Recombinant oncolytic adenovirus offers a novel and promising cancer treatment approach, but its standalone efficacy remains limited. This study investigates a combination treatment strategy by co-administering recombinant oncolytic Adv-loaded silk hydrogel with a PD-L1 inhibitor for patients with bladder cancer to enhance treatment outcomes. Bladder cancer tissues from mice were collected and subjected to single-cell sequencing, identifying CRB3 as a key gene in malignant cells.

In recent years, continuous exploration worldwide has revealed that some metabolites produced during cellular and tissue metabolism can act as signalling molecules to exert different effects on the human body. These metabolites may act as cofactors for proteases or as post-translational modifications linked to proteins. Lactate, a traditional metabolite, is found at high levels in the tumour microenvironment (TME).

Department of General Surgery, Tongji Medical College, Wuhan Children's Hospital (Wuhan Maternal and Child Healthcare Hospital, Huazhong University of Science & Technology, 100 Hong Kong Road, Jiangan District, Wuhan City, 430000, Hubei Province, China.

Backgroud: Intussusception is a common acute abdominal disease in children, often leading to acute ileus in infants and young children.

Objective: This study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram for predicting recurrent intussusception in children within 48 h after pneumatic reduction of primary intussusception.

Methods: Clinical data of children with acute intussusception admitted to multiple hospitals from March 2019 to March 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a widespread infectious disease with high mortality. Hence, identifying valuable biomarkers for detecting the early changes in SFTS is crucial. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the difference in hematocrit (HCT) and serum albumin (ALB) levels (HCT-ALB) and the prognosis of patients with SFTS virus infection.

Importance: Recurrence remains a challenge after ablation of outflow tract premature ventricular contractions (OT-PVCs). Although adding additional lesions next to the index effective ablation site is sometimes performed to reinforce the ablation, it remains uncertain whether this approach is effective.

Objective: To test the hypothesis that additional ablation lesions would reduce the recurrence rate compared with single-point ablation at the index effective site for the ablation of OT-PVCs.

Rationale And Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of integrating clinical data and quantitative CT parameters with machine learning techniques in forecasting the short-term outcomes of severe COVID-19 in elderly patients.

Materials And Methods: In this retrospective study, we analyzed the clinical profiles and chest quantitative CT parameters of 239 elderly patients with severe COVID-19 admitted for treatment. The cohort included 61 deceased patients (death group) and 178 who recovered and were discharged (survival group).

Background/aims: Osteosarcoma is a prevalent and aggressive primary malignant bone tumor affecting children and adolescents. Despite advancements in sequencing technologies, there remains a lack of reliable prognostic biomarkers and effective targeted therapies for osteosarcoma. This study focuses on identifying key prognostic genes, particularly the role of GNAS, in osteosarcoma progression.

Background And Purpose: The composite score for insulin resistance (IR), known as the Metabolic Score of Insulin Resistance (METS-IR), serves as an assessment tool for IR and has been previously linked to symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage and poor functional outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Despite these associations, the impact of METS-IR on early neurological deterioration (END) in patients with minor AIS who underwent intravenous administration of recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator (IV-rtPA) remains inadequately established. This investigation explored the link between METS-IR and END in patients with minor AIS receiving IV-rtPA treatment.

Inflammation induces tumor formation and plays a crucial role in tumor progression and prognosis. KCNK6, by regulating K(+) efflux to reduce NLRP3 Inflammasome-induced lung injury, relaxes the aorta. This study aims to elucidate the effects and biological mechanism of KCNK6 in inflammation-associated carcinogenesis, which may be essential for colon homeostasis and the defense system.

Background: Thoracoscopic anatomical segmentectomy is increasingly recognized for managing early-stage lung cancer. However accurately identifying intersegmental planes (ISPs), especially in complex lung segments, remains challenging. In comparison to conventional methods, fluorescence imaging represents a novel solution.

Brivaracetam (BRV) is a new third-generation antiseizure medication for the treatment of focal epileptic seizures. Its use has been increasing among epileptic populations in recent years, but pharmacokinetic (PK) behavior may change in hepatic impairment and the elderly populations. Due to ethical constraints, clinical trials are difficult to conduct and data are limited.

Background: Endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) is the primary treatment for esophageal variceal bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis (LC). Postoperative rebleeding is a complication of EVL, contributing to over 20% of bleeding-related deaths. This study aims to examine the association between platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and rebleeding within 6 weeks after EVL in patients with LC.

Research Center of Health Big Data Mining and Applications, School of Medical Information, Wannan Medical College, Wuhu, Anhui, China. Electronic address:

Background And Aims: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most prevalent cancer globally, posing a significant challenge due to its high rate of metastasis. Approximately 20% of patients with CRC present with distant metastases at diagnosis, and over 50% develop metastases within five years. Accurate prediction of metastasis is crucial for improving survival outcomes in patients with CRC.

Repair of annulus fibrosus defects using decellularized annulus fibrosus matrix/chitosan hybrid hydrogels.

J Orthop Surg Res

September 2024

Department of Spine Surgery, Yijishan Hospital of Wannan Medical College, No. 2 Zheshan West Road, Wuhu, Anhui, 241001, China.

Degenerative disc disease is the leading cause of lower back and leg pain, considerably impacting daily life and incurring substantial medical expenses for those affected. The development of annulus fibrosus tissue engineering offers hope for treating this condition. However, the current annulus fibrosus tissue engineering scaffolds fail to accurately mimic the natural biological environment of the annulus fibrosus, resulting in limited secretion of extracellular matrix produced by the seeded cells and poor biomechanical properties of the constructed biomimetic annulus fibrosus tissue.

Introduction: Lamotrigine (LTG) is an antiepileptic drug that has been used in pediatric epilepsy as a combination therapy or monotherapy after stabilization in recent years. However, there are significant drug-drug interactions (DDI) between LTG and combined drugs such as carbamazepine (CBZ) and valproic acid (VPA). It is particularly important to consider the risk of DDI in combination therapy for intractable epilepsy in pediatric patients.
