Methods: The TASL HCV Registry (TACR) is an ongoing nationwide registry program that aims to set up a database and biobank of patients with chronic HCV infection in Taiwan. In this study, data were analyzed as of 31 October 2021 for treatment-naïve HCV patients with compensated cirrhosis receiving 8-week GLE/PIB therapy.

Characterization of hemodialysis fistulas experienced abrupt thrombosis and determination of a proper follow-up protocol: A retrospective cohort study and an interventionist's perspective.

Abrupt thrombosis is a form of thrombosis that occurs unexpectedly and without being preceded by hemodialysis fistula (AVF) dysfunction during dialysis. We found that AVFs with a history of abrupt thrombosis (abtAVF) appeared to have more episodes of thrombosis and required more frequent interventions than those without such history. Therefore, we sought to characterize the abtAVFs and examined our follow-up protocols to determine which one is optimal.

We herein report a case of acute, massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding caused by Yakes type IIb inferior mesenteric arteriovenous malformation, which was successfully treated with endovascular embolization. The Yakes arteriovenous malformation classification provides curative treatment strategies based on specific angioarchitecture, thus serving as a valuable guide during treatment planning. We reviewed reported cases from 1988 to 2022 and conducted an angioarchitecture analysis based on the Yakes classification.

This prospective longitudinal cohort study analyzed long-term changes in individual subscales of quality-of-life (QOL) measures and explored whether these changes were related to effective QOL predictors after hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surgery. All 520 HCC patients in this study had completed QOL surveys before surgery and at 6 months, 2 years, and 5 years after surgery. Generalized estimating equation models were used to compare the 5-year QOL among the three HCC surgical procedures.

Prevalence of oropharyngeal dysphagia and risk of mortality among hospitalized COVID-19 patients: A meta-analysis.

Background: Post-extubation and neurologic complications in COVID-19 patients have been shown to cause oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD). We performed the first meta-analysis to explore and estimate the pooled prevalence of OD, risk of mortality, and associated factors among hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Methods: We searched Scopus, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, WHO COVID-19 database, and Web of Science for literature on dysphagia in COVID-19 patients.

Quantitative Analyses and Validation of Phospholipids and Sphingolipids in Ischemic Rat Brains.

Prior MALDI mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI) studies reported significant changes in phosphatidylcholines (PCs), lysophosphatidylcholines (LPCs), and sphingomyelins (SMs) in ischemic rat brains yet overlooked the information on other classes of PLs and SLs and provided very little or no validation on the detected lipid markers. Relative quantitation of four classes of PLs and two classes of SLs in the ischemic and normal temporal cortex (TCX), parietal cortex (PCX), and striatum (ST) of rats was performed with hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC)-tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) analyses, and the marker lipid species was identified by multivariate data analysis and validated with additional tissue cohorts. The acquired lipid information was sufficient in differentiating individual anatomical regions under different pathological states, identifying region-specific ischemic brain lipid markers and revealing additional PL and SL markers not reported previously.

A low-molecular-weight chitosan fluorometric-based assay for evaluating antiangiogenic drugs.

Low-molecular-weight chitosan (LMWCS) damaged cell membranes in zebrafish showed its possibility to release reporter proteins for detection. In this study, we developed a simple fluorometric-based assay for the evaluation of clinical antiangiogenic drugs using LMWCS and Tg(fli1:EGFP) transgenic zebrafish, which expressed green-fluorescence protein (GFP) in the endothelial cells of blood vessel. In vitro stable and transiently transfected cell lines was released luciferase and green fluorescent protein (GFP) for intensity evaluation upon LMWCS fluorometric-based assay.

Objective: The superiority of segmentectomy over lobectomy with regard to preservation of pulmonary function is controversial. This study aimed to examine changes in pulmonary function after uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) according to the number of resected segments.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 135 consecutive patients who underwent anatomical lung resection via uniportal VATS from April 2015 to December 2020.

Correlation between Cancer Stem Cells, Inflammation and Malignant Transformation in a DEN-Induced Model of Hepatic Carcinogenesis.

Chronic inflammation and cancer stem cells are known risk factors for tumorigenesis. The aetiology of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) involves a multistep pathological process that is characterised by chronic inflammation and hepatocyte damage, but the correlation between HCC, inflammation and cancer stem cells remains unclear. In this study, we examined the role of hepatic progenitor cells in a mouse model of chemical-induced hepatocarcinogenesis to elucidate the relationship between inflammation, malignant transformation and cancer stem cells.

MEITL is the most common PITL in Asia, comprising of monomorphic medium-sized cells typically expressing CD8, CD56, and cytotoxic granules.
