Immunogenic cell death (ICD) of tumor cells, which is characterized by releasing immunostimulatory "find me" and "eat me" signals, expressing proinflammatory cytokines and providing personalized and broad-spectrum tumor antigens draws increasing attention in developing a tumor vaccine. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether the influenza virus (IAV) is efficient enough to induce ICD in tumor cells and an extra modification of IAV components such as hemeagglutinin (HA) will be helpful for the ICD-induced cells to elicit robust antitumor effects; in addition, to evaluate whether the membrane-engineering polylactic coglycolic acid nanoparticles (PLGA NPs) simulating ICD immune stimulation mechanisms hold the potential to be a promising vaccine candidate, a mouse melanoma cell line (B16-F10 cell) was infected with IAV rescued by the reverse genetic system, and the prepared cells and membrane-modified PLGA NPs were used separately to immunize the melanoma-bearing mice. IAV-infected tumor cells exhibit dying status, releasing high mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and exposing calreticulin (CRT), IAV hemeagglutinin (HA), and tumor antigens like tyrosinase-related protein 2 (TRP2).

Eco-concrete is an engineered porous material, often used in pervious pavement and slope protection. Volcanic rock, due to its loose and porous structure, can absorb pollutants and improve the performance of eco-concrete. Here, this study determined the performance of eco-concrete modified with different contents of volcanic rock in sewage purification.

Periphyton acts as an important primary producer in stream food webs with bottom-up grazing pressure and is also subject to effects of top-down grazing pressure. However, the underlying mechanisms of these interactions remain unclear. In this study we conducted a mesocosm experiment to explore the periphyton response to grazing pressure by the freshwater snail in relation to food quality indicated by polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) biomarkers, including eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n3) and the 22C fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n3), which are essential for cell growth and reproduction and cannot be synthesized by most consumers of periphyton.

High-altitude areas are thought to be more sensitive to climate change, but long-term series of land surface temperature (LST) observations are still inadequate in low-latitude high-altitude mountainous areas. We investigated spatiotemporal variations in the LST and its dominant driving factors at different time scales based on the long-term series (2001 - 2020) of MODIS data over the Yunnan Province (YNP) in southwest China, with a special focus on elevation-dependent warming (EDW). The results indicated that annual LST generally increased at a rate of 0.

The number of cationic residues and net charge are critical for the activity of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) due to their role in facilitating initial electrostatic interactions with negatively charged bacterial membranes. A cathelicidin AMP (TC-33) has been identified from the Chinese tree shrew in our previous work, which exhibited weak antimicrobial activity, likely due to its moderately cationic nature. In the current study, based on TC-33, we designed a novel AMP by peptide truncation and Glu substitutions to increase its net cationic charge from +4 to +8.

In this paper, a Caputo fractional tumor immune model of combination therapy is established. First, the stability and biological significance of each equilibrium point are analyzed, and it is demonstrated that chaos may arise under specific conditions. Combined with the mathematical definition of Caputo fractional differentiation (CFD), it is found that there is a high correlation between the chaotic phenomenon of the patient's condition and the sensitivity of the patient to the change in the state of the day.

Background: A large number of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been implicated in the progression of oral cancer (OC). This study aimed to investigate the role of a novel lncRNA, LINC00342, in OC and elucidate its molecular mechanism.
Methods: Differential expression of lncRNA/miRNA/mRNA was analyzed using the Gene Expression Omnibus database and validated with RT-qPCR.

During major evolutionary transitions, groups develop radically new body plans and radiate into new habitats. A classic example is cetaceans which evolved from terrestrial ancestors to become pelagic swimmers. In doing so, they altered their air-filled sinuses, transitioning some of these spaces to allow for fluctuations in air capacity and storage via soft tissue borders.

Heavy metal (HM) contaminants are the emerging driving force for reshaping the microflora of plants by eradicating the non-tolerance and non-resistant microbes via their lethal effects. Seeds served as a prime source of ancestral microbial diversity hereditary transfer from generation to generation. However, the problem arises when they got exposed to metal contamination, does metal pollutant disrupt the delicate balance of microbial communities within seeds and lead to shifts in their microflora across generations.

The modified walnut shell biochar (WBC) was prepared through zinc-iron bimetallic oxide modification (ZF@WBC) at 600 °C under oxygen-limited conditions in this study. Through adsorption experiments, characterization analyses, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the adsorption properties of ZF@WBC to Pb (II) were investigated and the mechanism underlying such adsorption was elucidated. Characterization results showed that the surface area (375.

Atmospheric ozone (O) has been placed on the priority control pollutant list in China's 14th Five-Year Plan. Due to their unique meteorological conditions, plateau regions contain high concentrations of atmospheric O. However, traditional experimental methods for determining O concentrations using automatic monitoring stations cannot predict O trends.

Glaucoma is a degenerative disease characterized by retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death and visual impairment caused by elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). Elevated IOP can activate microglia, which participate in ganglion cell injury. Based on the study of caveolin-1 (Cav-1) in glaucoma, we aimed to explore the effect and mechanism of Cav-1 on RGC apoptosis in mice with acute ocular hypertension (AOH).

Ship transportation is a primary mode for global trade and cargo transport, yet even minor discrepancies can lead to ship accidents, causing severe secondary environmental pollution. Maritime accidents involve complex and numerous factors. Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) can identify the key contributing factors and their impact levels by eliminating homogenization factors in maritime accidents.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is closely associated with the neurotoxic effects of amyloid-β (Aβ), leading to synaptic damage, neuronal loss and cognitive dysfunction. Previous in vitro studies have demonstrated the potential of corilagin to counteract Aβ-induced oxidative stress, inflammatory injury, and β-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme-1 (BACE1) activity in Aβ production. However, the in vivo protective effects of corilagin on Alzheimer's disease remain unexplored.

Cathelicidins, a major class of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), hold considerable potential for antimicrobial drug development. In the present study, we identified a novel cathelicidin AMP (TC-33) derived from the Chinese tree shrew. Despite TC-33 demonstrating weak antimicrobial activity, the novel peptide TC-14, developed based on its active region, exhibited a 432-fold increase in antimicrobial activity over the parent peptide.

The widespread presence of antibiotics in aquatic environments, resulting from excessive use and accumulation, has raised significant concerns. A NiFe₂O₄/ZnIn₂S₄/Biochar (NFO/ZIS/BC) magnetic nanocomposite was successfully synthesized, demonstrating significantly enhanced electron-hole separation properties. Comprehensive investigations were conducted to evaluate the impact of various parameters, including catalyst mass, pH, and the presence of co-existing ions on the composite's performance.
