Background: Cell division cycle 42 (CDC42) modulates the pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis (AR) through regulating immunity, allergic response, and T-helper (Th)1/Th2 imbalance. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of CDC42 to reflect disease risk, symptom scores, and Th1/Th2 axis of AR and the correlation of its vertical change with symptom amelioration after treatment.

Methods: CDC42, Th1 cells, and Th2 cells in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and interferon-γ and interleukin-4 in the serum were determined in 200 AR patients.

Recent studies suggest that children born via cesarean section (CS) are predisposed to immune-mediated diseases later in life. The association between CS and childhood leukemia was investigated in this meta-analysis of observational studies. Two researchers independently searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library for literature on the association between CS and childhood leukemia before February 2022.

Despite the significant progress in decreasing the occurrence and mortality of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), it remains a public health issue worldwide on the basis of its late presentation and tumor recurrence. To date, apart from surgical interventions, such as surgical resection, liver transplantation and locoregional ablation, current standard antitumor protocols include conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy. However, due to the high chemoresistance nature, most current therapeutic agents show dismal outcomes for this refractory malignancy, leading to disease relapse.

Background: LncRNAs are closely related to cutaneous melanoma (CM) tumorigenesis and metastasis, and it can affect the progression of CM by regulating cell proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis, and other cellular mechanisms. This study investigated the role of LINC00665 in CM.

Methods: Expressions of LINC00665, miR-339-3p, and tubulin beta chain (TUBB) in CM cells were analyzed by qRT-PCR and/or Western blot.

Objective: To explore the curative effect of prebiotics/probiotics preparations combined with zoledronic acid + calcitriol regimen on patients with primary osteoporosis (POP) and the influences of prebiotics/probiotics preparations combined with zoledronic acid + calcitriol regimen on markers of bone metabolism.

Methods: 126 elderly hospitalized patients with POP in our hospital from January 2020 to December 2021 were divided into the control group ( = 63) and the observation group ( = 63) by the random number table method. The patients in the control group were treated with zoledronic acid and calcitriol, while the patients in the observation group were additionally treated with prebiotics/probiotics preparations.

Background: With a progressive increase in the aging process, the challenges posed by pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) are also increasing for the elderly population.

Objective: This study aimed to identify the epidemiological distribution of PTB among the elderly, forecast the achievement of the World Health Organization's 2025 goal in this specific group, and predict further advancement of PTB in the eastern area of China.

Methods: All notified active PTB cases aged ≥65 years from Zhejiang Province were screened and analyzed.

Background And Objective: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a manifestation of the metabolic syndrome in the liver, and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) represents its advanced stage. Bicyclol has protective activity against NAFLD in mice; however, the effect of bicyclol on high-fat diet (HFD)-induced NASH and its underlying molecular mechanism remains unknown particularly anti-endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and autophagic machinery potentials. Therefore, the present study was performed to investigate the protective effect and underlying mechanisms of bicyclol action on NAFLD/NASH.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic disease characterized by the excessive accumulation of hepatocyte fat and steatosis in the absence of alcohol or any other clear contributing factors to liver injury. NAFLD has been confirmed to be closely associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. Genetic polymorphism studies have shown the relations between the apolipoprotein A5 gene (APOA5) and NAFLD.

The Anion Gap and Mortality in Critically Ill Patients with Hip Fractures.

Contrast Media Mol Imaging

July 2022

Department of Orthopedics, Ningbo Yinzhou No. 2 Hospital, Ningbo 315100, Zhejiang, China.

Objectives: Epidemiological evidence suggests that anion gap (AG) has been reported to serve as an independent predictor for mortality in different diseases. We studied the effect of AG on both short and long-term mortalities in critically ill patients with hip fracture.

Methods: A large clinical database was utilized to perform retrospective cohort analysis.

The objective of this prospective multi-center head-to-head clinical randomized comparative trail (RCT) is to compare PCa detection rate in the TRUS-guided 12-core standard systematic biopsy (TRUS-SB) group and cognitive fused mpMRI-guided 12-core biopsy (mpMRI) group against AIUSP group.

Methods: Four hundred patients were randomized to three arms and underwent biopsies by TRUS-SB (n = 133), mpMRI (n = 134), and AIUSP (n = 133) between January 2015 and December 2017.

Background: The tumor microenvironment (TME) is closely related to clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) prognosis, and immunotherapy response. In current study, comprehensive bio-informative analysis was adopted to construct a TME-related lncRNA signature for immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and targeted drug responses in ccRCC patients.

Methods: The TME mRNAs were screened following the immune and stromal scores with the data from GSE15641, GSE29609, GSE36895, GSE46699, GSE53757, and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC).

Article Synopsis
  • Ampullary adenocarcinoma (AAC) is a type of cancer that starts where the pancreas and bile ducts meet, and it can be classified into two main types.
  • Researchers wanted to figure out the specific origin of one type, called pancreatobiliary-type AAC, by studying images of the tumors and genetic data.
  • They found that this type behaves more like pancreatic cancer, and patients treated with drugs meant for pancreatic cancer had better survival than those treated with drugs meant for another type of cancer called cholangiocarcinoma.

Background: With the use of immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), whether ICIs or chemotherapy is more effective still remains controversial. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of programmed cell death 1 (PD-1), programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1), cytotoxic T-lymphocyte protein 4 (CTLA-4) alone or in their combination vs chemotherapy in patients with advanced or metastatic NSCLC.

Methods: This meta-analysis was conducted from PubMed, Web of Science, Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane Library up to March 2021 to identify relevant randomized controlled trials.

Background: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) are widely used in the treatment of coronary heart disease, but the best revascularization method for multivessel coronary artery disease (MVD) patients is still controversial. Hybrid coronary revascularization (HCR), together with CABG and PCI, have been proved to be feasible methods, but the long-term effect of HCR is not as clear as CABG.

Method: By October 2020, we retrieved articles from PubMed, Web of science, EMBASE and Cochrane library databases.

Severe nitrogen oxide poisoning can lead to life-threatening pulmonary injury. we report two cases of severe nitrogen-oxide-induced hypoxia treated with veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). After exposure, the conditions of both patients continued to deteriorate despite maximal mechanical ventilation with a fraction of inspired oxygen of 100%; therefore, we started veno-venous ECMO.
