Background: As is known, CD4 cell count is a significant parameter predicting HIV progression, opportunistic infections and death in HIV-infected individuals, as well was an important indicator for initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART). In China's National Free Antiretroviral Treatment Program, people with HIV (PWH) on ART can receive a CD4 count test at least once every six months. Importantly, the baseline CD4 count (before ART initiation) is significantly correlated with ART and even prognosis, but the influence of the peak CD4 cell count on ART and/or clinical outcomes is still unknown.

The post-translational modification of cysteine through redox reactions, especially S-sulfhydration, plays a critical role in regulating protein activity, interactions, and spatial arrangement. This review focuses on the impact of protein S-sulfhydration on vascular function and its implications in vascular diseases. Dysregulated S-sulfhydration has been linked to the development of vascular pathologies, including aortic aneurysms and dissections, atherosclerosis, and thrombotic diseases.

Background: Yunnan has the highest rates of HIV in China. Other treatable sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are associated with accelerated HIV transmission and poor ART outcomes, but are only diagnosed by syndromic algorithms.
Methods: We recruited 406 HIV-positive participants for a cross-sectional study (204 ART-naive and 202 receiving ART).

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is associated with an increased risk of aggressive lymphoma, especially diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). There are few data regarding HIV-associated DLBCL in China. Therefore, we analyzed the characteristics and outcomes of patients with HIV-associated DLBCL from our center.

Background: To investigate the dynamic changes in high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients with different severities in different disease stages.
Methods: We retrospectively collected the clinical and imaging data of 96 patients in Yunnan Province, China, who were diagnosed with COVID-19 between January 22 and March 15, 2020. Based on disease severity, the COVID-19 patients were classified into four types: mild (n=15), moderate (n=59), severe (n=19), and critical (n=3).

Methods: We retrospectively collected clinical and imaging data from 262 cases of confirmed viral pneumonia in 20 hospitals in Yunnan Province, China, from March 1, 2015 to March 15, 2020. According to the virus responsible for the pneumonia, the pneumonias were divided into non-COVID-19 (141 cases) and COVID-19 (121 cases).

The pharmacogenomics and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of 400 mg efavirenz have rarely been reported. A total of 184 treatment-naive HIV-infected patients were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive a lower dose (tenofovir disoproxil 200 mg, efavirenz 400 mg and lamivudine) or a standard dose regimen. Relationships between pharmacogenomics and efavirenz pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics were explored at 48 weeks.

Background: The clinical and laboratory characteristics of AIDS-associated Talaromyces marneffei infection, a rare but a fatal mycosis disease of the central nervous system, remain unclear.
Case Presentation: Herein, we conducted a retrospective study of ten AIDS patients with cerebrospinal fluid culture-confirmed central nervous system infection caused by Talaromyces marneffei. All 10 patients were promptly treated with antifungal treatment for a prolonged duration and early antiviral therapy (ART).

Reduced doses of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs may lower toxicity while preserving efficacy. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of reduced doses of both tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) and efavirenz for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. In this open-label, non-inferiority trial, HIV-1-infected antiretroviral-naive adults were randomly assigned to receive either a lower dose anti-retroviral regimen comprised of TDF (200 mg), efavirenz (400 mg), and standard dose lamivudine (300 mg) or the standard dose regimen.

Sweet's syndrome and eosinophilic folliculitis are aseptic inflammatory dermatitis mainly because of infiltrated neutrophils and eosinophils on skin, respectively. These diseases rarely overlap or coexist in the same patient, especially co-occur in HIV infected patient. Here, we report a rare case of an AIDS patient who developed eosinophilic folliculitis and Sweet's syndrome within 1 month of initial antiretroviral therapy, presumably due to immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome.

The chief concerns for antiretroviral therapy (ART) programs considering removal of CD4 cell count thresholds for treatment are the increased incidence of ART-related adverse events. A nationwide observational cohort study was conducted among patients who initiated ART in 2012. We divided the eligible patients into three groups: an early ART group with a baseline CD4 cell count of 500 cells/μL or greater, a standard ART group with a baseline CD4 cell count between 350 and 499 cells/μL, and a late ART group with a baseline CD4 cell count between 200 and 349 cells/μL.

Background: An zidovudine (AZT)-substitution regimen containing 24-week stavudine (d4T) followed by long-term AZT for HIV therapy is potential to trade off short-term AZT-related anemia and long-term risks associated with d4T in resource-limited settings. However, evidence is scarce. This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of AZT-substitution regimen, aiming to find a regimen with better efficacy, less adverse events, and more affordability in resource-limited settings.
