Introduction: Primary intraventricular hemorrhage (PIVH) is a rare type of hemorrhagic stroke typically associated with vascular structural abnormalities. However, little is known about the epidemiology and etiology of PIVH caused by non-vascular structural abnormalities. In this study, we aimed to clarify the etiology, clinical characteristics, and prognosis of non-vascular structural-related intraventricular hemorrhage (NVSRIVH).

FOS B cells: Key mediators of immunotherapy resistance in diverse cancer types.

Mol Ther Oncol

December 2024

Department of Oncology, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha 410008, Hunan, China.

While immunotherapy has marked significant advances in cancer treatment, resistance remains a challenge. The complexity of the tumor microenvironment, particularly the role of B cell subpopulations, is a critical factor affecting treatment efficacy. In this study, we conducted analyses of single-cell RNA sequencing data from immunotherapy patients ( = 25) to explore the biomarker of immunotherapy resistance.

Elevated serum lipoprotein(a) levels as a potential risk factor for diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes: a meta-analysis.

Int Ophthalmol

November 2024

Department of Orthopedics, Yueyang People's Hospital, No.263 Baling East Road, Yueyang, 414000, China.

Purpose: This meta-analysis aimed to clarify the correlation between serum lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] levels and diabetic retinopathy (DR) in type 2 diabetes (T2D) individuals.

Methods: We searched electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase, for relevant observational studies evaluating the association between serum Lp(a) levels and the risk of DR. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were summarized to indicate the association between a high Lp(a) and the risk of DR.

  • This study investigated the effectiveness and safety of a new pain medication, QP001, for managing postoperative pain in patients after orthopaedic surgery in China.
  • In a clinical trial with 198 participants, those taking QP001 consumed significantly less morphine for pain relief compared to those receiving a placebo, both at 24 hours and 48 hours post-surgery.
  • QP001 not only reduced the need for opioids but also had fewer adverse drug reactions, indicating it could be a promising alternative for pain management after surgery.

  • The study focused on evaluating how effective transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound (TV-CDU) parameters are in diagnosing cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) and its different types, as well as factors impacting surgical outcomes.
  • A comparison was made between 75 CSP patients and 75 normal pregnant women, measuring cesarean scar muscle thickness, sagittal muscle thickness, and blood flow resistance index to determine diagnostic value.
  • Results showed that CSP patients displayed significantly lower TV-CDU parameters compared to the control group and identified gestational sac size and cesarean scar muscle thickness as key factors influencing treatment effectiveness.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) exhibits significant heterogeneity, impacting immunotherapy efficacy, particularly in immune desert subtypes. Neuromedin U receptor 1 (NMUR1) has been reported to perform a vital function in immunity and inflammation. Through comprehensive multi-omics analyses, we have systematically characterized NMUR1 across various tumors, assessing expression patterns, genetic alterations, prognostic significance, immune infiltration, and pathway associations at both the bulk sequencing and single-cell scales.

LINC00525 enhances ZNF460-regulated CD24 expression through the sponge miR-125a-5p to promote malignant progression of breast cancer.

J Cancer Res Clin Oncol

June 2024

Institute of Biology and Medicine, College of Life and Health Sciences, Wuhan University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, People's Republic of China.

Introduction: CD24 is a highly glycosylated glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchored membrane protein that plays an important role in tumor progression. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of abnormal expression of CD24 on the proliferation, migration and invasion of breast cancer (BC) cells, and the molecular mechanism of regulating CD24 expression in breast cancer.

Methodology: The bioinformatics method was used to predict the expression level of CD24 in BC and its relationship with the occurrence and development of BC.

Urinary SIRT2 Reflects Kidney Injury in Type 2 Diabetes.

Kidney Blood Press Res

July 2024

Department of Nephrology, The Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, China.

Introduction: The early diagnosis of kidney injury in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is important to prevent the long-term damaging effects of kidney loss and is decisive for patient outcomes. While SIRT2 is implicated in diabetes pathogenesis, its correlation with diabetic nephropathy remains unexplored. This study was designed to evaluate the association of urine SIRT2 levels with diabetic kidney injury, as well as potential underlying mechanisms.

This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of FAK-dependent hypoxia-induced proliferation on human pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (HPASMCs). Primary HPASMCs were isolated and cultured in vitro under normal and hypoxia conditions to assess cell proliferation with cell counting kit-8. FAK and mitochondrial transcription termination factor 1 (mTERF1) were silenced with siRNA, mRNA, and protein levels of FAK, mTERF1, and cyclin D1 were determined.
