic shock and acute lung injury (ALI) are the main etiology of death caused by sepsis. Glucocorticoids, which are commonly used in clinic to antagonize the inflammatory response of sepsis, may cause serious side effects.

Collaborative Innovation Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

Objective: To evaluate effect of inoculum size of extended-spectrum β-Lactamase (ESBL)-producing-, AmpC-producing-, and KPC-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae on the in vitro antibacterial effects of imipenem/relebactam (IMR) and ceftazidime/avibactam (CZA).

Methods: We compared the impact of inoculum size on IMR and CZA of sixteen clinical isolates and three standard isolates through antimicrobial susceptibility tests, time-kill assays and in vitro PK/PD studies.

Results: When inoculum size increased from 10 to 10 CFU/mL, an inoculum effect was observed for 26.

Objective: Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury is a major cause of cardiac tissue damage, with high disability and death rates. Although both dexmedetomidine (Dex) and propofol (PPF) have been indicated to alleviate MI/R injury in rat models, the effects of the combined use of these two drugs remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the combined effects of Dex and PPF against MI/R injury and related mechanisms.

State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, People's Republic of China.

Background: Increased endothelial permeability of pulmonary vessels is a primary pathological characteristic of septic acute lung injury (ALI). Previously, elevated lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) levels and LPA (an LPA receptor) expression have been found in the peripheral blood and lungs of septic mice, respectively. However, the specific role of LPA in septic ALI remains unclear.

The normal anatomical course of right upper lobe pulmonary vein involves drainage anteriorly to the pulmonary artery, ultimately reaching the left atrium. However, anomalies can occur with the most common variation involving the convergence of the right upper lobe pulmonary vein with the superior vena cava. In a rare pulmonary vascular malformation, the anomalous right upper lobe pulmonary vein takes a path between the right pulmonary artery and right main bronchus .
