During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, low dose radiation therapy (LDRT) was proposed as a potentially effective treatment method. To minimize potential toxicity, the initial treatment approach involved a few mGy of adapting radiation followed by a single 250 mGy whole lung challenging dose. However, antiviral drugs were also introduced as a promising treatment option, which were thought to have the potential to revolutionize the management of the crisis.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, School of Dentistry, Yasuj University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Shahid Jalil St., Yasuj, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, Iran.

Radiation protection in dental radiography can be achieved by adjusting the image field size, exposure, and filtration parameters, and using protective lead shields. The aim of this study is to assess the radiation dose delivered to the thyroid in a phantom irradiated by an orthopantomogram (OPG) system using Geant4 simulation toolkit. Recently, researchers have been trying to find an alternative material to the lead thyroid shield so that the OPG image has minimal metal artifacts.

A novel metal-free perylene-functionalized graphite adsorbent for efficient antibiotic removal from wastewater.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

December 2024

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences, Shahrekord University, P.O. Box 115, Shahrekord, Iran.

Adsorption remains a widely utilized and effective technique for removing chemical contaminants from polluted water, and novel adsorbents are currently in the process of being developed. The presence of antibiotics residues in aqueous effluents is a potential concern due to their potential adverse effects on living organisms. In this work, perylene tetracarboxylic acid-functionalized expanded graphite (PTCA-EG) was synthesized as a metal-free adsorbent and its potential for efficient treatment of contaminated wastewater with cefalexin (CLX) antibiotic was studied.

Article Synopsis
  • A meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the relationship between bisphenol A (BPA) exposure and the risk of gestational diabetes (GDM) among women, involving a comprehensive literature search and the inclusion of 12 relevant studies.
  • The analysis revealed no significant association between BPA levels—whether circulating or urinary—and the likelihood of developing GDM, with the odds ratio indicating a reduced risk instead.
  • The study concluded that while the findings suggest BPA exposure may lower GDM risk, further research is necessary to confirm these results and understand the implications better.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) is a clinically and biologically heterogeneous disease with a variable clinical course. The induction of a generalized state of immuno-suppression, leading to susceptibility to infections and the failure of anti-tumor immune responses, is a key feature of the clinical course of CLL. In addition to B-cell receptor (BCR) signaling in CLL, several receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) have been reported to be constitutively active in leukemic B cells, resulting in promoted survival and resistance to apoptosis induced by chemotherapy.
