Pathways among the nursing practice environment, job burnout, and job satisfaction to intention to leave: a cross-sectional study conducted in Taiwan.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the pathways among the practice environment, job burnout, and job satisfaction and their relationships with the intention to leave among clinical nurses.

Method: A cross-sectional survey was administered to 310 nursing staff members working in regional teaching hospitals in southern Taiwan. The instruments used included the practice environment, job satisfaction, job burnout, and sociodemographic characteristics questionnaires.

Autophagy facilitates the degradation of organelles and cytoplasmic proteins in a lysosome-dependent manner. It also plays a crucial role in cell damage. Whether loganin affects autophagy in chronic constriction injury (CCI)-induced neuropathic pain remains unclear.

WWOX Modulates ROS-Dependent Senescence in Bladder Cancer.

The tumor-suppressor gene, WW domain-containing oxidoreductase (WWOX), has been found to be lost in various types of cancers. ROS result as a tightly regulated signaling process for the induction of cell senescence. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of WWOX in the regulation of ROS and cell senescence, which is intriguing in terms of the possible mechanism of WWOX contributing to bladder cancer.

Prognostic Impact of Low-Level p53 Expression on Brain Astrocytomas Immunopositive for Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor.

Although the expression of p53 and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is associated with therapeutic resistance and patient outcomes in many malignancies, the relationship in astrocytomas is unclear. This study aims to correlate p53 and EGFR expression in brain astrocytomas with overall patient survival. Eighty-two patients with astrocytomas were enrolled in the study.

The study of distribution of ingested terbinafine on skin with ambient ionization tandem mass spectrometry.

We aim to develop an efficient and non-invasive strategy for monitoring of drugs and their metabolites via human skin. Probe sampling was combined with thermal desorption-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (TD-ESI/MS/MS) to characterize trace terbinafine, which was secreted on patient's skin after ingesting terbinafine tablets. The terbinafine ion signals were directly detected in the samples collected from different skin regions and the signals were monitored for 8 weeks.

Molecular cartography of residue pesticides on grape surface in 3D by ambient ionization tandem mass spectrometry.

Thermal desorption-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (TD-ESI/MS/MS) was used to characterize the residual pesticides that were collectedfromthe surface of a grapewithmetallic sampling probes. Fungicides, insecticides, and miticides were detected, where results were validated by simple solvent extraction followed by gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry analyses. To explore the distribution of pesticide residues on grape surfaces, 149 locations of a grape surface were collected and followed by TD-ESI/MS/MS analysis.

Molecular Mapping of Sebaceous Squalene by Ambient Mass Spectrometry.

Squalene (SQ), a highly unsaturated sebaceous lipid, plays an important role in protecting human skin. To better understand the role of SQ in clinical medicine, an efficient analytical approach is needed to comprehensively study the distribution of SQ on different parts of the skin. In this study, sebaceous lipids were collected from different epidermal areas of a volunteer with sampling probes.

This study aimed to verify the factorial structure, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and discriminant validity of the High-need Community-dwelling Older Adults Screening Scale (HCOASS). A 20-item HCOASS covering five domains was used with a systematic random sample of 818 community-dwelling older adults. After the analyses, the Exploratory Factor Analysis suggested a removal of two items, resulting in 5 domains with 18 items, and the Confirmatory Factor Analysis yielded satisfactory results with Goodness of Fit Index of .

Effectiveness of Theory-Based Health Information Technology Interventions on Coronary Artery Disease Self-Management Behavior: A Clinical Randomized Waitlist-Controlled Trial.

Purpose: Secondary prevention of coronary artery disease, self-management behavior, and blood pressure control are important to cardiovascular event prevention and promotion of quality of life (QOL), but they are underutilized. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a self-efficacy theory-based health information technology intervention implemented through blood control and patient self-management.

The association between bowel resection and the risk of nontyphoidal salmonella infection: a nationwide propensity score-matched cohort study.

Nontyphoidal salmonella (NTS) infection has a high mortality rate. Bowel resections affect gut microbiota and immune function, and the association between bowel resection and NTS infection in human beings has not been addressed. We conducted a nationwide propensity score (PS)-matched cohort study to clarify this association.

Role of HMGB1/TLR4 Axis in Ischemia/Reperfusion-Impaired Extracellular Glutamate Clearance in Primary Astrocytes.

(1) Background: Abnormal accumulation of extracellular glutamate can occur as dysfunction of astrocytic glutamate transporters, which has been linked to ischemic brain injury. Excessive extracellular glutamate-induced abnormal excitotoxicity is the major cause of secondary neuronal damage after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion. However, the definite mechanism of impaired astrocytic glutamate reuptake remains unclear.

Female Human Papillomavirus Infection Associated with Increased Risk of Infertility: A Nationwide Population-Based Cohort Study.

Objective: This study investigated whether women with a history of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection have an increased risk of infertility.

Material And Methods: All patients with an HPV infection (n = 11,198) in Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database (2000-2012) were propensity score matched with control subjects (n = 11,198) without an HPV infection by age, sex, index year, and relevant co-morbidities. Both groups were tracked until a diagnosis of infertility was recorded.

Obtaining molecular imagings of pesticide residues on strawberry surfaces with probe sampling followed by ambient ionization mass spectrometric analysis.

Thermal desorption-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (TD-ESI/MS/MS) was used to rapidly characterize the residual pesticides collected on the surface of a strawberry with a metallic probe. Twelve pesticides, including nine fungicides and three miticides, were detected; the results were validated by comparison with results that used solvent extraction followed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry analyses. The distribution of pesticide residues on a strawberry's surface was explored by collecting multiple samples using probes from 40 positions on the strawberry, with the collected samples being analyzed with TD-ESI/MS/MS.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is caused by hyperglycemia, which induces oxidative stress and inflammatory responses that damage nerve tissue. Schwann cell dysfunction further promotes DPN progression.

The Risk of Subsequent Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism in Patients with Nontyphoidal Salmonellosis: A Nationwide Cohort Study.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) risk among patients with a diagnosis of nontyphoidal salmonellosis (NTS) in an Asian population. The risk was analyzed in a cohort of 17,855 patients newly diagnosed with NTS and 71,420 individuals without NTS using a hospitalization claim dataset. Both groups were matched by age, sex, and index date as an original analysis.

Histopathology of fluoroscopy-induced radiation ulcer: a case series study in comparison with morphea.

Background And Objectives: Histopathologic diagnosis of fluoroscopy-induced radiation ulcer (FIRU) can be challenging if the past history of radiation exposure is unknown. Morphea is the most important differential diagnosis. This study was intended to identify clinical and pathologic features that can be used to distinguish FIRU from morphea.

Longitudinal gray matter changes of the pain matrix in patients with carbon monoxide intoxication: A voxel-based morphometry study.

Purpose: Carbon monoxide (CO) intoxication causes gray matter (GM) changes and headache symptom in patients with CO intoxication, but the headache-associated GM changes are not well understood. The purpose of this study was to perform a voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis to investigate longitudinal GM changes of brain pain matrix in patients with CO intoxication.

Methods: This prospective study enrolled 24 patients with CO intoxication and 20 healthy controls.
