Aims: To explore rare and difficult cases of undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of the liver (UESL) in children in a single centre, summarize the diagnosis and treatment experience and analyse the role of a computer-assisted surgery system (Hisense CAS), thus providing a new global vision and three-dimensional perspective.

Methods: We retrospectively collected the clinical data including the diagnoses and treatment processes, of children with UESL confirmed by histopathological examination in our hospital from January 2009 to December 2020. The relationship between the tumour volume and important blood vessels and between the liver volume and tumour volume, as well as other three-dimensional characteristics in the reconstructed three-dimensional model were analysed using Hisense CAS.

Tumor microenvironment ameliorative and adaptive nanoparticles with photothermal-to-photodynamic switch for cancer phototherapy.

Biomaterials

February 2025

State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Luminescence from Molecular Aggregates, School of Materials Science and Engineering, AIE Institute, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, 510640, China. Electronic address:

The notorious tumor microenvironment (TME) usually becomes more deteriorative during phototherapeutic progress that hampers the antitumor efficacy. To overcome this issue, we herein report the ameliorative and adaptive nanoparticles (TPASIC-PFH@PLGA NPs) that simultaneously reverse hypoxia TME and switch photoactivities from photothermal-dominated state to photodynamic-dominated state to maximize phototherapeutic effect. TPASIC-PFH@PLGA NPs are designed by incorporating oxygen-rich liquid perfluorohexane (PFH) into the intraparticle microenvironment to regulate the intramolecular motions of AIE photosensitizer TPASIC.

The important role of the nuclear factor κB (NFκB) pathway in tumour development has long been recognized; however, the role of the NFκB inhibitor family in liver cancer has not been elucidated. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a serious public health burden with a high incidence, poor prognosis, and early detection, especially in Asia, where hepatitis is prevalent. In the present study, the mRNA expression level of the NFκB inhibitor family was assessed in HCC and normal tissues using the Metabolic Gene Rapid Visualizer, University of Alabama at Birmingham Cancer Data Analysis Portal, and the Tumor Immune Estimation Resource database (TIMER).

Drug resistance is common in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) therapy. To identify a method to overcome chemotherapy resistance in TNBC cells, an siRNA targeting the AXL gene (siAXL), which can overcome drug resistance, was used in this study. A nanodelivery system was constructed to co-deliver siAXL and paclitaxel (PTX).

Article Synopsis
  • - This study examines how variations in the CYP3A5 gene affect blood levels of tacrolimus, an important immunosuppressant used after stem cell transplantation, focusing on patients who underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT).
  • - Results showed that patients with the CYP3A5*3/*3 genotype had higher initial tacrolimus blood concentrations compared to those with CYP3A5*1/*3 or CYP3A5*1/*1 genotypes, impacting their dosage efficiency.
  • - Additionally, the study found that patients with the CYP3A5*1/*1 genotype had a significantly higher incidence of acute graft versus host disease (GVHD) compared to those

October 2024

Centre of Research Excellence in Translating Nutritional Science to Good Health, Adelaide Medical School, The University of Adelaide, Adelaide, Australia.

Aim: To examine the associations of tea consumption (both frequency and type) with (1) prediabetes and diabetes and (2) urinary glucose and sodium excretion in Chinese community-dwelling adults.

Materials And Methods: In 1923 participants (457 with diabetes, 720 with prediabetes, and 746 with normoglycaemia), the frequency (occasional, frequent, daily, or nil) and type (green, black, dark, or other) of tea consumption were assessed using a standardized questionnaire. Morning spot urinary glucose and urine glucose-to-creatinine ratios (UGCRs) were assessed as markers of urinary glucose excretion.

NIR-Absorbing Tetraphenylethene-Containing bisBODIPY Nanoplatforms Demonstrate Effective Lysosome-Targeting and Combinational Phototherapy.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

August 2024

The Key Laboratory of Functional Molecular Solids, Ministry of Education; Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Biomedical Materials and Chemical Measurement, School of Chemistry and Materials Science, Anhui Normal University, Wuhu 241002, China.

Photosensitizer-based phototherapies, including photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT), offer safe treatment modalities for tumor ablation with spatiotemporal precision. After photons are absorbed, PDT creates localized chemical damage by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS), while PTT induces localized thermal damage. However, PDT still faces hypoxic tumor challenges, while PTT encounters issues related to heat resistance and potential overheating.
