Objectives: MEGDHEL [3-methylglutaconic aciduria (MEG), deafness (D), hepatopathy (H), encephalopathy (E), and Leigh-like disease (L)] syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the serine active site-containing protein 1 () gene. MEGDHEL syndrome is clinically characterized by sensorineural hearing loss, encephalopathy, hepatopathy, 3-methylglutaconic aciduria, and Leigh-like lesions on cranial magnetic resonance imaging. During the neonatal period, it has been reported to present with hypoglycemia, hyperammonemia, impaired liver functions, cholestasis, metabolic acidosis, and sepsis-like clinical findings.

Hypertension, as a primary risk factor for many fatal disorders, is prevalent in the elderly. There is wide literature on hypertension dealing with its biological and/or biochemical aspects; however, limited research is available on the multifactorial nature of hypertension from a mechanobiological standpoint. This study intended to study in parallel histopathological alterations and deviated protein expressions with the mechanical behavior of the hypertensive tissues.

Spontaneous rectus sheath hematoma in three patients with COVID-19: Computed tomography findings.

The pulmonary symptoms secondary to severe acute respiratory syndrome in coronavirus (COVID-19) infections are the most common presentation for the disease; however, it is now known that in a small portion of patients, severe hemorrhagic complications can also be seen. In this report, three cases of elderly women with known COVID-19 infection, developing spontaneous rectus sheath hematoma on anticoagulation therapy, are presented. Three cases presented above emphasize the need to perform a computed tomography examination after a sudden hemodynamic deterioration and a decrease in hemoglobin count in COVID-19 patients in intensive care units (ICUs).

Comparison of thyroid surgery experiences of "East" and "West" regions in Turkiye.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the differences between the types of thyroidectomy surgeries and surgical treatment approaches according to thyroid pathology results, in Turkiye's two non-endemic regions.

Methods: Two different centers of the country, which differ in many respects and are non-endemic for thyroidal diseases were included in the study. Data on patients from both sexes, who underwent thyroidectomy in the western (1 center) and the eastern (2 center) regions between 2011 and 2017 have been reviewed.

MRI diagnosed cardiac lipoma in tuberous sclerosis: a case report with a very rare association.

Tuberous sclerosis is a genetic multisystem disorder characterised by hamartomas in several organs. Cardiac rhabdomyomas are the main features of the disease but lipomas can very rarely be associated. Herein, we present a very rare association of tuberous sclerosis and cardiac lipoma detected by echocardiography and diagnosed as a lipoma via MRI and fat suppression technic, aim to report this very rare association, and emphasise usefulness of MRI in cardiac mass lesions.

Thymoquinone improves motility, plasma membrane integrity and DNA integrity of frozen-thawed ram semen.

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of thymoquinone (TQ), which is the most essential active compound of Nigella sativa, on the spermatological parameters of ram semen during cryopreservation. Ejaculates were collected from five Sonmez rams using an artificial vagina and extended with Tris-based extender not containing TQ (control, 0 μg/ml TQ) and containing 10, 25, 50 and 100 μg/ml TQ. The extended semen samples were equilibrated in a + 4°C cold cabinet for 2 h.

Assessment of the Relation Between Craniofacial Tissue Profile-Morphology and Dermatoglyphics.

This study aims to evaluate the relationship between the convexity angle of facial tissue and fingerprint types by analyzing the connection between dermatoglyphic prints and facial structure. A total of 65 adults (24 females, 41 males) participated in the study. Each participant's fingerprint was analyzed using conventional methods of observation upon the index finger of the dominant hand.

How has the COVID-19 pandemic changed the diagnosis of rectus sheath hematoma and its follow-up?

Background: There has been an increased incidence of rectus sheath hematoma (RSH) due to chronic cough attacks and anti-coagulant therapy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study aims to determine, in which parameters differ before and during the diagnosis of RSH in COVID-19 patients and what may be expected during diagnosis and follow-up.

Methods: Thirty-five patients diagnosed with RSH were evaluated retrospectively between March 2016 and March 2021.

Evaluation of macular microvascular structure with optical coherence tomography angiography in children with history of treatment for retinopathy of prematurity.

Purpose: To compare macula vascular parameters in optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) of children with history of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) who were treated with laser photocoagulation (LPC) or intravitreal Bevacizumab therapy.

Methods: Forty eyes of 28 ROP children treated with LPC and 36 eyes of 22 ROP children treated with intravitreal Bevacizumab and 40 eyes of 40 age-gender matched term children were included the study. Capillary plexus densities in macula, FAZ parameters, outer retina and choriocapillaris flow rates, and central foveal thickness were measured.

The Risk of T2DM in College Women: The Predictive Power of Financial versus Residential Status in a Cross-Sectional Pilot Study in Turkey.

This study aimed to investigate the relationships between dietary habits, income levels and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) risk in Turkish female university students who are living with their family or in the dormitory. This work was a cross-sectional pilot study conducted during December 2016-January 2017 in Istanbul Yeni Yuzyıl University. A survey was administered to 100 female students, 60 living with their family and 40 in dormitories.
