Introduction: It has been shown that there is a correlation between Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) and pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE); OSAS is a risk factor for PTE. We aimed to evaluate the frequency of OSAS in PTE patients, the correlation of OSAS with the severity of PTE, and its effect on 1-month mortality in PTE patients.

Methods: This single-center, prospective, comparative case control study contains 198 patients diagnosed with non-massive PTE in our hospital between the dates of 01/07/2018-04/01/2020 who were confirmed by imaging methods.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how well modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) and COPD assessment test (CAT) scores align in evaluating symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients.
  • It included 228 stable COPD patients, revealing a strong correlation between CAT and mMRC scores, but identified discrepancies in symptom assessment for 53 patients where scores did not match.
  • The findings suggest that while high scores may indicate severe symptoms, both mMRC and CAT should be used together for accurate classification to avoid misdiagnosing symptom levels.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is one of the common extra-articular manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and it is associated with high mortality rate. The usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) pattern of RA associated ILD (RA-ILD) shows some similarities to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, suggesting that antifibrotic therapies may have potential positive affects. In this review, we discuss the effectiveness of antifibrotic therapy for RA-ILD.

Due to current advances and growing experience in the management of coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the outcome of COVID-19 patients with severe/critical illness would be expected to be better in the second wave compared with the first wave. As our hospitalization criteria changed in the second wave, we aimed to investigate whether a favorable outcome occurred in hospitalized COVID-19 patients with only severe/critical illness. Among 642 laboratory-confirmed hospitalized COVID-19 patients in the first wave and 1121 in the second wave, those who met World Health Organization (WHO) definitions for severe or critical illness on admission or during follow-up were surveyed.
