Discov Oncol

January 2025

Spinal Surgery Department, the Fourth People's Hospital of Jinan, No.50 Normal Road, Tianqiao District, Jinan, 250031, Shandong, China.

Background: It is known that genomic instability contributes to cancer development. Mitotically associated long non-coding RNA (MANCR) has been reported to promote genomic stability, suggesting its involvement in cancers. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the role of MANCR in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Objectives: Ischaemic stroke (IS) has become a major health problem globally as it is one of the leading causes of long-term disability and death. This study aimed to evaluate the association between red cell distribution width (RDW) to lymphocyte (LYM) ratio (RLR) and 30-day mortality risk in patients with IS.

Methods: The present study employed a retrospectively cohort study design with the adult data extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-III, MIMIC-IV) databases between 2001 and 2019.

Behcet's disease is a rare, chronic inflammatory disorder that can affect various organs, with large vessel involvement being particularly uncommon. This case report discusses a 17-year-old male with Behcet's disease who presented with a rapidly enlarging, painful mass in the right groin region, later diagnosed as a femoral artery aneurysm. The patient underwent successful surgical intervention and was subsequently managed with immunosuppressive therapy to prevent relapse.

Periodontitis and diabetes mellitus are two prevalent chronic diseases that have been recognized to exhibit a bidirectional relationship. Individuals with diabetes are more susceptible to periodontitis, and conversely, periodontitis can exacerbate glycemic control in diabetic patients. The underlying mechanisms of this interrelationship involve complex pathways, including inflammatory responses, altered immune functions, and microbial dysbiosis.

Pathological neuropathic pain is a common complication following spinal cord injury. Due to its high incidence, prolonged duration, tenacity, and limited therapeutic efficacy, it has garnered increasing attention from both basic researchers and clinicians. The pathogenesis of neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury is multifaceted, involving factors such as structural and functional alterations of the central nervous system, pain signal transduction, and inflammatory effects, posing significant challenges to clinical management.

In this editorial, we comment on the article by Liu . Based on our analysis of a case report, we consider that early screening and recognition of primary nasal tuberculosis are crucial for patients undergoing treatment with tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi). While TNFi therapy increases the risk of reactivating latent tuberculosis, primary nasal tuberculosis remains rare due to the protective mechanisms of the nasal mucosa.

Article Synopsis
  • Solid organ transplantation (SOT) recipients face increased infection risks due to ongoing use of immunosuppressive drugs, and these risks vary by organ type and other factors.
  • The most commonly transplanted organ is the kidney, followed by the liver, heart, and lung; each has different rates and types of post-transplant infections, including bacterial, fungal, and viral.
  • The review aims to analyze the epidemiology of infections across different SOTs and seeks to improve patient care by developing tailored prevention strategies to enhance the quality of life for transplant recipients.

Background: With the application of PCR testing and Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing(mNGS), the detection rate of causative organisms in paediatric bone and joint infections has been greatly improved. The aim of our study is to identify some indicators that could be used to distinguish the culture results to optimize the use of PCR and mNGS.

Methods: In this study, a total of 117 cases of acute osteomyelitis of long bones in children who underwent pus culture were included.

The influence of patient experience and patient trust on willingness to see a doctor based on SOR theory.

BMC Health Serv Res

October 2024

School of Management, Shandong Second Medical University, No. 7166 Baotong West Street, Weicheng District, Weifang City, Shandong, China.

Background: Improving patients' experience, enhancing patients' trust and improving the willingness to see a doctor are the key to the real implementation of the "gatekeeper" role of residents' health in township health centers. At present, in the field of health management, the research on the relationship between the three is relatively limited. The purpose of this study is to explore the current situation of patients' experience, patients' trust and willingness to see a doctor in township health centers, and further explore the relationship between the three, so as to provide a theoretical basis for improving the overall service and management quality of township health centers.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how well the Node Reporting and Data System (Node-RADS) works alongside CT radiomics in diagnosing nonenlarged regional lymph nodes in gastric cancer patients.
  • Researchers analyzed preoperative CT images from 376 patients, extracting various radiomics features to create a predictive model using machine learning, which showed improved accuracy compared to models without radiomics data.
  • The findings indicated that combining radiomics with Node-RADS significantly enhanced diagnostic performance, especially in lymph nodes measuring 4-7.9 mm, although the combination did not provide significant improvement for those in the 8-9.9 mm range.

Tumour immunotherapy represented by immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has greatly improved the overall prognosis of patients with malignant tumours, and is regarded as an important breakthrough in the field of medicine in recent years. ICIs have gradually become the core of tumour therapy and are increasingly used in the clinic. In order to achieve early clinical prediction and management of immune-related adverse events (irAEs), it is still necessary to perform further research on the mechanisms, risk factors, and predictors of irAE occurrence in the future.
