Boron nitride nanotubes for gene silencing.

Background: Non-viral gene delivery is increasingly investigated as an alternative to viral vectors due to low toxicity and immunogenicity, easy preparation, tissue specificity, and ability to transfer larger sizes of genes.

Methods: In this study, boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) are functionalized with oligonucleotides (oligo-BNNTs). The morpholinos complementary to the oligonucleotides attached to the BNNTs (morpholino/oligo-BNNTs) are hybridized to silence the luciferase gene.

Simultaneous analysis of miRNA-mRNA in human meningiomas by integrating transcriptome: A relationship between PTX3 and miR-29c.

Background: Although meningioma is a common disease, there is a lack of understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms behind its initiation and progression. We used combined miRNA-mRNA transcriptome analysis to discover dysregulated genes and networks in meningiomas.

Methods: Fourteen fresh-frozen meningioma samples and one human meningeal cell line were analyzed by using miRNA and whole transcriptome microarray chips.

Systemic endothelial function measured by flow-mediated dilation is impaired in patients with urolithiasis.

Some in vitro and animal studies have shown endothelial dysfunction in hyperoxaluria models indicating its role in pathogenesis of urolithiasis and relation to CVD. The aim of this study was to investigate endothelial function in patients with urolithiasis in relation to urinary stone risk factors and metabolic parameters. A total of 120 subjects without any known CVD (60 with urolithiasis and 60 healthy subjects) were included into study.

Treatment of a major depression episode suppresses markers of bone turnover in premenopausal women.

But the effect of antidepressant treatment on markers of bone turnover is not studied. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of treatment of a major depressive episode with an SSRI antidepressant on bone turnover in premenopausal women.

Window anterior commissure relaxation laryngoplasty in the management of high-pitched voice disorders.

Objective: To present the success rate of a less invasive modification of Isshiki type III anterior commissure relaxation laryngoplasty technique in patients with high-pitched voice disorders.

Design: Prospective case series.
