This study investigated the impact of LNP023 on the AMPK/mTOR signaling pathway in lupus nephritis (LN) and its effects on autophagy and oxidative stress. A mouse model of LN was established, and renal injury was confirmed by assessing various LN markers, including antinuclear antibody, ds-DNA, anti-Sm antibody, and others. Mice were treated with LNP023, the AMPK activator AICAR, or the AMPK inhibitor dorsomorphin.

Objective: To investigate the effects of ferulic acid (FA) on proliferation, apoptosis and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway of human acute myeloid leukemia (AML) U937 cells.

Methods: Different concentrations of FA (0、10、25、50、100、200 μmol/L) was used to treat human AML cell lines Kasumi-1, HL-60, and U937 cells respectively for 24 h. The cell survival rate was detected by cell counting kit-8 method, and the 50% inhibitory concentration (IC) of each cell line was calculated.

Poor survival and restricted function of transplanted stem cells are regarded as limiting their efficacy in wound recovery greatly. Consequently, it is necessary to identify innovative therapeutic strategies to solve these issues. Firstly, the biological effect of PF-127 hydrogel alone and in combination with SAP on the survival, and migration of cultured HUCMSCs was assessed by cell viability, apoptosis, and scratch wound assays.

Preliminary study on the mechanism of POFUT1 in colorectal cancer.

Med Oncol

July 2023

Department of Histology & Embryology, Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, ChangSha, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how POFUT1 affects colorectal cancer (CRC) cells, focusing on cell growth, movement, and death.
  • Researchers silenced POFUT1 in two CRC cell lines (SW480 and RKO) and conducted several assays to measure its impact on cell behavior.
  • Results showed that reducing POFUT1 led to slower cell growth, less movement, and more cell death, indicating that POFUT1 supports tumor growth by enhancing proliferation and migration while preventing apoptosis.

Background: Few studies have investigated the change in life expectancy (LE) and the healthy lifespan among patients with advanced schistosomiasis. This study was to evaluate the LE and healthy life expectancy (HLE) for patients and assess the mechanism responsible for the LE inequality.

Methods: We utilized data from a dynamic advanced schistosomiasis cohort (10,362 patients) for the period from January 2008 to December 2019 in Hunan Province, China, to calculate the LEs of patients, and made a comparison with that of general population (19,642 schistosomiasis-free individuals) in the schistosomiasis endemic areas.

Gastric cancer remains a malignant disease of the digestive tract with high mortality and morbidity worldwide. However, due to its complex pathological mechanisms and lack of effective clinical therapies, the survival rate of patients after receiving treatment is not satisfactory. A increasing number of studies have focused on cancer stem cells and their regulatory properties.

With the establishment and perfection of social market economy, China has made changes to the disadvantages of farmers' vocational education system, such as singleness, backward educational means, and backward levels. Compared to traditional forms of farming, problems related to lack of farming expertise, poor scientific and technological awareness, and weak labor skills are analyzed by applying big data mining technology to retrieve key issues in order to establish a professional education system. Data mining can meet the needs of farming knowledge and rapidly develop into an automatic information farming model, which is an effective way to maximize and enhance professional knowledge.

miR-6745-TIMP1 axis inhibits cell growth and metastasis in gastric cancer.

Aging (Albany NY)

November 2021

Institute of Biology and Medicine, College of Life and Health Sciences, Wuhan University of Science and Technology, Hubei 430081, P.R. China.

Tissue inhibitor matrix metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP1) has been reported to act as a tumor oncogene in colon cancer. However, little is known about the biological role of TIMP1 in gastric cancer. In this study, we found that the expression of TIMP1 in GC tissues was upregulated compared with the normal gastric tissues.

Computerized cognitive training (CCT) has been found to improve a range of skills such as attention, working memory, inhibition control, and decision making. However, the relationship between the initial performance, amount of improvement, time constant, and asymptotic performance level in CCT is still unclear. In the current study, we performed selective attention training on college students and addressed this issue by mathematically modeling the learning curve with an exponential function.

The current standard for the diagnosis of COVID-19 is the nucleic acid test of SARS-CoV-2 RNA, however, virus antibody detection has the advantages of convenient sample collection, high throughout, and low cost. When combining detection with nucleic acid detection, antibody detection can effectively compensate for nucleic acid detection. Virus infection always induce high antibody titer against SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein (N protein), which can be used to detect COVID-19 at both infected and convalescent patients.

Aim: Immunotherapy shows efficacy in only a subset of melanoma patients. Here, we intended to construct a risk score model to predict melanoma patients' sensitivity to immunotherapy.

Methods: Integration analyses were performed on melanoma patients from high-dimensional public datasets.

Background: Interleukin-33 (IL-33) plays a pivotal role in regulating innate immune response and metabolic homeostasis. However, whether its circulating level is correlated with obesity and metabolic disorders in humans remains largely unknown. We aimed to address this gap by determining IL-33 serum level and its downstream type 2 inflammatory cytokines interleukin-5 (IL-5) and interleukin-13 (IL-13) in overweight/obese population, and analyzing the specific associations between IL-33 and obesity metabolic phenotypes.

Objective: To evaluate the thrombolytic effects of recombinant staphylokinase and compare it with those of recombinant streptokinase.

Methods: Thirty Chinese experimental miniature pigs were divided into five groups, namely, solvent control group, positive drug control group and three recombinant staphylokinase groups, six in each group. The thrombus of coronary artery was formed by surgical thoracotomy and direct current stimulation in anesthetized animals.
