A 58-year-old male with alcoholic liver cirrhosis and a 58-year-old male with diabetes mellitus presented with high fever and urinary retention. Prostatic abscess was diagnosed by a computed tomography scan, which showed fluid collection in the prostate in both patients. Despite systematic antibiotic therapies, urinary retention persisted even after fever diminished.

Purpose: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is a very sensitive diagnostic tool in characterizing liver tumors. It is especially useful in the diagnosis of focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) of the liver. According to the previous reports, FNH is common in young women, and it is usually diagnosed by MRI.

A 51-year-old female had been diagnosed with a hemangioma in the hepatic segment 6 (S6). After a 6-year follow-up, enlargement of the tumor was detected. The tumor was clearly enhanced in the arterial phase, and the enhancement remained in the portal phase on computed tomography (CT).

Background: "Searchlight phenomenon" is an ultrasound artifact that appears as thin, bright, and posteriorly extending lines in the gallbladder lumen. It mimicks the comet-tail artifact, but it does not decrease in intensity in the depth of the view field, unlike the comet-tail artifact.
Purpose: To determine the mechanism of this unpublished ultrasound artifact on the basis of clinical ultrasound images as well as using an in vitro system.

Objective: Many recent studies have indicated that depression and anxiety are more common in asthmatic patients than in the general population and psychological stress can lead to asthma exacerbations, but no study specifically targets cough variant asthma (CVA) patients. The purpose of this study was to evaluate depression and anxiety levels in CVA patients compared with classic asthma patients and to identify the psychological features of CVA patients.
Methods: Fifty-nine outpatients with CVA and 128 outpatients with classic asthma were interviewed about psychosomatic and psychiatric symptoms, and they underwent three psychological tests: Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and Comprehensive Asthma Inventory (CAI).

Gallbladder (GB) perforation is a very rare posttraumatic abdominal injury. It is potentially life-threatening, and good outcome requires early diagnosis. We present a case of isolated posttraumatic GB perforation in which the precise sonographic (US) diagnosis led us to apply proper management.

We report two cases of spontaneous bladder rupture. Preoperative diagnosis was difficult and the correct diagnosis was made at surgery. Reviewing the initial abdominopelvic CT of our second patient, the bladder wall defect and blood attenuation near the bladder were observed.

Unlabelled: Aims/Introduction: To clarify clinical characteristics related to optimal glycemic control achieved after adding once-daily pre-dinner biphasic insulin aspart 70/30 (BIAsp 30) in Japanese type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients with oral antidiabetic drug (OAD) failure.
Materials And Methods: Under this regimen, we evaluated changes in HbA1c levels and daily self-monitoring blood glucose (BG) profiles, as well as the incidences of hypoglycemia and retinopathy progression. The patients adjusted BIAsp 30 dosages themselves every 3-4 days according to a pre-determined algorithm to achieve fasting BG levels of 101-120 mg/dL.

Purpose: Faint moving echoes are occasionally encountered in large hepatic cysts, as an example of range-ambiguity artifacts. The aim of this article is to describe the pattern of these intracystic mobile echoes, to analyze the mechanism of their formation, and to discuss options to clear them.
Methods: We analyzed the size and location of the hepatic cysts, the movement of the artifactual echoes, and the relationship between pulse repetition frequency (PRF) and the depth of these intracystic mobile echoes in 10 cases.

We report herein a case of spontaneous perforation of pyometra leading to diffuse peritonitis. This pathological condition is rare, and preoperative diagnosis is difficult. We were able to make the correct diagnosis preoperatively using contrast-enhanced abdominopelvic computed tomography.

A balanced translocation involving 11q23 (MLL gene) could be observed in therapy related leukemia (TRL) patients generally treated with topoisomerase II inhibitors. Few reports have been published on TRL following docetaxel administration. Herein, we report a patient who developed acute myelomonocytic leukemia (AMMoL) with t (9; 11) (p22; q23) following chemotherapy mainly consisted of docetaxel for advanced prostatic carcinoma.

A 30-year-old woman, who had a type I neurofibromatosis, visited our hospital with a complaint of left flank pain. Computed tomography revealed a heterogenous solid mass, 12 x 7 x 6 cm in diameter, in the anterior renal region, which was suspected to be a benign retroperitoneal tumor. We performed laparoscopic resection of the tumor because of persisting left flank pain.

We present a case of gallbladder hernia into the foramen of Winslow. During the diagnosis of hernia, ultrasonography, computed tomography and intravenous computed tomography, cholangiography of the abdomen were performed. Ultrasonography detected gallstone, but did not provide sufficient information to diagnose gallbladder hernia.

We present a case of liver metastasis from an uterine leiomyosarcoma in which contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) helped determine the bleeding point and prevented a delay in devising diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. CEUS allowed us to differentiate active from nonactive bleeding on the basis of presence or absence of contrast extravasation in the ascites. CEUS is the first examination performed when liver tumor rupture is suspected.

We report a case of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) complicated by a malignant triton tumor (MTT), with an emphasis on B-mode sonographic (US) and contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) findings. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report describing CEUS findings of MTT. The mass was poorly demarcated and composed of an internal echogenic area and an outer hypoechoic zone.

Intracystic slow bleeding is very difficult to diagnose using conventional sonography; consequently, a new sonographic technique has been sought. We present a histologically proven hepatobiliary cystadenoma with intracystic bleeding in which contrast-enhanced sonography (CEUS) showed microbubbles oozing from the cyst wall into the cystic cavity 10 minutes after intravenous injection of contrast medium. CEUS is an important diagnostic tool for diagnosing liver tumors, but the CEUS finding of slow intracystic bleeding has not been reported.

Intracystic bleeding is a relatively rare complication of hepatic cysts, which is very difficult to diagnose by conventional sonography (US). Hence, a new US technique has been sought for this purpose. We present the case of a hepatic cyst with intracystic bleeding in which contrast-enhanced US showed microbubbles oozing from the cyst wall into the cystic cavity.

An intussusception can easily occur in patients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS), and its early detection is crucial. We present a PJS patient in whom sonography (US) helped in detecting intussusception at a time when there was only a very vague symptom and provided successful conservative treatment. Close clinical and US follow-up of PJS patients should improve management of this condition.

A septum between the abductor pollicis longus tendon and the extensor pollicis brevis (EPB) tendon in the first extensor compartment is frequently encountered during surgical treatment of de Quervain's disease. It was hypothesized that de Quervain's disease was secondary to EPB entrapment and the decision was made to decompress only the EPB subcompartment. Twenty-two patients were treated with this method.
