Acetaminophen (APAP)-induced liver injury (AILI) is the most common cause of acute liver failure. Although the mechanisms that trigger AILI are well known, it is less understood how to halt AILI progression and facilitate liver recovery. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the pathophysiology of APAP hepatotoxicity in patients and to examine predictive/preventive markers.

Objective: This study was conducted to compare the velopharyngeal function among the beagle dogs which the levator veli palatini (LVP) muscles construction has been experimentally changed.
Methods: Four groups of LVP muscle reconstruction were made (normal LVP, cut LVP, end-to-end sutured LVP, and overlapped-sutured LVP at the midline). Levator veli palatini contraction was induced by electrical stimulation or a hypercapnia condition to analyze the strength of the velopharyngeal closure using balloon with a blood pressure meter, and the electromyogram in those operated beagle dogs.

Purpose: We compared the negative chronotropic and inotropic effects of landiolol and esmolol, two clinically available short-acting beta1-blockers with high beta1-selectivity, using whole isolated rabbit heart preparations.
Methods: Tachycardia was induced by continuous perfusion of 10(-7) M isoproterenol, and we used concentrations of landiolol or esmolol in ascending steps (1 . 10(-6), 3 .
