Article Synopsis
  • Inflammation is crucial in heart changes after a heart attack (MI), and the monocyte to high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (MHR) ratio is being studied as a marker of this inflammation.
  • A study of 231 patients showed that a higher MHR (greater than 1.6) at hospital admission significantly predicts adverse cardiac remodeling (AR) and increases the risk of mortality, with 23.8% of patients showing AR after 6 months.
  • The findings suggest that measuring MHR upon admission can help identify patients at higher risk for heart failure and death after a heart attack.

This study aimed to investigate the benefit of changing the pharmaceutical preparation of colchicine in Turkish Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) patients resistant to one preparation in terms of frequency of the attacks. Turkish adult FMF patients under treatment with an imported colchicine preparation-in the form of compressed tablet form-due to resistance to domestic colchicine preparations, which are film- or sugar-coated tablets, and not using anti-interleukin-1 or other biologic agents were included in the study. Baseline disease characteristics along with MEFV mutations were identified.

Background/aims: The hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is important cause of chronic hepatitis. Liver biopsy is considered the gold standard for assessment of fibrosis but this procedure is an invasive procedure. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of non-invasive serum biomarkers, separately and in combinations, on liver fibrosis in treatment-naive chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients.

We compared the efficacy and safety of low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWHs) in patients with cancer who are at low risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Patients were treated by medical oncologists in Turkey at 15 sites, where they were enrolled and followed up for a period of 12 months. Due to the study design, there was no specific treatment protocol for LMWH.

Headache is one of the most common causes of presentation to the physician in children. We aimed to evaluate the dynamic thiol/disulfide homeostasis with a new method in children with headache and also to investigate the relationship between the headache type, pain severity and duration in our study. We included 40 patients diagnosed with migraine, 40 patients diagnosed with tension-type headache (TTH) and 40 healthy children in the study.

Background: Experimental research using laboratory animals provides substantial data about reconstructive surgery. However, the literature does not include any experimental studies that have used flap models on the hind limbs of rats. To gain an understanding of the physiology of lower-extremity flaps and of flap failures, this study assessed the cutaneous perforators of the saphenous artery, and new flap models were designed for the hind limbs of rats.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effects of an interscalene brachial plexus block using bupivacaine or levobupivacaine along with general anesthesia on desflurane consumption in patients undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery.
  • The research involved 60 patients, who were randomly assigned to receive either general anesthesia alone or in combination with one of the two blocks, measuring various recovery and pain-related outcomes.
  • Results showed that both bupivacaine and levobupivacaine groups used less desflurane compared to the general anesthesia-only group, leading to quicker recovery times and better pain management post-surgery.
