Objective: To investigate the effects of low-flow and high-flow anesthesia techniques, administered with sevoflurane during laparoscopic cholecystectomy, on thiol/disulphide homeostasis and serum ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels.

Diagnostic value of plasma lysosphingolipids levels in a Niemann-Pick disease type C patient with transient neonatal cholestasis.

Objectives: Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is a lysosomal storage disease due to impaired intracellular lipid trafficking caused by biallelic pathogenic variants in or genes. NPC is classified according to the age of onset of neurological manifestations. Cholestatic liver disease can be transient or lead to liver failure.

Fluoroscopy-guided balloon dilatation of benign esophageal strictures in children: 11-year experience.

Background: The esophageal stricture is an important clinical problem in children, and the treatment is difficult.

Objective: To evaluate the results of fluoroscopy-guided balloon dilatation of benign pediatric esophageal strictures and to suggest a safety range for balloon diameters.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of children who underwent fluoroscopy-guided esophageal balloon dilatation for treatment of benign esophageal stricture from February 2008 to July 2019.

The effect of limbal autograft location at primary pterygium excision on anterior and posterior corneal astigmatism: a comparative prospective study.

Purpose: The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of limbal autograft location on corneal astigmatism in inferior and superior conjunctival autografted pterygium surgery.

Methods: Patients were divided into 2 groups as diagnosed with primary pterygium and planned to receive surgical treatment. Pterygium surgery was performed on 25 patients with superior and 25 patients with inferior limbal autograft who have similar epidemiologic features.

Uterine preserving technique in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse: Laparoscopic pectopexy.

Objective: Apical prolapse constitutes an important part of pelvic organ prolapse. In this study, our aim was to investigate the effectiveness of laparoscopic pectopexy that we made by preserving the uterus in the surgical treatment of apical prolapse.

Methods: A total of 36 patients with apical prolapse who wanted to preserve their uterus underwent laparoscopic rectopexy.

The Effect of Serum Magnesium Level on Stable Anticoagulation in Patients Using Warfarin for Various Cardiac Indications.

Warfarin is a vitamin K antagonist agent that inhibits clotting factors used for long-term anticoagulation. Time in therapeutic range (TTR) in patients using warfarin is one of the primary treatment effectiveness requirements. We aim to investigate the relationship between serum magnesium levels, the international normalized ratio (INR) values, and TTR values in people using warfarin for various indications.

Dysregulated expression and functions of microRNA-330 in cancers: A potential therapeutic target.

As small non-coding RNAs, MicroRNAs (miRNAs) bind to the 3' untranslated region (3'-UTR) of mRNA targets to control gene transcription and translation. The gene of miR-330 has two miRNA products, including miR-330-3p and miR-330-5p, which exhibit anti-tumorigenesis and/or pro-tumorigenesis effects in many kinds of malignancies. In cancers, miR-330-3p and miR-330-5p aberrant expression can influence many malignancy-related processes such as cell proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition, as well as angiogenesis and responsiveness to treatment.

Current situation in ARDS in the light of recent studies: Classification, epidemiology and pharmacotherapeutics.

In the last 50 years, there have been great research and developments in the definition and pathophysiology of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), the most progressive form of acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. Although there are various discussions and recommendations, the definition of ARDS is still based on the Berlin 2012 diagnostic criteria. Despite various studies in recent years, there is still no effective pharmacotherapeutic agent for the treatment of ARDS.

The usage and outcomes of dextran in the treatment of acute deep venous thrombosis.

Objectives: In this study, we retrospectively compared the outcomes of patients with acute deep vein thrombosis treated with dextran 40 infusion and unfractionated heparin with those of patients treated with unfractionated heparin alone.

Methods: We evaluated 104 patients with the diagnosis of acute deep vein thrombosis. The pain complaints of the patients at the time of admission and the pain complaints in the calf with dorsiflexion of the foot were evaluated with the visual analogue pain scale, and the calf diameter of affected limbs was measured.

Neuroradiological Mimics of Periventricular Leukomalacia.

Aim: Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) is a term reserved to describe white matter injury in the premature brain. In this review article, the authors highlight the common and rare pathologies mimicking the chronic stage of PVL and propose practical clinico-radiological criteria that would aid in diagnosis and management.

Methods And Results: The authors first describe the typical brain MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) features of PVL.

Merkel cell carcinoma in Turkey: A multicentric study.

Background: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare but highly aggressive neuroendocrine carcinoma of the skin. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the clinicopathologic characteristics, treatment outcomes, and survival of MCC cases in Turkey.

Materials And Methods: The patients diagnosed with MCC between 1999 and 2018 at twenty different centers in Turkey were included in the study.

A presystolic wave could easily detect subclinical left ventricular dysfunction in prediabetic patients with no history of hypertension.

Background: Prediabetes is associated with left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic dysfunction. A presystolic wave (PSW) is detected on late diastole from the Doppler examination of the LV outflow tract and is related to LV dysfunction. LV dysfunction could be detected with different echocardiographic methods, including conventional Doppler and Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI), 2D speckle tracking echocardiography, and myocardial performance index (MPI).

Kounis Syndrome: Dexketoprofen-Associated ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction.

Unlabelled: Allergic angina and allergic myocardial infarction are common diseases associated with acute coronary syndromes and encompass a wide spectrum of mast cell activation disorders termed "Kounis Syndrome". We present here a patient with Kounis syndrome presenting with sudden cardiac arrest after intravenous infusion of dexketoprofen in the emergency room.

Learning Points: There are 3 types of Kounis syndrome, of which Type I, allergic coronary vasospasm, is the most common.

Circulating soluble tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-like weak inducer of apoptosis (sTWEAK) is a cytokine that regulates inflammation and insulin resistance in adipose tissue. This study first investigated sTWEAK concentrations in patients OSAS and evaluated associations between sTWEAK concentrations and visceral adiposity, metabolic dysfunction, and hypoxia observed in OSAS.
