Case Rep Ophthalmol

April 2024

Department of Ophthalmology, CHA Bundang Medical Center, CHA University, Seongnam, Republic of Korea.

Introduction: Given the recent additions of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) to various cancer treatments, adverse effects, especially involving the eyes, have been on the rise. Here, we report an acute exacerbation of cancer-associated retinopathy (CAR) triggered by durvalumab treatment of small-cell lung cancer (SCLC).

Case Presentation: An 81-year-old Asian male complained of a scotoma in the left eye after durvalumab administration, to treat SCLC.

Background: About 3%-5% of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) presents positive anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK). Recently, several target agents have been approved as a treatment for ALK-positive NSCLC. This study aimed to analyze the real-world efficacy and outcome when administered crizotinib, the first approved target agent for ALK-positive NSCLC, according to first- or late-line treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how effective direct swallowing training (DST) and its combination with oral sensorimotor stimulation (OSMS) were in improving oral feeding abilities in very preterm infants who were previously dependent on tube feeding.
  • Conducted as a randomized controlled trial in a South Korean neonatal intensive care unit, the trial included preterm infants born at less than 32 weeks gestation and measured the time taken for them to begin independent oral feeding (IOF).
  • Results showed that the combination of DST and OSMS significantly reduced the time to reach IOF compared to the control group, while DST alone did not show any notable benefits, indicating that combining these two interventions may enhance feeding capabilities in very preterm infants.

Ann Rehabil Med

June 2021

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Seongnam, Korea.

Objective: The incidence of hip fractures is increasing worldwide with the aging population, causing a challenge to healthcare systems due to the associated morbidities and high risk of mortality. After hip fractures in frail geriatric patients, existing comorbidities worsen and new complications are prone to occur. Comprehensive rehabilitation is essential for promoting physical function recovery and minimizing complications, which can be achieved through a multidisciplinary approach.

Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, The Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine, Catholic University of Korea Yeouido Saint Mary's Hospital, Seoul 06591, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Background And Objective: Glaucoma is one of the major diseases that cause blindness, which is incurable and irreversible, and it is essential to detect glaucoma vision deficits in treatment and check the progression of vision disorders in advance. In order to minimize the risk of glaucoma, it is necessary not only to diagnose and observe glaucoma but also to predict prognosis via indicators from Visual Field (VF) tests. However, information from the VF test cannot be directly used in clinical studies because most medical institutions store VF test sheets in Portable Document Format (PDF) or image files in different standards.

Recently non-Vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOAC) is replacing warfarin for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). However, the role of NOAC after thrombolysis of acute iliofeomral DVT (IFDVT) is not yet defined. This randomized clinical trial aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of rivaroxaban versus warfarin after catheter directed thrombolysis of an IFDVT.

Long-term outcome of anterior thalamic nucleus stimulation for intractable epilepsy.

Stereotact Funct Neurosurg

May 2013

Department of Neurosurgery, College of Medicine, Yeouido Saint Mary's Hospital, Catholic University of Korea, Seoul, South Korea.

Background: Many patients with epilepsy have persistent seizures despite treatment with maximal antiepileptic drug therapy and are not candidates for resective brain surgery.

Objectives: We investigated the effectiveness of seizure reduction after anterior thalamic nucleus (ATN) stimulation in patients with intractable epilepsy undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the thalamus.

Methods: Patients included in this study had poorly controlled seizures, despite anticonvulsant medication, and were not candidates for surgical resection of an identifiable seizure focus.
