Shared reading: Parental attitudes, practices and barriers in Turkey.

Aim: Understanding the nature of parent-child shared reading (SR) practices is important to reach children's developmental potential and subsequent achievement. We evaluated the parental attitudes and practices, associated variables and barriers related to SR.

Methods: This prospective study enrolled 624 parents of children aged 1-72 months who presented to a tertiary hospital for well-child care or acute minor illness.

The disease severity ranges from asymptomatic carrier state to severe neonatal presentation with hyperammonaemic encephalopathy. We audited the diagnosis and management of OTCD, using an online 12-question-survey that was sent to 75 metabolic centres in Turkey, France and the UK.

The association between total cholesterol and cognitive impairment in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients.

Aim: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is primarily a respiratory system disorder associated with extrapulmonary conditions. Cognitive impairment (CoI) is very common among COPD patients This study sought to investigate the association between CoI and clinical parameters, inflammatory markers and lipid profiles in a COPD patient population.

A unique case of a newborn with a hemangioma on the omphalocele sac.

Background: Mass lesions of the umbilical cord are rare anomalies. There have been rare reports of hemangiomas of the umbilical cord, but the co-occurrence of omphalocele and hemangioma of the umbilical cord has not been previously reported. Nonetheless, the condition is clinically significant as it may cause the disturbance of intrauterine fetal circulation, retardation of fetal growth and development, non-immune hydrops fetalis, morbidity and mortality.

Decreased antioxidant capacity with serum native thiol and total thiol levels in children with hemophilia A: a prospective case-control study.

Background: Experimental studies have addressed the role of oxidant stress in the pathogenesis of Hemophilia A. This study aimed to determine whether dynamic thiol-disulfide exchange, a recently recognized cellular defense system against oxidative stress, is disturbed in children with hemophilia A.

Methods: This prospective case control study included male children with hemophilia A (n=62) and randomly selected healthy age and sex-matched controls (n=62).

Preliminary validation of the Turkish version of the pain catastrophizing scale for children and parents (PCS-C and PCS-P) in primary childhood headache.

Objectives: The aims of this study were to translate the pain catastrophizing scale for children and parents (PCS-C and PCS-P) into Turkish (TurPCS-C and TurPCS-P) and evaluate the psychometric properties in children with primary headache.

Methods: Exploratory factor analysis was used to test the construct validity. Reliability was measured using item-total score correlation, internal consistency (Cronbach α coefficient), Cronbach α if the item was deleted, and test-retest correlation.

The effect of biacromial and bideltoid distance on shoulder dystocia and birth weight in newborns.

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between neonatal biacromial and bideltoid diameter (BDD), birth weight and shoulder dystocia (SD).

Material And Methods: This was a prospective observational study conducted on 161 pregnancies who applied to Private Lokman Hekim Hospital for follow-up between February 2021 and August 2021. Maternal height, weight, parity, and presence of SD in the second stage of labor were evaluated in the patients included in the study.

Clinical outcomes of cyclin-dependent kinase 4-6 (CDK 4-6) inhibitors in patients with male breast cancer: A multicenter study.

Background: Since breast cancer is less common in men than in women, data on the use of new therapeutic agents, including cyclin-dependent kinase 4-6 (CDK 4-6) inhibitors, are limited in patients with metastatic hormone receptor positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) male breast cancer. Therefore; we aimed to investigate the treatment responses of metastatic HR+, HER2-male breast cancer patients treated with CDK 4-6 inhibitors in a multicenter real-life cohort.

Methods: Male patients with a diagnosis of HR+ and HER2-metastatic breast cancer, treated with any CDK 4-6 inhibitor, were included in the study.

Fixation of the neglected subcutaneous osteochondral fragment of large medial femoral condyle defect in adult male: A case report.

Knee osteochondral fractures are among the most common orthopaedic injuries, and their diagnosis and treatment is always open to debate among orthopaedic surgeons. In this case report, we described the surgical treatment and 2 years of follow-up of an adult male patient who underwent delayed osteochondral fixation with an iliac graft. A medial parapatellar incision was made to perform open reduction and internal fixation.

Comparison of clinical and radiological characteristics of COVID-19 patients with and without pneumothorax and/or pneumediastinum.

Introduction: Pneumothorax (PTX) and pneumomediastinum (PM) are frequently encountered in patients with Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and complicate the management of these patients. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the risk factors that cause PTX/PM complications in patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 pneumonia and the effects of these complications on the course of the disease.

Materials And Methods: A total of 503 patients with COVID-19 hospitalized in the COVID-19 ward or intensive care unit (ICU) between September 2020 and December 2020 were included in the study.

Re-examining the characteristics of pediatric multiple sclerosis in the era of antibody-associated demyelinating syndromes.

Background: The discovery of anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG)-IgG and anti-aquaporin 4 (AQP4)-IgG and the observation on certain patients previously diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) actually have an antibody-mediated disease mandated re-evaluation of pediatric MS series.

Aim: To describe the characteristics of recent pediatric MS cases by age groups and compare with the cohort established before 2015.

Aim: This study aimed to identify patient characteristics, treatment patterns and outcomes and to evaluate the effects of presence of comorbidities at diagnosis in chronic phase (CP)-chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients in Turkey.

Materials & Methods: Hospital records between 2005 and 2018 were retrospectively reviewed.

Results: Of 861 CP-CML patients included, 31% had at least one comorbidity at diagnosis.

Along with the high transmission rate of coronavirus disease 2019 infection in the last few months, the morbidity and mortality rate of coronavirus disease 2019 has been increased among critically-ill patients, especially the elderly or the ones with immunodeficiencies. So, there is an urgent need to develop more effective therapeutic agents through immunopathophysiological and immunotherapeutic-based strategies for these patients. Here, we hypothesize that mixing S1b-RBD-expressing mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (which have been previously enriched with Remdesivir) with 47D11 antibody, can promisingly guarantee effective transferring of those targeted exosomes to the targeted microenvironment of coronavirus disease 2019 infection.

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus Overshadowed by Traumatic and Degenerative Spinal Diseases: A New Assessment Proposal.

Aim: Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a rare disorder among the elderly, characterized by gait disorder, dementia, and urinary incontinence. Considering the rareness of NPH and a lot of other pathologies, such as Parkinson's disease, lumbar spinal stenosis, and even aging cause similar symptoms, NPH is an underdiagnosed entity. However, the percentage of misdiagnosis is not given in the literature.

Machine learning algorithms revealed distorted retinal vascular branching in individuals with bipolar disorder.

Background: Converging evidence designate vascular vulnerability in bipolar disorder. The predisposition progresses into distortion in time, thus detection of the vascular susceptibility may help reducing morbidity and mortality. Validity and reliability of the full cup test in patients with chronic low back pain.

Objectives: This study aims to determine the validity and reliability of the full cup test (FCT), evaluating the pain severity in patients with chronic low back pain.

Methods: A total of 100 patients (70 women and 30 men) aged over 18 years with mechanical low back pain were enrolled in the study. Demographic and clinical characteristics were recorded.

Real-world data on efficacy and safety of first-line alectinib treatment in advanced-stage, ALK-positive non-small-cell lung cancer patients: a Turkish Oncology Group study.

In this multicenter study, the authors aimed to determine the real-life efficacy and safety of first-line alectinib. This retrospective trial included advanced-stage, ALK-positive non-small-cell lung cancer patients who were treated with first-line alectinib in terms of ALK-tyrosine kinase inhibitors, regardless of previous chemotherapy. The co-primary end points were progression-free survival both for all patients and for the treatment-naive population.

Intestinal microbiota composition of children with infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C).

Unlabelled: Microbiota composition may play a role in the development, prognosis, or post-infection of COVID-19. There are studies evaluating the microbiota composition at the time of diagnosis and during the course of COVID-19, especially in adults, while studies in children are limited and no study available in children with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). This study was planned to compare intestinal microbiota composition in children diagnosed with MIS-C and acute COVID-19 infection with healthy children.

Approaches of 112 ambulance service staffers to children with burns: A survey assessment.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the knowledge of 112 ambulance service staffers (doctors, nurses, emergency medical technicians [EMTs], and paramedics [PMs]) who were the first intervention to pediatric patients with burn injuries regarding first intervention and patient transfer.

Methods: The study included 373 personnel working in 112 ambulance services in Ankara province. Participants were asked 17 questions to measure their knowledge of burns in children.

Analysis of risk factors of mortality for pediatric burned patients with inhalation injury and comparison of different treatment protocols.

Background: We present our approach of pediatric burned patients with the suspicion of inhalation injury.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on children with the suspicion of inhalation injury admitted to our burn center from December 2009 to December 2019. We collected data on patient demographics, total burn surface area (TBSA), presence of inhalation injury, level of carboxyhemoglobin, grade of inhalation injury, duration of mechanical ventilation, reintubation rate, total length of hospital stay, and the mortality rate.

Modified Proline Metabolism and Prolidase Enzyme in COVID-19.

Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate proline metabolism in patients affected by COVID-19.

Materials And Methods: This case-control study consisted of 116 patients with COVID-19 and 46 healthy individuals. Tests related to proline metabolism (prolidase, proline, hydroxyproline, glutamic acid, manganese) and copper and zinc tests were analyzed.

Anatomical considerations and clinical implications of bicipital aponeurosis: A magnetic resonance imaging study.

The bicipital aponeurosis (BA) is the distal aponeurosis of the biceps brachii which usually covers the median nerve (MN), and the brachial artery (BrA) and sometimes causes compression of these structures. Since these situations are rarely reported in the literature, BA frequently does not come to mind as a cause of such compression. Therefore, the diagnosis may be delayed.
