Article Synopsis
  • Gliomas, particularly glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), are the most common and deadly brain tumors in adults, known for their invasive nature and high mortality.
  • Metastasis in gliomas is influenced by various factors, including metabolic changes, genetic mutations, and the surrounding cancer microenvironment.
  • Recent studies on non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) reveal their significant role in glioma development and metastasis, with specific types like long ncRNAs, microRNAs, and circular RNAs showing dysregulation that promotes tumor spread.

Stains remain the first therapeutic approach in patients with dyslipidemia to control plasma lipids levels and cardiovascular risk. Multiple clinical trials have demonstrated the benefits of statins in reducing major cardiovascular adverse events in primary and secondary prevention. Moreover, in patients with coronary artery disease, statins decrease coronary atherosclerotic plaque volume and composition, inducing atheroma stabilization.

Warfarin is a vitamin K antagonist agent that inhibits clotting factors used for long-term anticoagulation. Time in therapeutic range (TTR) in patients using warfarin is one of the primary treatment effectiveness requirements. We aim to investigate the relationship between serum magnesium levels, the international normalized ratio (INR) values, and TTR values in people using warfarin for various indications.

Dysregulated expression and functions of microRNA-330 in cancers: A potential therapeutic target.

Biomed Pharmacother

February 2022

Research Center for Biochemistry and Nutrition in Metabolic Diseases, Institute for Basic Sciences, Kashan University of Medical Sciences, Kashan, Iran. Electronic address:

As small non-coding RNAs, MicroRNAs (miRNAs) bind to the 3' untranslated region (3'-UTR) of mRNA targets to control gene transcription and translation. The gene of miR-330 has two miRNA products, including miR-330-3p and miR-330-5p, which exhibit anti-tumorigenesis and/or pro-tumorigenesis effects in many kinds of malignancies. In cancers, miR-330-3p and miR-330-5p aberrant expression can influence many malignancy-related processes such as cell proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition, as well as angiogenesis and responsiveness to treatment.

In the last 50 years, there have been great research and developments in the definition and pathophysiology of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), the most progressive form of acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. Although there are various discussions and recommendations, the definition of ARDS is still based on the Berlin 2012 diagnostic criteria. Despite various studies in recent years, there is still no effective pharmacotherapeutic agent for the treatment of ARDS.

Introduction: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is of great importance as it is the most common cause of sudden cardiac death in childhood. The diagnosis is made by the prolongation of the QTc interval on the electrocardiography. However, clinical heterogeneity and nondiagnostic QTc intervals may cause a delay in the diagnosis.

  • Hydatid cyst is a parasitic disease caused by Echinococcus granulosis, with pulmonary artery involvement being rare; the study focused on surgical treatment outcomes for this condition through pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA).
  • Eight patients, mostly young women, were analyzed, with symptoms primarily being exertional dyspnea and some cases of hemoptysis; two patients died from complications, but PEA significantly reduced pulmonary vascular resistance.
  • The study concluded that PEA can effectively diagnose and treat pulmonary arterial hydatidosis, although it should only be performed in specialized centers due to potential high risks of complications.
