Obesity is the one of the most important components of metabolic syndrome. Because obesity related hypertension accounts for two thirds of essential hypertension, managing obesity and metabolic syndrome is a crucial task in the management of hypertension. However, the current non-pharmacological therapies have limitations for achieving or maintaining ideal body weight.

Testicular pain (TP) after laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) is a relatively underreported complication. This study aimed to investigate the incidence, characteristics, and factors associated with ipsilateral TP after left-sided LDN. This study prospectively collected baseline data and surgical details for all patients who underwent left-sided LDN during the study period.

Local ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a non-surgical option that directly targets and destroys tumor cells, has advanced significantly since the 1990s. Therapies with different energy sources, such as radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, and cryoablation, employ different mechanisms to induce tumor necrosis. The precision, safety, and effectiveness of these therapies have increased with advances in guiding technologies and device improvements.

Objectives: This study aimed to identify the specific vaccine strain associated with herpes zoster (HZ) in children following a series of diagnosed cases and to explore whether differences in single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) among various vaccine strains are linked to an increased incidence of herpes zoster after vaccination.
Methods: From February 2021 to March 2024, children <12 years old suspected of vaccine-related varicella-like rash or HZ were included. Varicella zoster virus DNA isolated from the patients were sequenced to differentiate vaccine type versus wild-type.

Background: Breathlessness shares aging mechanisms with frailty and sarcopenia.
Research Question: Are frailty and sarcopenia associated with breathlessness itself?
Study Design And Methods: We analyzed data from a population-based, prospective cohort study of 780 community-dwelling older adults. Breathlessness was defined using the modified Medical Research Council dyspnea scale (≥ 2 points) and the COPD Assessment Test (≥ 10 points).

: Anterior sacroiliac fracture dislocation (ASFD), also known as locked pelvis, is a rarely reported diagnosis. The types of ASFDs are often misdiagnosed as lateral compression fractures due to the presence of crescent fractures. In this study, we distinguished ASFD from lateral compression fractures (LC 2) and studied their characteristics.

Backgruound: The relationship between circulating lipid levels and the risk for heart failure (HF) is controversial. We aimed to examine this association, and whether it is modified by the duration of diabetes or treatment regimens in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Methods: Individuals (n=2,439,978) who underwent health examinations in 2015 to 2016 were identified from the Korean National Health Information Database.

Conventional open laminectomy has long been considered one of the important surgical options for lumbar central stenosis owing to its positive outcomes. However, newer approaches have emerged as alternatives, including full-endoscopic and biportal endoscopic laminectomy. Therefore, a comparison of the outcomes that are associated with each of these surgical methods is warranted.

Background/aims: Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is a public health concern. ALD patients often have psychiatric comorbidities, but the effects of psychiatric interventions on ALD are not well-established. This study explores the prognostic impact of psychiatric intervention on ALD within UK Biobank cohort.

Introduction: Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTCL), a non-Hodgkin lymphoma, is known for its destructive local impact on nasal structures and systemic induction of inflammatory cytokines. Concurrent treatment with radiation and nonanthracycline- based chemotherapy has improved survival rates in patients with localized disease stages. However, survival outcomes vary significantly in advanced-stage and relapsed or refractory (R/R) cases.

Background: This study aims to investigate the trend of doctor shopping among patients with rotator cuff tear (RCT) before undergoing surgery and to examine the relevance of these findings to the public.
Methods: A survey was conducted of 326 patients from 10 hospitals (male, 176; female, 150) who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) for symptomatic RCT between September 2019 and February 2020. A questionnaire was used to obtain data regarding the type of medical care service, medical institutions visited before surgery, number of treatments received, and cost of treatment.

Despite the growing interest in precision medicine-based therapies for Alzheimer's disease (AD), little research has been conducted on how individual AD risk factors influence changes in cognitive function following transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). This study evaluates the cognitive effects of sequential tDCS on 63 mild cognitive impairment (MCI) patients, considering AD risk factors such as amyloid-beta deposition, APOE ε4, BDNF polymorphism, and sex. Using both frequentist and Bayesian methods, we assessed the interaction of tDCS with these risk factors on cognitive performance.

Background: Recent evidences showed that resection of lung tumor post-targeted therapy has shown progression-free survival (PFS) benefits in initially unresectable patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate pathologic findings of resected lung tumor samples in patients who have undergone prior epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment, and also to assess the prognostic factors related to outcomes after resection.
Methods: The deidentified data of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients admitted to seven university hospitals affiliated with the Catholic University of Korea were obtained from the Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW) database.

Background: Several studies have found that the absolute lymphocyte (ALC) or neutrophil count predicts the survival of patients with solid tumors, and that the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and the prognostic nutritional index are useful markers of gastric cancer prognosis. However, it remains unclear whether the ALC is prognostic of lymph node (LN) metastasis in patients with gastric cancer. In this study, we aimed to explore the impact of ALC on prognosis and distinctive clinical characteristics in patients with gastric cancer.

This study proposed an optimized histogel construction method for histological analysis by applying lung cancer patient-derived organoids (PDOs) to the developed histo-pillar strip. Previously, there is the cultured PDOs damage problem during the histogel construction due to forced detachment of the Matrigel spots from the 96-well plate bottom. To address this issue, we cultured PDO on the proposed Histo-pillar strips and then immersed them in 4% paraformaldehyde fixation solution to self-isolate PDO without damage.

Genetic testing is recommended for all patients with pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGL) to establish genotype-phenotype associations. We investigated germline mutations in 59 patients with PPGL at six Korean university hospitals using next-generation sequencing (NGS) targeting 38 PPGL-associated genes, including those recommended by the Korean PPGL Task Force. Germline mutations were identified in 13 patients (22%), and affected four genes: , , , and .
