Objectives: We evaluated the efficacy and safety of cyanoacrylate closure (CAC) for endovascular treatment of varicose veins with cyanoacrylate adhesive (VenaSeal® closure system) in Japan.
Methods: A multicenter prospective consecutive registry study was conducted at 12 centers in Japan on 125 patients with primary varicose veins who underwent CAC. The patients were evaluated on target vein occlusion, postoperative complications, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain, revised Venous Clinical Severity Score (rVCSS), Aberdeen Varicose Vein Questionnaire (AVVQ), and EuroQol 5 dimensions 5-level (EQ-5D-5L) for 1-year after the surgery.
We report a case of a patient with necrotizing fasciitis and septic shock caused by streptococcal toxic shock syndrome, who was anesthetized and managed with remimazolam. The patient, a woman in her 40s, was admitted to the ICU with a diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis of the right lower extremity and septic shock and was scheduled for above-the-knee amputation under general anesthesia. She was anesthetized with remimazolam for sedation and fentanyl and remifentanil for analgesia.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the use of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) and to examine the number of oral medicines based on the swallowing function and activities of daily living (ADL) categories in a geriatric medical care ward.
Methods: A prospective investigation of oral medication use of 124 consecutive patients (male, n=58; female, n=66) admitted to a geriatric medical care ward was conducted from November 2019 to October 2020. Nutritional routes and ADL categories were quantitatively assessed, and the respective medication quantities were subjected to a statistical analysis.

Purpose: To evaluate the computed tomography findings of intersigmoid hernias.
Material And Methods: Between April 2010 and March 2018, 7 patients who were surgically diagnosed with intersigmoid hernia in 3 institutions were enrolled in this study. Two radiologists evaluated imaging findings for the herniated small bowel, the distance between the occlusion point and bifurcation of the left common iliac artery, and the anatomic relationship with adjacent organs.

Introduction: Several studies have reported that needlescopic appendectomy (NA) is a safe and effective procedure for appendicitis because of reduced trocar wounds and tissue trauma. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of NA in young patients under 40 years of age whose cosmesis matters with appendicitis by comparing it to conventional laparoscopic appendectomy (CLA).
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed our database looking for patients under 40 years of age diagnosed with appendicitis who underwent NA or CLA from January 2013 to April 2017.
Background: Endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute large vessel occlusion has proven to be effective in randomized controlled trials. We conducted a prospective cohort study to evaluate the real-world efficacy of EVT in a metropolitan area with a large number of comprehensive stroke centers and to compare it with the results of other registries and randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
Methods: We analyzed the Kanagawa Intravenous and Endovascular Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke registry, a prospective, multicenter observational study of patients treated by EVT and/or intravenous tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA).

While endovenous thermal ablation (ETA) become first choice of treatment for varicose veins, overuse of ETA for the inappropriate indication is growing problem. ETA is performed not only on varicose cases without symptom but also non diseased cases with segmental reflux of saphenous veins or no reflux. Indications of ETA was demonstrated in "the Clinical Practice Guidelines for ETA for Varicose Veins 2019" by Japanese Society of Phlebology.

Factor XII (FXII) deficiency is a rare coagulation disorder, and its potential relationship with venous thrombosis was reported. Here we present a case of a 67-year-old woman with FXII deficiency who successfully underwent endovenous thermal ablation (ETA) for primary varicose vein due to the incompetent great saphenous vein (GSV). The FXII deficiency was revealed through preoperative examinations, and the patient underwent ETA as a day surgery.

Background: Gastric hypomotility (GH) is a possible complication of catheter ablation (CA) for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, it is unclear which factors are associated with GH. We sought to elucidate the relationship between the CA procedure and GH.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLiquid biopsy is a non-invasive tool to examine the genetic profile of tumors by identification of mutated circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), which is often analyzed by next generation sequencing (NGS) or droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) assay. We first examined the ctDNA mutation in pre-operative plasma samples obtained from 154 colorectal cancer (CRC) and 46 gastric cancer (GC) patients, using the NGS-based panel assay. The overall detection rate of mutated ctDNA was 72.

Background: We previously showed that pretreatment with intratracheal delivery (ITD) of alloantigen induced prolonged cardiac allograft survival and generated regulatory T cells (Tregs) in mice. In this study, we examined the role of splenic dendritic cells (DCs) in the ITD model.
Methods: CBA mice were treated with ITD from C57BL/10 splenocytes and 7 days later received transplantation of C57BL/10 hearts.

Aims: The present study aimed to examine the feasibility of detecting vimentin (VIM) methylation in the serum of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) and to determine the effectiveness of a relatively simple, inexpensive, and non-invasive test performed in combination with the conventional carcinoembryonic antigen analysis.
Materials And Methods: VIM methylation in the serum DNA of 242 patients with CRC was measured by a quantitative methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction.
Results: A significantly higher positive rate was obtained for VIM methylation than for carcinoembryonic antigen or carbohydrate antigen 19-9 in stage 0, I, and II patients.

Aim: To find occult metastases during hepatectomy in patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRCLM), contrast-enhanced intraoperative ultrasonography (CE-IOUS) was performed using a new microbubble agent, sonazoid, which provides a parenchyma-specific contrast image based on its accumulation in the Kupffer cells.
Methods: Eight patients with CRCLM underwent CE-IOUS using sonazoid before hepatectomy. The liver was investigated during a late Kupffer-phase imaging, which is a valuable characteristic of sonazoid.

Defects in the dome of the right diaphragm are a rarity among diaphragmatic abnormalities. Here we report the case of an elderly man who presented with an intrathoracic nodular opacity adjacent to the right diaphragm on chest radiographs. A radionuclide liver scan and maximum intensity projection (MIP) images of a computed tomographic (CT) scan together yielded a diagnosis of diaphragmatic defect with herniation of liver tissue.

Spherical pneumonia, which is seen more frequently in children than in adults, is usually manifested as a solitary nodule. We report the case of a middle-aged man with small spherical pneumonia, with multiple distribution in the right lung, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. This type of pneumonia is very unusual and should be included in the differential diagnosis of multiple nodular densities of the lung.
