Effects of Balance and Strength Training for Ankle Proprioception in People with Chronic Ankle Instability: A Randomized Controlled Study.

Background: After an ankle sprain, the ligament and joint capsule are damaged, and as a result, proprioceptive sense is damaged, causing a feeling of giving away in the ankle and resulting in recurrent sprains. Given the relevant studies, it has been seen that people with chronic ankle instability (CAI) commonly have deficits in joint position sense and reinjury risks. Joint position sense plays an important role in ankle control, thereby reducing the risk of injury.

Routine CSF parameters as predictors of disease course in multiple sclerosis: an MSBase cohort study.

Background: It remains unclear whether routine cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) parameters can serve as predictors of multiple sclerosis (MS) disease course.

Methods: This large-scale cohort study included persons with MS with CSF data documented in the MSBase registry. CSF parameters to predict time to reach confirmed Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) scores 4, 6 and 7 and annualised relapse rate in the first 2 years after diagnosis (ARR2) were assessed using (cox) regression analysis.

Background: Prostate cancer (PC) is the most common type of cancer in elderly men, with a positive correlation with age. As resistance to treatment has developed, particularly in the progressive stage of the disease and in the presence of microfocal multiple bone metastases, new generation radionuclide therapies have emerged. Recently, [Tb], a radiolanthanide introduced for treating micrometastatic foci, has shown great promise for treating prostate cancer.

Validation of a Finite Element Model for Clinical and Virtual Evaluation of the Changes in Airway Dimensions Following Class III Bimaxillary Orthognathic Surgery.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate pharyngeal airway changes in adult skeletal Class III cases whose bimaxillary surgical treatments were planned with different amounts of maxillary and mandibular movement using lateral cephalometric radiographs and finite element analysis (FEA). Our null hypothesis was that bimaxillary orthognathic surgery in which maxillary forward movement (MF) is greater than mandibular backward movement (MB) will result in more expansion of the pharyngeal airway.

Materials And Methods: A total of 31 individuals (11 females, 20 males) with class III skeletal deformity were included in the study.

Comparative differences between T1a/b and T1e/m as substages in T1 urothelial carcinoma of the bladder.

Objective: To evaluate the prognostic value of the depth of lamina propria invasion in patients with T1 bladder cancer and to display comparative differences between the T1a/b and T1e/m substaging systems.

Patients And Methods: This study included 106 patients with primary stage T1 urothelial bladder tumours who underwent surgery between January 2009 and December 2014. Pathologic specimens were re-evaluated to confirm the diagnosis of T1 and substaging by the same pathologist using two systems: T1a and T1b, and T1m and T1e.

Boron nitride nanotubes for gene silencing.

Background: Non-viral gene delivery is increasingly investigated as an alternative to viral vectors due to low toxicity and immunogenicity, easy preparation, tissue specificity, and ability to transfer larger sizes of genes.

Methods: In this study, boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) are functionalized with oligonucleotides (oligo-BNNTs). The morpholinos complementary to the oligonucleotides attached to the BNNTs (morpholino/oligo-BNNTs) are hybridized to silence the luciferase gene.

Simultaneous analysis of miRNA-mRNA in human meningiomas by integrating transcriptome: A relationship between PTX3 and miR-29c.

Background: Although meningioma is a common disease, there is a lack of understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms behind its initiation and progression. We used combined miRNA-mRNA transcriptome analysis to discover dysregulated genes and networks in meningiomas.

Methods: Fourteen fresh-frozen meningioma samples and one human meningeal cell line were analyzed by using miRNA and whole transcriptome microarray chips.

Criteria sets for primary Sjogren's syndrome are not adequate for those presenting with extraglandular organ involvements as their dominant clinical features.

Patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) may go undiagnosed or be misclassified due to the insidious nature and wide spectrum of the disease. The available several classification criteria emphasize glandular findings. We aimed to analyze the efficiency of various classification criteria sets in patients diagnosed on the clinical basis by expert opinion and to compare those pSS patients who fulfilled these criteria with those who did not.

Systemic endothelial function measured by flow-mediated dilation is impaired in patients with urolithiasis.

Some in vitro and animal studies have shown endothelial dysfunction in hyperoxaluria models indicating its role in pathogenesis of urolithiasis and relation to CVD. The aim of this study was to investigate endothelial function in patients with urolithiasis in relation to urinary stone risk factors and metabolic parameters. A total of 120 subjects without any known CVD (60 with urolithiasis and 60 healthy subjects) were included into study.

Treatment of a major depression episode suppresses markers of bone turnover in premenopausal women.

But the effect of antidepressant treatment on markers of bone turnover is not studied. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of treatment of a major depressive episode with an SSRI antidepressant on bone turnover in premenopausal women.

Detection of jaw and root fractures using cone beam computed tomography: a case report.

The aim of this case report is to demonstrate jaw and root fractures using a combination of cone beam CT (CBCT), CT and conventional radiographs. In this presentation a 23-year-old female patient who was referred to our dental clinic with a severe facial trauma is reported. The patient was initially examined by a general dentist and a fracture in the mandibular right canine region was diagnosed on the CT images.

Visante anterior segment OCT in a patient with gas bubbles in the anterior chamber after femtosecond laser corneal flap formation.

A patient with anterior chamber gas bubbles after LASIK flap formation with femtosecond laser is presented. A 33-year-old male patient had LASIK for myopia with corneal flap formation with IntraLase FS30 femtosecond laser. In the right eye, air bubbles were observed in anterior chamber after successful flap formation.

[The effect of steroid use on the pathogenesis of avascular necrosis of the femoral head: an animal model].

Objectives: We investigated the effect of corticosteroid treatment on the femoral head of healthy and serum disease-induced rats.

Methods: Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 250-300 g were divided into three groups equal in number. In group A, serum disease was induced by two intraperitoneal injections of sterile human serum (10 ml/kg), interspersed with a two-week interval.

Orthodontic approach for patients with severe periodontal disease.

Although comprehensive orthodontic treatment cannot preclude the possibility of periodontal disease developing later, it can be a useful part of the overall treatment plan for a patient who already has periodontal involvement. A careful clinical examination must determine the patient's dental health status, including any existing destruction or deficiencies of the teeth and their support, as well as the patient's ability to achieve and maintain good overall oral hygiene. Two major criteria should be considered in the treatment of these patients: (1) the patient should be seen frequently for periodontal maintenance and (2) minimal orthodontic forces should be applied.

Temporomandibular joint internal derangement: relationship between joint pain and MR grading of effusion and total protein concentration in the joint fluid.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine whether there is any association between the protein concentration in the synovial fluid and (i) the amount of articular hydrops, as graded in magnetic resonance (MR) images, and (ii) joint pain in temporomandibular joints (TMJs) with and without displacement of the disc.

Patients And Methods: This study involved 16 joints in 16 patients referred to our clinic with the complaint of pain and limited mouth opening. The control group consisted of 15 joints in 15 patients with unilaterally normal disc and condyle relationship and no pain while the opposite side had a non-painful joint with disc displacement without reduction (DDwoR).
