Mitochondrial respiration and metabolism play a pivotal role in facilitating the migratory and invasive capacities of cancer cells. In this study, we aimed to explore the potential influence of glycoprotein SPARC on mitochondrial respiration and its subsequent influence on the migration and invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. Lentivirus-mediated shRNA delivery was employed to deplete SPARC in HCC cell lines.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is corelated with tumor-associated material (TAM), coagulation system and adipocyte tissue, but the relationships between them have been inconsistent. Our study aimed to explore the cut-off intervals of variables that are non-linearly related to ccRCC pathological T stage for providing clues to understand these discrepancies, and to effectively preoperative risk stratification.
Methods: This retrospective analysis included 218 ccRCC patients with a clear pathological T stage between January 1st, 2014, and November 30th, 2021.

Background: Western medicine is beneficial for the recovery of neurological function in patients with depression, but some patients experience side effects such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, gastrointestinal symptoms, insomnia, and cardiac dysfunction. In recent years, integrative medicine has achieved positive results in the treatment of various diseases.
Aim: To study Chuanjin Qinggan decoction combined with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in patients with herpes zoster complicated by depression.

A series of novel 5-amido-2-carboxypyrazine derivatives were designed, synthesized and evaluated for the inhibitory activities against the T3SS of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. Preliminary results displayed that the compounds 2f, 2g, 2h and 2i showed potent inhibitory activities against T3SS. Compound 2h was identified as the most potent T3SS inhibitor and the SPI-1 effector secretion was strongly inhibited by 2h in a dose-dependent manner.

Petite Integration Factor 1 (PIF1) is a multifunctional helicase and DNA processing enzyme that plays an important role in the process of several cancer types. However, the relationship between clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and PIF1 remains unclear. This study aims to explore the role of PIF1 in ccRCC tumorigenesis and prognosis.

We conducted meta-analysis to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of ketamine on postoperative catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD). A systematic search was performed through PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library to identify all randomized controlled trials that used ketamine in postoperative CRBD. This study was carried out by using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses.

Objective: To explore the relationship between fut3 gene polymorphism and colonic polyps.
Methods: Two hundred patients with colonic polyps and 200 healthy people in our hospital in recent 3 years were taken as the research objects, as the disease group and the control group, respectively. The disease group was divided into cancerous colonic polyps group (n = 50) and non-cancerous colonic polyps group (n = 150).

Purpose: To compare the relative clinical efficacy of preoperative computed tomography (CT)-guided methylene-blue (MB) and coil localization for lung nodules (LNs).
Material And Methods: Between January 2013 and December 2018, a total of 89 patients with LNs underwent CT-guided MB or coil localization and subsequent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS)-guided wedge resection in our hospital. We compared the technical success of localization and wedge resection between two groups.

Background: Streptococcus pneumoniae causes many human diseases including bacterial meningitis. Previous study proposed that pneumolysin (PLY), a cytotoxin from pneumococcus, is related to the infection across blood-brain barrier (BBB). However, the mechanism of how PLY break through BBB remains elusive.

() infection in early pregnancy can result in miscarriage, dead fetus, and other abnormalities. The LILRB4 is a central inhibitory receptor in uterine dendritic cells (uDCs) that plays essential immune-regulatory roles at the maternal-fetal interface. In this study, -infected human primary uDCs and -infected LILRB4 pregnant mice were utilized.

During gestation, infection produces a series of complications including stillbirths, abortions, and congenital malformations. The inhibitory receptor, LILRB4, which is mainly expressed by professional antigen-presenting cells (especially macrophages and dendritic cells) may play an important immune-regulatory role at the maternal-fetal interface. To assess the role of LILRB4 during infection, LILRB4 and infected pregnant mouse models were established.

Background: As microRNA-34a (miR-34a) has been suggested to be associated with breast cancer (BC), this study was proposed to explore the underlying mechanism of miR-34a in suppressing BC progression.
Methods: A total of 123 pairs of tumor tissues and matched nontumor tissues were obtained from patients. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and in situ hybridization were used to detect the differences in miR-34a expression in tissues and cells.

Woad root has been used for the prevention of influenza for hundreds of years in many Asian countries. In this study, the antiviral modes of clemastanin B (CB), epigoitrin, phenylpropanoid portion (PEP), and the mixture of phenylpropanoids, alkaloids, and organic acid portions (PEP + ALK + OA) from wood root extract against influenza virus A FM1 were investigated. The results revealed that CB, epigoitrin, PEP, and PEP + ALK + OA exert their anti-influenza activity via inhibiting the virus multiplication, prophylaxis, and blocking the virus attachment.

In obese adipose tissue, tumor necrosis factor-α secreted from macrophages plays an important role in the adipocyte dysfunctions, including insulin resistance, lipolytic acceleration, and changes of adipokines, which promote the development of obesity-related complications. Phillyrin, an active ingredient found in many medicinal plants and certain functional foods, elicits anti-obesity and anti-inflammatory properties in vivo. The aim of the current study was to investigate the role of phillyrin in preventing tumor necrosis factor α-induced insulin resistance or lipolytic acceleration in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.

TNFα plays an important role in the adipocyte dysfunction, including lipolysis acceleration, insulin resistance and changes of adipokines. Recently, we showed that paeoniflorin attenuates adipocyte lipolysis and inhibits the phosphorylation of ERK, JNK, IKK stimulated by TNFα. However, the effects of paeoniflorin on adipocytes insulin resistance and changes of adipokines remain unknown.
