Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between headaches and idiopathic/genetic epilepsy (I/GE) in patients aged 6-40 years, focusing on headache prevalence and characteristics among these individuals.
  • Out of 809 patients, 62.8% reported headaches, with 87.4% experiencing interictal headaches and 41.2% having migraines; the analysis identified distinct clusters based on headache and epilepsy features for both adults and children/adolescents.
  • Two primary clusters emerged: one included patients with a family history of headaches and specific seizure types (like juvenile myoclonic epilepsy), while the other contained patients with different characteristics, including those with self-limited epilepsy and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. *

The vertebral endplate and cortical shell play an important structural role and contribute to the overall strength of the vertebral body, are at highest risk of initial failure, and are involved in degenerative disease of the spine. The ability to accurately measure the thickness of these structures is therefore important, even if difficult due to relatively low resolution clinical imaging. We posit that digital tomosynthesis (DTS) may be a suitable imaging modality for measurement of endplate and cortical shell thickness owing to the ability to reconstruct multiplanar images with good spatial resolution at low radiation dose.

August 2022

Department of Pediatric Nephrology, Faculty of Medicine, Hacettepe University, Sihhiye, 06100, Ankara, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed 25 genetically confirmed cases of PLCε1-related kidney disease to explore the clinical spectrum, genotype-phenotype correlations, and treatment impacts on kidney outcomes.
  • 36% of patients presented with isolated proteinuria, while others had nephrotic syndrome or chronic kidney disease, with significant variations in histopathology results among those biopsied.
  • The findings suggest that while genetic variations do not correlate with clinical presentations, the type of kidney condition and histological features significantly influence prognosis and treatment responses.
