Background: Many practitioners recommend step-up and step-down exercises to increase muscle strength in the lower extremities. However, decreased stability of the hip joint and imbalanced muscle activities can alter limb biomechanics during these movements.

Objective: This study investigated muscle imbalance between the medial and lateral muscle components and between the proximal and distal muscle components by expressing the proportions of muscle activation in the step-up and step-down positions.

Thymosin β4 is associated with bone sialoprotein expression via ERK and Smad3 signaling pathways in MDPC-23 odontoblastic cells.

Int J Mol Med

November 2018

Department of Oral Histology and Developmental Biology, College of Dentistry, Chosun University, Gwangju 61452, Republic of Korea.

Thymosin β4 (Tβ4) regulates the expression of molecules associated with dentinogenesis, including bone sialoprotein (BSP). BSP regulates the initiation of mineralization and the direction of dentin growth. However, the association between Tβ4 signaling and BSP expression in odontoblasts remains unclear.

Thymosin 4 Reduces H₂O₂ Induced Oxidative Stress in MC3T3-E1 Cells on Titanium Surface.

J Nanosci Nanotechnol

February 2018

Department of Oral Histology and Developmental Biology, School of Dentistry, Chosun University, Gwangju, 61452, Korea.

Thymosin β4 (Tβ4) is known to inhibit an inflammatory response and to increase the survival of osteoblasts on titanium (Ti) surfaces. Ti is the most widely used graft material in dentistry; however, an inflammatory response induced following implant placement results in the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The oxidative stress from the production of ROS such as nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can damage surrounding cells, resulting in implant failure by decreasing cell viability.

Type VI secretion system (T6SS) has been discovered in a variety of gram-negative bacteria as a versatile weapon to stimulate the killing of eukaryotic cells or prokaryotic competitors. Type VI secretion effectors (T6SEs) are well known as key virulence factors for important pathogenic bacteria. In many species, T6SS has evolved as the most complicated secretion pathway with distinguished types to translocate diverse T6SEs, suggesting their essential roles in this genus.
