Background: Statins bring favourable effects on the clinical prognosis of patients with atherosclerotic disease partly through their anti-inflammatory properties. However, this effect has not been fully verified in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). We aimed to test whether statins exert different prognostic effects depending on the degrees of inflammation in patients with PAD.

Aim: Gastric cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortalities worldwide. According to the pathological TNM classification, T3N0M0, Stage IIA gastric cancer has been excluded from the S-1 adjuvant chemotherapy trials. Thus, the clinical impact of S-1 adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with pathological T3N0M0 cancer and the associated prognostic factors have not been elucidated.

Primary intracranial sarcoma (PIS) is a rare and aggressive pediatric brain tumor, which is partially associated with DICER1 mutant. Although the molecular genetic characteristics of this tumor have previously been investigated, novel therapeutic targets remain unclear. Further, the lack of faithful preclinical models has hampered the development of novel therapeutic strategies.

Aims: Several algorithms can differentiate inferior axis premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) originating from the right side and left side on 12-lead electrocardiograms (ECGs). However, it is unclear whether distinguishing the origin should rely solely on PVC or incorporate sinus rhythm (SR). We compared the dual-rhythm model (incorporating both SR and PVC) to the PVC model (using PVC alone) and quantified the contribution of each ECG lead in predicting the PVC origin for each cardiac rotation.

Objective: Serum C-reactive protein (CRP), as a reflection of early brain injury at onset, is a prognostic factor in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). However, in some severe cases, patients exhibit a good prognosis despite their elevated serum CRP level. Therefore, we examined the relationship between serum CRP transitions in the acute phase of aSAH and the prognosis.

Background: Despite the possible occurrence of spontaneous movements during an apnea test, respiratory-like movements are rare.
Case Presentation: A 51-year-old man was transferred to our hospital when a sudden disturbance of consciousness developed into cardiac arrest. After spontaneous circulation returned, we diagnosed bilateral cerebellar hemorrhage.

Background: Postoperative airway obstruction after anterior cervical spine surgery (ACSS) can be a fatal complication. Occasionally, it rapidly progresses to complete obstruction. There are no established standardized protocols on how medical staff should assess for signs and symptoms, seek help, or facilitate airway management after ACSS to prevent unfavorable events.

We report a case of an aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) originating in a rib. A 34-year-old woman was admitted to our medical department for evaluation of left rib pain and an abnormal shadow in the left 7th rib observed on chest radiography. Computed tomography (CT) revealed an osteolytic lesion involving the left 7th rib.

Hemorrhagic changes in a dural arteriovenous fistula are typically associated with cortical venous reflux and occur as intracerebral or subarachnoid hemorrhages. A convexity dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) usually flows directly into the cortical veins and exhibits cortical venous reflux. Herein, we report a rare case of a convexity DAVF without cortical venous reflux presenting with a pure acute subdural hematoma.

There are no clear criteria for selecting elderly patients with hematologic malignancies eligible for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). This study aimed to evaluate inflammatory and nutritional status biomarkers as prognostic indicators of allogeneic HSCT in elderly patients. We compared the prognostic effects of 4 representative pretransplantation biomarkers: C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR), Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR).

Subgaleal hematoma, characterised by blood accumulation between the galea aponeurosis and the periosteum, is rarely reported in adults. A man with liver cirrhosis experienced airway obstruction secondary to an extensive subgaleal hematoma due to superficial temporal artery injuries. Within 6 hours after injury, swelling of the patient's head and neck was noted, which was associating with inspiratory wheezing and paradoxical breathing, thus necessitating emergency intubation.

Aim: C-reactive protein (CRP) is both an inflammatory and prognostic marker in various cancers. This study aimed to elucidate the characteristics of CRP and the prognostic factors in patients who were administered with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab (ATZ + BEV) for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: A total of 213 patients who received ATZ + BEV for HCC from November 2020 to March 2023 at 15 hospitals were enrolled in this retrospective study.
