To assess the relationship between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and related parameters to the severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms. Clinical data from 38 COVID-19 patients who were diagnosed, treated and discharged from the Qishan Hospital in Yantai over the period from January to February 2020 were analysed. NLR and procalcitonin (PCT) were determined in the first and fourth weeks after their admission, along with the clinical characteristics and laboratory test results of these patients.

Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is a global epidemic disease caused by hepatitis B virus that can lead to hepatic failure, even liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The occurrence and development of CHB are closely related to the changes in the gut microbiota communities. To explore the relationship between the structure of gut microbiota and liver biochemical indicators, 14 CHB patients (the CHB group) and 11 healthy people (the CN group) were randomly enrolled in this study.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to investigate single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that could indicate a person's susceptibility to herb-induced liver injury (PM-DILI) in China, where this is a significant health issue.
  • Researchers analyzed genetic data from 382 participants, including patients with PM-DILI, other types of drug-induced liver injury, and healthy controls, to identify SNPs associated with PM-DILI.
  • Results revealed three SNPs, particularly rs1055348, had significantly higher frequencies in PM-DILI patients and may serve as a specific risk factor for this condition, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for both PM-DILI and other drug-induced liver injuries.

Environmental pollution caused by plastics has become a public health problem. However, the effect of microplastics on gut microbiota, inflammation development and their underlying mechanisms are not well characterized. In the present study, we assessed the effect of exposure to different amounts of polyethylene microplastics (6, 60, and 600 μg/day for 5 consecutive weeks) in a C57BL/6 mice model.

BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies around the world. It has been verified that the expression of SOX18 is correlated to poor clinical prognosis in patients with ovarian cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, or breast invasive ductal carcinoma. However, the expression pattern and biological function of SOX18 in HCC tissues remains unclear.

We observed the effect of Combivent combined with glucocorticoids in the treatment of patients with AECOPD to explore a better drug treatment for AECOPD. The clinical observation of two clinical curative effective was carried out. Firstly, 100 patients were equally divided into treatment group and control group, who were given basic treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) involves complex changes in liver disease progression and is heavily influenced by the body's immune response to the virus.
  • The study focused on identifying particular sub-networks in the hepatic transcriptomes of CHB patients across different phases to enhance understanding and predict clinical outcomes.
  • Researchers developed differential co-expression networks (DCNs) from patient data, revealing specific immune-related pathways that vary between the immune clearance phase and other states, highlighting critical genetic interactions.

This study was aimed to investigate antitumor activity of paederosidic acid (PA) in human non-small cell lung cancer cells and explore the related mechanisms. The anti-proliferative effects of PA on A549 cells were evaluated by MTT method and the IC values were calculated. Furthermore, the PA-induced apoptosis in A549 cells was determined by fluorescence microscope via staining with DAPI and by flow cytometer via staining with FITC conjugated Annexin V/PI.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of licochalcone B (LCB) in a mice model of carbon tetrachloride (CCl)-induced liver toxicity.

Materials And Methods: Hepatotoxicity was induced in mice by a single subcutaneous injection (SC) of CCl4. The LCB was administered orally once a day for seven days (PO) as pretreatment at three doses of 1, 5, and 25 mg/kg/day.

Identification of effective prognostic biomarkers and targets are of crucial importance to the management of breast cancer. CCNB1 (also known as CyclinB1) belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family and is significantly overexpressed in various cancer types. In this study, we demonstrated that CCNB1 had significant predictive power in distant metastasis free survival, disease free survival, recurrence free survival and overall survival of ER+ breast cancer patients.
