Fuzzy-Based PROMETHEE Method for Performance Ranking of SARS-CoV-2 IgM Antibody Tests.

Diagnostics (Basel)

November 2022

Department of Medical Diagnostic Imaging, College of Health Sciences, Sharjah University, Sharjah 27272, United Arab Emirates.

Antibody tests, widely used as a complementary approach to reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction testing in identifying COVID-19 cases, are used to measure antibodies developed for COVID-19. This study aimed to evaluate the different parameters of the FDA-authorized SARS-CoV-2 IgM antibody tests and to rank them according to their performance levels. In the study, we involved 27 antibody tests, and the analyzes were performed using the fuzzy preference ranking organization method for the enrichment evaluation model, a multi-criteria decision-making model.

Background: Pineal region solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) incorporate a histologic spectrum of rarely metastasizing mesenchymal neoplasms that include tumors formerly classified as hemangiopericytoma.

Case Report: Here, we describe a rare case of SFT of the pineal region in a 25-year-old man with a literature review. After the first surgery, the tumor reappeared as a local low-grade recurrence, followed by metastasis to the right parietal lobe, and then hyperacute intraparenchymal hematoma at the metastatic site, and later presentation of widespread intracranial intra-axial and extra-axial metastases during the follow-up period.

Background: Trauma is one of the common reasons for emergency department (ED) presentations. Specifically, severe-trauma patients often present with mortal complications, including traumatic shock or respiratory or multiorgan failure/dysfunction, and these situations cause high-mortality risk. Scoring systems in the triage of trauma patients can help determine the injury's severity and the patient's prognosis.

The diagnosis of new variants and monitoring their potential effects on diagnosis, therapeutics, and vaccines by genomic sequencing is essential to manage global public crises. In the current study, spike-genome next-generation sequencing was generated from 492 SARS-CoV-2 isolates to evaluate the mutations in Turkey from April 2021 to February 2022. The variant analysis was performed using (Coronavirus Antiviral and Resistance Database (CoV-RDB) by Stanford University).

Department of Neurosurgery, Bahçeşehir University School of Medicine, Göztepe Medical Park Training and Education Hospital, E5 Üzeri Merdivenköy, 23 Nisan Sokagi No:17, 34732, Kadıköy/Istanbul, Turkey.

Aim: To report our experience on giant tumefactive Virchow-Robin spaces (GTVRS) in the frontal lobe and perform a systematic review of previous reports on GTVRS.

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective single-center study reporting the clinical manifestations, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging appearance, differential diagnosis, and management of two patients diagnosed with frontal lobe GTVRS at Bahcesehir University School of Medicine Goztepe Hospital in the past 5 years. A systematic literature search was performed in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases, with case selection criteria including Virchow-Robin spaces (VRS) size greater than 1.

Prolactinoma, as a common endocrine disorder and the most frequent type of pituitary tumor, acts primarily as a suppressor on the gonadal functions. It is generally successfully treated with dopamine agonists; however, treatment resistance still remains in an unneglectable ratio. In this study, we aimed to identify factors, which may play a role in the treatment response.

Objective: Studies have shown that obesity is an independent risk factor for the development of atrial fibrillation (AF). Body Mass Index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) have become accepted indicators of obesity. However, BMI is not sufficient to locate the fat-muscle distribution pattern and the fat-muscle ratio of the body.

Supportive Practice Environments Are Associated With Higher Quality Ratings Among Nurse Practitioners Working in Underserved Areas.

J Nurs Regul

April 2022

Center for Healthcare Delivery Research & Innovations, and the Elise D. Fish Professor of Nursing and Professor of Health Policy and Management, Columbia School of Nursing, New York, New York.

Background: Deployment of nurse practitioners (NPs) to health professional shortage areas (HPSA) may help to address challenges in patient access to care. However, restrictive scope of practice imposed by regulatory and state legislative bodies or unsupportive organizational climates in clinical practice settings may constrain NP care delivery and perpetuate lower assessments of quality of care provided in these underserved communities.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the associations between state NP scope of practice regulations, NP practice environment, and self-reported ratings of quality of care in primary care practices located in HPSAs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to identify factors influencing procalcitonin (PCT) levels and their connection to the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP) in patients.
  • Conducted in Turkey between April 2017 and June 2021, the research involved 214 AP patients and analyzed their PCT and CRP levels within the first 12 hours of admission.
  • Results revealed that higher PCT levels were significantly associated with severe pancreatitis; PCT showed good sensitivity for predicting severity, especially in cases of concurrent infections.
